"Excuse me, but do you ever have a sense of loneliness here?" I inquired.

 

Mjölna was biting onto a box of cheese crackers - apparently, that was her dinner. "Not really," she responded. "I didn't have much friends back at Ponyville, mostly because I was busy with my own issues. I did have one before; she was a unicorn. I called her the 'Wrench Mare' because of her cutie mark."

 

"That's...interesting." Is she mentioning Quickfix? It seems like she recognizes her appearance accurately...

 

"I'm not a Ponyville native, just to clarify that."

 

"Of course. You told me you were of Far North descent." I reminded. "That unicorn you were talking about...I think I remember her, too."

 

"Oh? Is she in your group?"

 

I hesitated, then answered tersely, "No. She is not."

 

I then stood up. "Well, I need to be going. The group needs-" Immediately I collapsed under my own weight like a stack of blocks.

 

"Hey," Mjölna warned, placing me against a wooden crate, "don't push yourself. It's only been a day, and your hoof is still damaged and fractured. What you're doing would be stupid rather than heroic."

 

"It is not stupidity," I argued, my heart feeling like I had been stabbed. "It is painful enough to be aware that ponies outside are possibly dying, and you can do nothing to help them."

 

"It's just survivor's guilt. Don't do it. You might cause your hoof to internally bleed from all that usage," Mjölna diagnosed, almost if she was a doctor herself.

 

As she was eating another cracker, continuous gunshots were suddenly fired. The deafening sound was enough to surprise us; Mjölna nearly jumped, and climbed up to the second floor of the warehouse to look outside.

 

She cursed a few words before commanding me. "Turn off the lights! Now! Or pull out the electricity! I don't care!"

 

I complied, limping towards the power switch and turning it off. Mjölna ran for her gun, and opened a box crate. "Get in!" she whispered, beckoning with her hoof.

 

I followed into the crate with Mjölna. "What is it?" I asked. "Was that the military?"

 

Mjölna shook her head. "Far from that. It's bandits. They had been causing nothing but disorder since the outbreak."

 

"An organization?" I guessed.

 

"Not quite," she explained. "They exist everywhere, but most of them are in small groups who try to steal from other ponies by force. They appeared in my town after Equestria broke down. The bandits are barbaric. The ones here are usually three or four ponies."

 

"And in a few months it isn't going to be that way," I finished. The crate was stuffy and uneasy thoughts of suffocation came to my mind. I was reluctant to waste my oxygen supply. "They are going to become bigger and bigger."

 

"Let's hope that doesn't happen," she muttered.

"Maybe I'm miscalculating. If the portal can somehow manage to stay open for a little longer, I'll stay longer." Stephan said, looking back at Dash. "I promised you that I'd stay until you're better, and that's a promise I intend to keep."

Light then walked out of the restroom. "So, guys, we're we going first?" He asked.

"Maybe we should go down to Grand's house and see how she's doing. Y'know, say good morning to everypony."

"Sure thing, We just picked up some baking ingredients so we are all stocked" She said with a smile, pulling out the ingredients for pancakes and pouring them into a bowl.

 

Caramel giggled as Starburst kissed her. "Yeah, we should get up before suspicions start arising. Lets go see Missy while breakfast is being made"

"Don't worry, it'll just give me an incentive to train harder, tell you what, once you get back I challenge you to a race around Ponyville." Dash said, playfully pushing him and almost falling over in the process.

 

"Good idea." Starburst said, literally rolling out of bed and landing on the floor. "Okay, let's go." Starburst said, before darting out the door and into the cold air.

"Sure thing, We just picked up some baking ingredients so we are all stocked" She said with a smile, pulling out the ingredients for pancakes and pouring them into a bowl.

 

Caramel giggled as Starburst kissed her. "Yeah, we should get up before suspicions start arising. Lets go see Missy while breakfast is being made"

Meanwhile, Zeta grabbed some eggs and some bread to fry, scrambling them in a bowl until they were yellow and dipped the bread in it. He turned on the stove and used a frying pan with butter, then stuck some of the bread on to cook. (( btw this is like, French toast in the US or something. x3 ))

 

"Alright, after a bit they should be done!"

Stephan helped Dash up and smiled. 

"You're on, Dash." He said, opening up the door. Stephan, Light, and Dash walked out of the house and trotted over to Grand's place.

"Stephan... I don't feel very good..." Light muttered. "Does it have something to do with the whiskey I consumed last night?"

"Why yes, Light." Stephan said. "You're now experiencing a hangover."

"Oh goodness..." Eventually, the three arrived at Grand's place and Stephan knocked on the door.

Grand put the pancakes on a plate before answering the door to see the trio. "Oh, good morning everyone, its lovely to see you out of the hospital Ms. Dash" She said, letting the three in. "We just finished breakfast"

 

Caramel chased after Starburst, following him to the hospital. once they gt there she laughed. "I wouldve beat you if you told me it was going to be a race"

"It's nice to see you too....I think." Dash said, then whispering into Stephan's ear. "I don't really know anypony here, won't it be awkward?"

 

"I doubt that." Starburst said, then walking over to the receptionist. "I'm here to see my mum, come, Missy Starlight."

"Alright, you'll probably know where to go now, I'd imagine." The receptionist said, getting a small smile from Starburst.

He found the room and walked inside.

"Good you're here. There's some good news." Fire said.

"Good news?" Starburst asked. "What kind?"

"She's recovered, the doctor that came in earlier said that she could wake up within the next hour or so." Fire replied.

Zeta finished the French toast and set a tall stack in the middle of the table, then greeted the 3 next to Grand. "Heya guys, come on in here! We made plenty for everypony to have seconds, so take as much as you like. Grand did most of it though, she's a good cook!"

Caramel smiled happily and hugged Starburst. "She's gonna be okay! I knew she would" She said happily

 

Grand smiled a bit at Zeta before getting plates ready. "Do you like pancakes and French toast, Ms. dash?" She asked, putting the food on plates and handing them out

"Um, just call me Rainbow, or Dash, one of the two. I'm not that old yet." Dash joked. "Either one of them is fine with me."

 

"The doctor said that when she wakes up, she might have some form of brain damage. And we should have as few ponies in here as possible." Fire said.

"Alright, but Caramel can stay right?" Starburst asked, Fire smiled and nodded.

Stephan leaned into Dash's ear.

"Don't worry about it. Just talk to them. They're great ponies." Stephan said, walking in and getting a plate for himself and Dash. Light did the same.

"Thank you two for making this marvelous breakfast." Light said, walking over to the table.

"So, how have you guys been?" Stephan asked Zeta and Grand.

Stephan leaned into Dash's ear.

"Don't worry about it. Just talk to them. They're great ponies." Stephan said, walking in and getting a plate for himself and Dash. Light did the same.

"Thank you two for making this marvelous breakfast." Light said, walking over to the table.

"So, how have you guys been?" Stephan asked Zeta and Grand.

Zeta looked at Stephan and smiled. "Never better man, never better. Now come on, go ahead and enjoy this nice breakfast. I want you to try it out since both of us made it~" Then he whispered. "It's been so long since I've made French toast... Man, like... 11 years or something?"

Dash sat down next to Stephan, trying to aviod eye contact with anypony.

 

"Isn't that great news Caramel?" Starburst said.

Fire laughed a little. "So, have you two made any plans or arrangements yet?" He asked.

"No, we haven't gotten that far yet, or I haven't anyway." Starburst turned to Caramel. "You haven't been planning behind my back have you?" He asked jokingly.

Grand placed the plate in front of Rainbow. "Here you are ms- Uh, Rainbow" She said with a slight smile before sitting down herself. "I suppose I should introduce myself if I havent already" She said with a warm smile. "I'm Grand Finale, but just call me Grand, everyone else does"

 

Caramel giggled. "No, no planning. Are you sure its okay for me to stay? I dont mind waiting until Missy's a little more comfortable"

"Just in case she has some form of memory loss, you should probably wait outside, Iif you don't mind, that is." Starburst said. "And you should go and get Glint, she'll want to see her mother."

Just at that moment, groaning sounds came from Missy, her eyes fluttered under closed eyelids, which then began to open, she looked around, and opened them slightly wider.

"Fi......Fire?" Missy asked, extending a hoof, he got out of his chair and went to her side.

"Yes, it's me, I'm so glad you're alright." Fire said.

 

"Well, I...." Dash recognised the name, it was the mare that Stephan was after before. "It's nice to meet you, I....uh....really like your.....mane?"

"Heh. Eleven years, eh? Well maybe your skills have remained over the years." Stephan and Light both took a bite out of there French toast and both of their eyes widened. "Whoa. It tastes just like how I had it back on Earth!" Stephan continued to eat. "Thanks, Zeta."

Caramel quietly slipped out of the door and went over to where Moon was staying. "Hi Moon, do you mind if I take Glint for the day?" She asked with a smile

 

Grand laughed. "Well youre one of the first to say that. Thank you" She said, taking a bite. "I hope you dont take this as rude, but how is your recovery coming along? I notice you have some issues with mobility, was it something from the medical procedure?" She said, going back to her nurse instincts without really realizing it

"Heh. Eleven years, eh? Well maybe your skills have remained over the years." Stephan and Light both took a bite out of there French toast and both of their eyes widened. "Whoa. It tastes just like how I had it back on Earth!" Stephan continued to eat. "Thanks, Zeta."

Zeta blushed and swung from side to side. "Well.. Your welcome Stephan, I appreciate your words. Maybe after a bit, me and Grand might eat a bit after you two finish so then i'll get to taste my own food~" Afterwards he laughed to himself quietly and went over to Grand, who was talking to Dash. "So how's it going meeting up with the famous Rainbow Dash? Pretty cool, huh?"

"Well, they said that Azrael's weapon almost severed the spinal cord from the chest down, so they said I'm lucky just being able to feel my legs." Dash said, trying to pick up the food with her hooves, it wasn't working.

 

"Mum?" Starburst asked, sitting down next to her.

"Starburst, hey, how are you?" Missy asked sleepily. Starburst was near to tears.

"I have some exciting news for you, but I have to wait for a certain marefriend of mine to get here." Starburst said.

"Caramel, I like her, you two should get married." Missy lay her head back. "I mean, some day."

Caramel picked up Glint and nuzzled her a bit. "Ready to see mum?" She said warmly before walking out of the room and back to the hospital

 

Grand nodded. "Yes, thats quite lucky, isnt it? The spinal cord is a huge part of your nervous system, I suppose we should be thankful for that. Do you need some help with the pancakes?" She asked happily

"No, I'm capable of eating food, just not politely." She picked a pancake up with her mouth. "This is the only way I can physically hold this thing."

 

Starburst held onto Missy's hoof.

"I'm just glad you're awake." Starburst said.

"What?" She looked around her. "Never mind, there are more important things happening." She winced as she felt the pain in her side.

Grand smiled. "Theres no need for manners, this house is too chaotic to take time for trivial things like that" She said with a smile, taking another bite.

 

Caramel took a deep breath and stuck her head through the door. "Um, hi Missy, I brought someone who really wanted to see you" She said, gently giving her Glint

"Heh. THAT'S the understatement of the freaking century." Stephan said, taking a bite out of his breakfast.
"Now, Grand, you do know that Stephan and I were going back to Earth for Hearth's Warming, right?" Light asked Grand. "I mean, I thought you'd want to know, since you didn't like ponies leaving without letting you know."

She propped herself up a bit with effort and tickled Glint.

"I love her so much." She looked to Starburst. "What? You're looking at me like you're going to explode from excitement."

"Well, now that Caramel is here, I want to tell you something." Starburst said. "Me and her are.....engaged." Missy was a little shocked to begin with, but it cleared all signs of tiredness from her.

"That's great, when are you gonna get married?" Missy asked.

"We haven't planned anything out yet. But it'll hopefully be sometime soon." Starburst said, holding Caramel's hoof.

 

"I'm kind of disappointed, since we only started "dating" again yesterday." Dash said, finishing off the last of a pancake rather messily. "Sorry."
