"You bet I'm ready to play." Luna said. "Chess......I mean chess, you move first." Luna said.

 

"You mean she's gone?" Starburst asked.
"We're not together anymore Starburst." Fire said.

"Why? What could any of us possibly have done for this to happen?" Starburst asked, more furious than anything.

"Moon is pregnant." Fire said, getting a quizzical look of 'and?' from Starburst. "And the child is mine." Starburst began to glare at him, he opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out.

Stephan took the paper and ink and sat at the table. He then began writing his letter to Zeta. Once he finished, he placed the letter in an envelope and walked over to the two mares.

"Would one of you mind sending this off to Canterlot Prison?" Stephan asked Grand and Moon.

Zeta just smiled and remembered something, so he turned the board around to use the white pieces and moved first. "Alright, your turn Luna~!"

 

Moon heard Stephan finished and shook her head. "Sorry Stephan.. I, kinda dislike the prison.. I was once in there from jealousy, but Luna convinced Celestia to take me out. It was a bad place, so... Let Grand do it."

Luna moved one of her pawns forward, she was starting to feel warm again, so she again brought up the fan and fanned it at herself, it didn't help much.

"Come on Luna, you've been controlling yourself for 1000 years, why stop now?" Luna thought. "Well, none of the stallions in my time really stuck out to me."

The chess game progressed slowly, as pieces were being taken and taken. Zeta was having fun concentrating, but was a little odd about Luna. I would think she's better then this... Hm..

 

And after a few more plays, he was able to move his pieces to check Luna, wondering what she was gonna do.

Luna was panicked by the sudden turn of the tide, she was great at chess, she always beat her sister.

"What is this?! We have planned battles more complex than this!" Luna yelled, moving the king away from check, she could feel a sort of pressure building within her.

Zeta shrugged and giggled, moving his force in. Only a rook and two pawns guarded the king, so he began sending men to sabotage it. Eventually, Luna was in a dire check as the rook and pawn were taken out with ease. What he was using was the bishop, both knights, and his queen. "Game is almost over Luna..~" He gave the another smile, this one accidently looked a little seductive.

"We are not pleased by this, we are going to lose, this is not a good situation we are in." Luna said, moving her king again to get out of check, actually becoming rather stressed out by the game, she didn't notice Zeta's expression, she kept her eyes glued to her king.

Zeta just laughed. "Good, you chose the right path..~" He moved his knight into place. "Checkmate." He then said and pointed out the different areas of why. Every way the king could go, he would be caught, so the game was over. "That was an exciting game Luna~" Sticking out a hoof to her.

"Eh, whatever, I'll just send it off myself." Stephan opened up the door and rolled his chair outside. He took out the letter and threw it into the breeze, sending it off to Canterlot Castle, hoping it would get through. "I hope Zeta's doing alright." He said, to himself, as he wheeled back inside and rolled up to Fire.

Something about the word 'checkmate' made something click inside Luna's mind, she just stared at Zeta's hoof for a minute, then instead of shaking it like she probably should have. She launched herself at Zeta, kissing him right on the lips.

 

"Me too." Fire said, just looking at his hooves.

"I don't even have words right now, Dad, just, I just don't." Starburst said.

Zeta was tackled onto the ground by Luna, feeling the kiss and immediately blushed. When he recovered from it, he looked to her surprised. "Uh, um... L-Luna..? Are you, alright Princess..? Why, did you kiss me all of a sudden?" He became unsure why she even did that in the first place.

"We are terribly sorry, we just find it difficult to control ourselves when... when we feel the need.....the need to......" Luna began kissing him again, it was the first relief of tension she'd had in about 600 years. She wanted to take advantage of it while it was still there.

Stephan lowered his head and rolled up to Fire.

"Sorry about what happened, pal." Stephan said to him in sincerity. "But, now that she's gone, that means you're a godfather, so... what now?" He asked him.

 

Within a few moments, there was a small knock on the door of Canterlot Castle.

Zeta just froze and let Luna kiss him. Eventually he relaxed and just submitted to his Princess, and once caught himself kissing her as well. "Princess, but.. Mm-mm..... If, they find out, Celestia, will..." But he went silent, since it was hard to talk when being kissed.

Luna continued kissing him.

"Oh who cares about Celestia? She must have felt this way over her time. Only I can do something about it this time." Luna said, still pinning him down and kissing him, then suddenly a courier walked in, Luna turned around slowly.

"Um, letter for Zeta, your highness." The courier gave the letter to her after bowing, then just standing there.

"You may leave." Luna said. Luna froze, completely, almost as if she were a stone statue.

 

"I will not waver from my morals, I'm better than that, If Missy wants to leave me, then that's her choice." Fire said. "Now, we move on. As we must."

You could tell Zeta was a bit traumatized by this surprise attack, but he shooed the courier away and he left. "Um, uh... I guess, read the letter..?" He said embarresed, and a bit weirded out now. 

 

Meanwhile, Moon had gone back upstairs to go to bed. She wasn't feeling too well anymore, from everything that's been happening.

Luna hurriedly dusted herself off and stepped away from Zeta, she read out the letter.

 

 

 

Dearest Zeta, I won't take up too much of your time, but it has recently dawned on me the status of our relationship and I must apologize. I have been unfair, and you deserve better. I often lead you on but please believe me when I say I love you with all my heart. I hope you find a mare deserving of you, as I am not her. I'm sorry Grand Finale

 

 

"So, this Grand Finale, the one you spoke of, she does not return your affections?" Luna asked. "We are surprised, we never expected that you would be rejected by anypony.

Here's what the letter said:

"My dear companion, Zeta

I'm terribly sorry for everything that's happened. I know that sometimes I can come off as a jerk, but I just hope you know that I see you as a good friend. We're speed and strength, one of the ultimate combos of teams.

Please get out soon. Believe it or not, I wish you were back here to celebrate Hearth's Warming.

Your pal, Stephan."

"I couldn't have said it better myself, Fire." Stephan said, turning towards the door. "Perhaps I should get going..."

Grand sighed, withdrawing from the conversation. She knew this feeling and she wouldn't let herself shut everyone out again. She cradled Glint and looked up. "Fire, we have to find her. The way she spoke, the way she looked it was just... It wasn't her" she said, forcing herself to stay present

"Alright Stephan, see you later buddy." Fire said, looking out one of the windows. "It was her choice to leave, and I'm not compromising my morals for anypony."

 

The courier knocked again.

"What?!" Luna yelled.

"Another letter." He said, quickly giving it to her and leaving, she read it out again.

"My my, you're the popular one today aren't you?" Luna said.

"Fire... I really think we should help her, something isn't right" she said, standing up. She won't talk to me, but maybe she'll talk to you. Maybe..."

 

Caramel walked over to starburst and put her hoof on his shoulder. "Maybe you should talk to her Starburst, she's gotta listen to her son"

"I certainly am not going to see her, I'm not planning on speaking to her at all after this." Fire said. "She wants me to choose between her and my own child, children always come first." Fire walked away to check on Moon.

 

"We should go find her, in case she does something stupid." Starburst said, pulling Grand up from the chair. "We'll bring her back, though maybe my dad and her won't be together anymore, it might be for the best."

Stephan stopped in his tracks and screeched his chair to a halt.

"I guess I'll come, too, Starburst." Stephan said to him and Grand. "Perhaps Missy doesn't want to talk to anypony now, but we should go find her, just to make sure she hasn't done anything she might regret." Stephan thought back to the conversation him and Missy had earlier. She promised him that she wouldn't take her own life. He hoped she hadn't broken that promise.

"That anypony is someone who is better off independent then anything.." He said, getting up to read the letter. Then on Luna's desk, there was a paper and ink from where she wrote the letter before and sat down at it. He began to write some stuff in.

 

Dearest Grand,

Love is not determined by if you deserve somepony or not, it is determined by if both ponies can overcome all the obstacles that they come by.

That is love.

Zeta wrote the last part in red, then rolled it up and let Luna send it away. "Hmn... It's hard to let go, you know what I mean..?"
