Audition Closed! Thank you to everyone who participated, it was very tough choosing just one applicant with so many wonderful submissions!

Announcer: Trevor Palczynski

An animatic is being created (80% complete) to aid the audition process, watch it here;

http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/e3285b4ee80647d51a40e059eba946b0

As the topic title suggests, I am going to be animating a new fan movie entitled "Caring for your new pony" and am in need of a male voice actor to play the part of an announcer and a female to play Applejack.

Caring for your new pony is meant to be a spoof informative piece about how to properly take care of a pony; feeding habits, bathing schedules etc.

Download the script here

https://www.dropbox.com/s/7csa603j7lsgt5u/Caring%20for%20your%20new%20pony.rtf

As you will see, the piece is tongue-in-cheek and pokes fun at My Little Pony fanatics. Don't worry, I'm a huge MLP fan and this is in no way meant to be malicious, it's just my own dark way of injecting humor into the brony community.

(I really wish the spellchecker would stop underlining brony with a red squiggly line)

I am planning on playing the guy myself and I have Apple Bloom cast already so please do not bother auditioning for them.

The Announcer:

Your role is to explain to a lucky fan the best way to properly care for their new pony. You must speak clearly and cheerfully, I had pictured him having a deep voice but please try a variety and I will pick the most suitable candidate.

If you can make your lines sound as though they are coming from a small tape recorder then please do, it saves me the trouble of learning how to do it myself.

Applejack:

What can I say? You all know what this gal sounds like. As for direction, you're stuck in the same predicament as Apple Bloom and have resigned yourself to the situation.

Submitting:

Please read the script for lines, announcers you don't have to record all lines for the audition, just pick whichever you like.

Please send all auditions to dilarus(at) hotmail.co.uk with the subject "audition" in .wav or .mp3 format.

Thank you everypony and good luck! <3

Thought I'd add some of my sketches to show you the style I'll be using, enjoy!
Apologies for the quality, my scanner isn't compatible with my new Windows 8 laptop, grr.

Like I said, I will take a variety of voices, it doesn't have to be deep, that's just how I pictured him.

If you can wow me with another style of voice I'll take that instead.

What matters is being able to speak clearly in a matter-of-fact manner just like any TV or radio announcer.

I can speak clearly so I will post again with my sample of the line and see what you think about it though it might take me a while since i am in school at the moment

I can speak clearly and put an enthusiastic tone into it. I'm not sure about the small tape recorder, though. I'll try, though.

I might just make it deep. My voice is deep naturally, so it isn't that big of an issue.

Use EQ and take out the high and low ends. That will make it sound like an old radio. I think I might enter this. I love doing Edison phonograph impressions.

No you don't need to read the whole script, just pick a line or two that you like.

I look forward to hearing everyone's submissions :)

I think I'll try out for this as well.

I've always wanted to try voice acting and this sounds like a good opportunity to get into it.

Pardon my lack of experience. :P

I've got my audition ready and stuff. I can also do other voices for the announcer if you really want. You should find my audition in this post.

Feedback is appreciated!

Note: Sorry if I messed up a few of the lines, I was quite tired. But if I do get the part, I won't mess em up. In fact, I usually try to memorize lines when I voice act, so I'll have them memorized if I do get the part.

Times like this make me wish I had a higher quality mic...

Oh well. I've been the announcer for quite a few of my friends' projects, and I'm apparently pretty good at it. I've been told I've got the kind of "1950's instructional video" narration voice. I myself don't see it, but I'm not gonna complain.

I'll look for a better mic I may have lying around, and record some lines if I find one. If I don't... well, the recordings won't be AS good, but they'll still work plenty well. Be expecting an audition from me shortly.  ;)

Indeed.

Turns out I'll be submitting my audition much later than I intended. Even with a proper set of headphones, the Blue Yeti microphone, and a pop filter, my voice still sounds nothing much like what I expect it to sound like when playing back the recording. I've tried a variation on what you envision the voice sounding like, but the playback always comes out sounding incredibly awkward. Am I not using the correct program for recording? I'm using GarageBand on my computer.

I'm gonna have to send you an audition track anyways, and you'll know what I mean.

Hey there,

I'm not very experienced myself but with my blue yeti I use audacity to record lines. It's free and relatively easy to use :D

Hey everyone,

people seem to have trouble grasping the tone I'm going for so here's an example of a 50s instructional video.

The voiceover we're going for starts at around 46sec in

I will be contacting all applicants with my thoughts regarding their submission and the ones I pick will be announced in this thread so long as I find suitable candidates.

Thanks a lot. But still, I'm having a hard time trying to get used to hearing my own voice in playback. It just sounds like I can never capture the proper voice that I desire (in general, and not just for this project).

I actually downloaded Audacity a short while after reading your message, so I'll see how that turns out.
