Season 3 Mistakes

Now don't get me wrong.  I like season 3 overall, I even like MMC.  But there were some choices that were made that could have gone better.

 

Seriously, did we really need two episodes with Babs Seed?  Two Spike themed episodes?  A 'Discord is reformed' episode, which I call the biggest mishandling of the season?

 

If the endrun of this season was just to turn Twilight into an alicorn, I would have doubled down and just devoted the entire season to expand on it.  The closest we get to this theme is the beginning of Too Many Pinkie Pies and Magic Duel.

 

That's just my two bits.

But in all seriousness, i thought the episodes were alright. But yeah, the "reforming Discord" episode wasn't really it for me, it just didn't feel right. Bab's seed was alright, i purely loved the song, and Bab's Seed himself did have the perfect look for a little bully. All in all, couldn't say i hated/disliked any episodes, just didn't prefer them as much to others.

For me it was One Bad Apple for a poorly executed moral and Spike at your service for poor characterization.

 

I'm alright with Discord's " reformation" he isn't exactly good but rather neutral so he can still be as devious as usual.

The lack of a Rarity episode - I don't think I even need to elaborate on this

 

Bringing back Trixie - I still don't get why the fandom gets such a ginormous boner over this character. I still think Magic Duel was an incredibly overrated episode(not a bad one mind you, but nowhere near the best of Season 3), and Trixie's redemption was both unnecessary and pretty half-assed

You know Babs is female right? Hence the name Babs. I can see someone mistaking her for a boy,though,(some do it with Rainbow Dash) due to her accent and her look.

I do agree that the episodes in season 3 were lacking some good plot but I remember reading somewhere that the writers did it for a reason. 

 

One good thing to look at it, is that it opened a whole new beginning now that Twilight is an alicorn. Plus season 4 is already confirmed to have 20+ episodes, so there will be more new plot possibilities.

I'm pretty positive that bringing back Trixie was just one of the various fanservices the writers were doing, for the sake of some of the brony fans. Giving them want they want ya know? Kind of like how in that Discord reformation episode, when Fluttershy tried to use the stare on Discord. Are you kidding me?  What was she thinking? What were the writers thinking!?

 

But yeah I agree on the lack of a Rarity episode. She's definitely overdue for one. Hopefully they'll make it up to her in season 4.

 

And Magical Mystery Cure....oh the plot failures! Much of that episode didn't even really much sense!

 

One big example was how Pinkie Pie had Applejack's cutie mark and was basically living out her life, and none of the Apple Family even noticed anything wrong with her. They didn't notice crap.

 

That's just one of them. That's definitely one that confuses me the most.

I think season three was pretty good. I didn't particuarly like Babs Seed ones, but I didn't mind them either. Spike's a pretty cool dragon, I liked those episodes. DISCORD IS REFORMED IS NOT A BAD EPISODE. DISCORD IS AWESOME . So, in conclusion, I actually really liked season 3.

Keep Calm and Flutter On was an ok episode, I LOVE DISCORD HE'S AWESOME!! But unfortunately I don't like the way they handled his reformation, it was too simple, I thought he would put up more of a fight.

 

Of the two Spike episodes I liked Just For Sidekicks better, because of the pets, but Spike at Your Service just ruined little Spikey Wikey for me during that half hour. I love Spike's character and everything, but here he was just obcessive and out of nowhere a clumsy fool. He's done chores for Twilight before and has baked cookies, SO HOW COULDN'T HE DO SIMPLE STUFF FOR AJ?!

 

The Babs Seed episode was actually really good but I do agree with some of you that the moral wasn't handled too well And how is Babs Applebloom's favorite cousin a couple episodes later?  

 

Oh well, that's all I can say for now, Magical Mystery Cure was good but I do feel they should have built up more to Twi's transformation like they built up to the Grand Galloping Gala in Season 1

Actually, the Trixie thing has nothing to do with fan-service, the idea for her to return had been on the "to-do" list since season 1, and it just took them this long to get around to making the episode. I think the script was even written up already(Zecora's role is a tell-tale sign of it's age, she was originally intended to become a second mentor figure to Twilight at her conception)

 

I liked what we got, but I think the it's sometimes rushed feel was do to suddenly chopping the season length in half, it must cause a massive panic when the higher ups go "yeah, you're gonna have to squeeze all your idea for this season into half the normal you're used to, and you don't get a two-finale for the big moment either". It's kinda frustrating because S3 has some of my favorite episodes and could of easily have been the best so far if it was given a full 26 episodes.
