private When Sunset Smiles (Private RP)

((This is a private RP for myself and .))

Sunset sat at the back of the train, staring out the window. She wasn't sure if she wanted to be here, but it had to be better that that wretched orphanage on PBI. Since turning 18, she was supposedly too old to stay at PBIO, but a caretaker had pulled some strings and she was able to stay until they found someplace else for her to stay. Just a few days ago, they had found that Ponyville Orphanage let ponies stay until they were 19, if they didn't get adopted before then, which they usually did. So, she was getting transferred.
The train slowed to a stop and Sunset grabbed her worn-out saddlebag and exited. On the platform, she looked around. Ponyville seemed peaceful, at least. Maybe there would be less bullies here? She could only hope.
Stepping off the platform and hoping she wouldn't get noticed until she was at the orphanage, she trotted away in what she hoped was the right direction.

Fender, while still quite new to Ponyville, was slowly, but surely learning where everything and everypony was. When he heard the train station erupt with the noise of passengers exiting the vehicle, he decided to investigate. "It's been awhile since there have been newcomers..." He mumbled lazily, yet curiously to himself. He was quick to round a corner and accidentally bump into an orange mare. He was paying so little attention that when he bumped into the mare, he knocked both her and him on the ground. He groaned to himself, "Ah..." then noticing the orange mare, quickly sprang into apologizing, "Oh! Oh, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" He offered a hoof to help her up.

Sunset had been walking for only a few minutes when a stallion whipped around a corner and bumped into her, knocking the both of them down. She let out a squeak and tried to scramble to her hooves to get away. He suddenly started apologizing and held out his hoof in an offer to help her up. Being to timid, to take the hoof, she hid behind her mane.
"I-i-it's okay, i-it's not your fault... I-I wasn't paying attention... S-sorry..."

she hid behind her mane. "I-i-it's okay, i-it's not your fault... I-I wasn't paying attention... S-sorry..."

He smiled in a way that was both apologetic, and freindly. "No, no. It was my fault. You probably were on your way somewhere, I was trotting around aimlessly, like a fool." He chuckled lightly.

He bent down and helped her up, without her having any say. He wouldn't lie to himself, he noticed all of her scars, a seemingly brutal past behind her. He wouldn't ask, not right now, but he was intrigued...and most of all, she seemed to need a freind.

He smiled politely and reassuringly. She seemed like she always thought somepony might just hit her. He decided to attempt to compliment her, and see how she responded. "I'm Fender! And what might a cute mare such as yourself have for a name?" While he was, on one hoof, trying to see how she would respond, he also meant what he said. Despite the scars, which seemed to have become a part of her ponysona, she was actually quite a cute mare, in Fender's opinion.

@,
Sunset squeaked again as he helped her up,, taking her by surprise. Once on all four hooves, she backed up a few steps. Not enough to seem rude, but enough so that the scars might be a little more difficult to see. Though she knew he had probably seen the scars already, it was a force of habit by now anyway.
At his comment, the small Pegasus blushed, hid her face even more behind her mane, and averted her eyes.
C-cute?

"S-Sunset Sky..." she mumbled, her eyes still staring at the ground.

He caught the blush, "Looks like the little compliment worked." He couldn't help but continue giving his polite smile.

He could barely hear her give her name. Barely, but he did hear it. "Sunset Sky? That's a nice name." He grinned, "Would you like me to walk you where you were going?" He nodded his head in some random direction, as if to say 'this way.' "I've not got much to do...plus, I'd like to get to know you." He smiled once more.

Sunset, cheeks still pink, mumbled a "Th-thank you..." that sounded rather sad. She didn't know if that was actual name, it was just the moniker a worker at the old orphanage had given her.

When Fender offered to escort her and said he'd like to get to know her, the mare's blush intensified.

No! Once he finds out I'm an orphan... I don't know... but I doubt it'll be good... Even if he doesn't hate or bully me, he'll probably pity me... I don't want pity...
"N-n-no, th-that's okay," she started, and realized she might seem annoyed or rude. "I-I mean, y-you don't want to go where I'm going... i-it's... n-not good... and a-also... embarrassing..." She hung her head a bit, still timidly hiding behind her mane.

He curiously raised an eyebrow. "Not good? I can't understand whatever it is she means..." He shrugged confidently, and grinned once more. "Oh, don't be silly. There's no places in Ponyville that are bad, and I can't imagine there's some location that could be embarrassing. This place is great! I'm quite new, myself." He positioned himself so that he stood next to the mare, not too close, but close enough to where they could still talk. "I'm not usually one for insisting on doing stuff, but c'mon now, I literally have nothing to do today." He chuckled. Suddenly, another thought came to him. "Wait? You're not nervous, or scared or something, are you? I mean, I'll gladly help with that too, if that's the case." He continued grinning.

"N-nervous... I guess..." Sunset mumbled.

Nervous, scared, terrified... but not of the orphanage, or at least not just the orphanage...
"I-I-I'm going to... Th-the orphanage here..." the small mare whispered, hanging her head completely. She was ashamed and embarrassed to have to admit that she was headed to live at the orphanage at eighteen years old.

"Orphanage?" She looked like an adult to him. "There's nothing to be ashamed of..." He smiled reassuringly. "...y'know...if you wanted...you could leave the orphanage and live in my house. I mean, I know we just met and all, but honestly, you look like you could use a change of scenery." His face became flat. "Such a nice pony doesn't belong in some over-crowded dorm with no breathing room..." He smiled once more, "I've got an offer you can't refuse!" He announced happily. "You can live with me in a nice, clean house. You can have nice, full meals...a comfy bed, and I can take care of you." He beamed.

He thought for a moment, and facehoofed. "I'm sorry," he sighed, "a bit over-inviting, huh?" He chuckled lightly, "I don't mean to be that way, just pretty much spent time alone since I moved here...but hey, you seem nice, so how does becoming friends sound?" He smiled again, "In any case, I'd like to offer you my home, to live in."

Sunset had to admit, it did sound nice, and it was hard to refuse.

It'd be perfect ...And more than I deserve...
"Th-that's okay... I-I wouldn't want to impose... I-I'd just be a bother to you... A-and besides... Anything's better than the place I came from..." She mumbled, staring down at her scarred hooves.

Fender found himself rather curious at her response. "A bother? I've not known anypony for years...I mean...really known anypony. I haven't managed to make any friends recently either, and I don't have any family left." He sat down next to her now, "When I say I'd like to get to know you, I mean it. It is your choice with what you would like to do, but believe me, it'd be doing me a favor if you moved in." He tilted his head, and smiled reassuringly once more.

Sunset timidly looked at him from behind her mane, not sure what to say. Why did he care so much? She would probably just annoy him in the end.
"B-but why...? Wh-why do you w-want to get to kn-know me? I-I'm not interesting, o-or famous... o-or even special, f-for that matter... I-I'm nopony..."

He was slightly disheartened by the mare's somber nature. Slightly.

He was careful in the way he spoke his next sentence. "The scars speak for themselves..." He looked down, "...they give you character, in a way, but I'm sure the story behind them isn't a good one." He sighed, and smiled weakly, "You are interesting. You are special. You definitely are somepony. Somepony who has a past, and if she makes the right decisions, somepony who has a brilliant future." He now faced his body toward her again, "I'm no licensed psychiatrist or anything, but I'm quite good at knowing ponies based off of things about them...still, you look troubled, and I don't want such a nice pony looking as troubled as she does." His smile grew broader, and more confident, "And who knows? Maybe in the end, it's just that I'm a sucker for such a pretty mare." He chuckled.

@,

Sunset cringed and almost inaudibly whimpered when he started talking about her scars; nopony had ever addressed them before, and she didn't want to talk about them anyway, but she listened, ears flattened and face hidden, her only small hope being he wouldn't bully her over this.

She blushed again as he finished talking and sat, mulling over what he had told her.
"Wh... what makes you think a-all those things about me? N-nopony's ever thought about me that way before... N-nopony's ever h-had reason to..."

He smiled weakly, "Odd one out, huh? Me too." He gave her a sideways glance, and a grin. "I think that's part of what makes us special." He turned his head to her, once again. "Plus, I know you have to have an interesting life story. That's unique to everypony. That's what makes us special as well. There's plenty of reasons to think about you that way." He chuckled, and tilted his head.

@, Sunset's ears completely flattened as she stared at the ground.
"I-I don't see h-how anytheng th-th-that's ev-ever h-happened to me m-makes me s-special," she whispered, voice broken and trembling. She didn't understand how having had ponies hate her before she could speak in full sentences made her even remotely special. Thinking on this brought back some unwanted memories, and she quivered slightly, trying to force them away.

He smiled apologetically, "Good or bad...your past is what separates you from...say...me. Or anypony else, for that matter. It's all a matter of what you've been through, but it's why everypony is special in their own ways." By now she seemed to have gotten lower to the ground again, and was hiding once more. He got on eye level with her, "Still, you shouldn't feel inferior. You've definitely got some reasons to stand tall; You've obviously been through something not-so-great, so you should be able to take that and rise above whatever happened then...and if you don't want me to know, I won't pry. Otherwise, you're quite beautiful...and mysterious in a way that's keeping me interested..." He chuckled, "...then again, perhaps I'm just weird. Still...will you have lunch with me?" The last question was completely unrelated to really...anything...but it just popped out. He blushed a bit, nothing too red.

Sunset timidly peeked out at him from behind her mane, listening to him, not entirely believing what he was saying, about her being special. Still, she kept quiet and listened to him speak. When he asked her to lunch, she blushed at about the same time he did, though she didn't really notice his own pink cheeks.
"L-lunch?" she asked weakly, forcing her trembling voice to work. "I-I don't h-have any bits w-with me..."

He clicked his tongue, and gave a smiley laugh. "Don't be silly, I wouldn't make you pay...I mean, I want to treat you to lunch. And don't worry, I'm more than happy to do so." He stood back up and extended a hoof, to bring the mare up to her hooves. He smiled, "C'mon, cutie." He kept barraging her with compliments, and was hoping she was actually liking them.

"I-i-if you're sure..." Sunset's cheeks grew redder at the new compliment.
Why does he keep complimenting me? Not that I... mind... but they can't be true, can they? How can somepony like me be anywhere close to cute...?

Still far too shy to take his hoof, she timidly replied, "Th-thank you... b-but i-it's okay... I-I can get up..." as she weakly stood on all four still trembling hooves.

She quickly dusted herself off with her wings and offered Fender a shy, "S-sorry..." to apologize for refusing his help.

Fender hadn't taken notice of her apparent refusal, simply because it wouldn't have bothered him. "Sorry?" He began leading them to a small diner in Ponyville, he made sure to stay at the same pace as her, so as not to leave her behind. "What for?" He grinned, "You've nothing to be sorry about."

following Fender, Sunset could practically feel ponies staring at her, making her legs tremble, which in turn made it harder to keep up. She tried, to go faster so he wouldn't get annoyed with her slow pace, but her trembling made it more difficult. Noticing a fillly staring straight at her, she let out a soft whimper and hid behind her mane before returning her attention to Fender. She didn't notice that she had moved a bit closer to him in a subconscious effort to escape the stares of the passerby.
"I-I quess not..." she mumbled. He hadn't noticed, and judging by how he had treated her already she doubted he would think her refusal was something to apologize for, so she didn't bother with embarrassing herself by explaining.

He started noticing her getting more nervous and moving closer to him. He stopped and turned around, some concern on his face, and his voice. "Are you okay?" He slowly realized, and his voice grew a reassuring tone. He sighed, and with a confident smile, spoke to her. "You don't have to worry, nopony here will hurt you...and even if they tried, I would keep you safe. Okay?" He lightly, and slowly rose a hoof and placed it on her shoulder, as if to add extra assurance of his words.

Sunset continued to tremble even though Fender tried to console her. While she was afraid of the ponies here hurting her, and Fender's words did help slightly with that, that hadn't been what was scaring her. No, the fear coursing through her was caused by the stares of the ponies around them.
"I-I-It's not th-that..." she whimpered. "I-i-it's... p-ponies.... st-st-staring.....i-it's...

Her already small voice broke and tears pricked her eyes. With this little scene, even more ponies were looking their way, causing Sunset's light quivering to turn to full-out trembling.
