Fender soon fully realized what was happening. He couldn't remember the name, but he had seen this condition before. An old freind of his...he acted quickly, picking Sunset up in both of his forelegs and flying them off to the outskirts of town where most likely nopony would be. He didn't pay any attention to whether or not she wanted to be flown away, he just knew she wouldn't want to break down in the middle of the street.

Carefully, he set the mare down, joining her on the ground and hugging her, almost instinctively. "Shh...you're alright." he whispered. "We can go back whenever you're ready...okay? Do you wanna just sit out here for a bit, and talk, relax?" He had concern in his voice, as her fear of being stared at seemed very serious. His hug almost became tighter, but he made sure to still let her breathe freely.

While Sunset was surprised by Fender's sudden action of picking her up and flying her away, she was grateful for it even through her fear. It was getting her away from the ponies.
After being set down, she was surprised again, this time by him wrapping his forelegs around her. She didn't know what he was doing, but it had a bit of a comforting effect, as did what he said.
Once she had eventually calmed down enough to speak correctly, she murmured, "I-I'm sorry..."

He chuckled half-heartedly. "You don't have to be sorry at all...it's no problem to me." He smiled, and blushed as he let the hug go, thinking it was a bit too much. "Heheh...I haven't had a day this strange and exciting in quite awhile. You are a hoofful, but I'm happy to be here for you."

Sunset's cheeks reddened to match Fender's as he pulled from the embrace.
"A-a hoofful?" she echoed.
H-he just said he doesn't mind.... But then he said I'm a hoofful... Did he lie?
"I-I'm sorry," the small orange mare mumbled, once again hiding slightly behind her mane and averting her gaze so her blue eyes were  staring at the ground.

Fender thought now would be the time to be brave.

He smiled once more, "You've made apologizing a lifestyle." He used one hoof to lift her chin up, so that she would look him in the eyes, and another to brush her mane away. He didn't recoil back at the sight, but simply smiled more broadly. Her left eye and the left side of her face looked very badly damaged, but still intact. Still, he wasn't bothered by it. "You have gorgeous eyes, y'know?" He smiled confidently, "You really shouldn't apologize so much...it's like you believe everything you do is wrong, or a mistake...but everypony makes mistakes...that doesn't mean they should always have to apologize for anything they do." He nodded to himself, while grinning, "If I had accepted your apology earlier when we bumped into eachother, and if I had just gone on my way, you might've been at some cramped orphanage right now, and I might've been without a freind right now." He chuckled.

Sunset stared, wide-eyed and terrified, as Fender moved her mane aside to reveal the heavily marred left side of her face. Surprisingly, he didn't recoil or anything. It was like he hadn't noticed the scars.
She listened to what he was saying, and blushed again at the end of his speech.
"I-I'm your... f-f-friend?" She was shocked. Nopony had ever wanted to be her friend before. She didn't even know how to be a friend. She awkwardly shuffled before altering the topic so it no longer focused on her."E-either way... Th-there were lots o-of new ponies t-today... Y-you would've made a new f-friend even if we hadn't met..."
Not that she wasn't... grateful. If she hadn't met him, she would be having the aftermath of a panic attack either in the orphanage or in some deserted alleyway right then. And... he was the nicest pony she'd ever met. Nopony had been so kind to her in her entire life. It was...nice.

He chuckled, "Well, maybe...but I doubt anypony else would've been nearly as interesting...or pretty." He beamed, "Truly, it's a privilege to meet such a cute mare." He stared into both of her eyes, "I wouldn't change a thing about today so far, to be completely honest with you."

Sunset's blush intensified, but for once, she didn't avert her gaze as he stared into her eyes. She decided she shouldn't be afaid of him anymore. Of course, she was likely going to be nervous and shy, but given how he'd treated her, she knew she didn't need to be wary of him.
And maybe... she could trust him.
"I-I don't see how it would b-be a privilege to meet m-me..." she started, then her lips formed into a weak, timid smile - it was small, but there nonetheless. "B-but... Th-thank you..."

He beamed, "Was that a smile I just saw?" He chuckled, "Well, look at you, making improvements already." He hugged her again, more so out of a sense of pride this time. Upon releasing the hug, "That's the first step toward your very bright future. That one adorable little smile." He was still grinning.

While Fender's words made her blush again, she was also a little curious. Did he really think she was that cute? She honestly couldn't see herself as cute. The opposite, really, was how she saw herself.
"D-Do you really th-think that?" she asked timidly. She was still too shy to outright ask if her really thought she was cute, but it didn't really matter. A step towards her "bright future"? While the smile wasn't a bad thing, though it had felt alien on her muzzle - she couldn't remember if she'd ever smiled - she wasn't sure if it was all that important either. Either Answer could probably work.

"If you mean the adorable smile bit...then yes, absolutely." He chuckled, "Well, actually, I meant all of it...and basically...everything I've said since we've met. I've no reason to lie to you. You're very, very cute, beautiful, you are a mystery, you're interesting...I'd still like to take you to lunch, and I'm more than sure I'd love to see you smile again...and a lot more often." He grinned.

Sunset blushed as Fender kept piling her with... compliments? She wasn't sure she could call them that. Compliments were usually for making somepony fell good or better about themselves, even if the pony giving them didn't necessarily mean them. Fender seemed to truly believe what he was saying; rather than just telling her these things to make her happy, it seemed he was speaking his mind. Even though Sunset didn't understand why he was telling her this, what he said brought another tiny smile to her muzzle, just as timid as the one she'd given earlier. It even felt as weird on her face as it had before, too. She wasn't used to smiling.

@@Mint Drop,

Upon seeing the mare's smile, Fender himself beamed. "That's more like it. So, lunch?" He helped both of them to their hooves, and looked expectantly at the mare. "You've gotta be pretty hungry." He chuckled, "And...it is my treat to you, after all." He offered a hoof toward the town.

Sunset followed his hoof and shifted nervously. She wasn't sure she was ready to go back, but she didn't want to disappoint him, either. And truth be told, she was pretty hungry.
"S-sure..." she mumbled, and followed him back into town.

~TIEMSKEEP~

The walk to the restaurant had been uneventful, though that may have been because she had walked on the other side of Fender this time so that on her other side were buildings, and so she could hide behind him if she saw somepony staring.
Now, inside, she didn't notice if anypony was staring because she was distracted by how nice it looked. Granted, it was probably not the fanciest restaurant in the world, but it was by far the nicest place she'd ever been in. Her awe left her speechless as she stood next to Fender, in line to be seated by a waiter.

Fender leaned in and whispered to the pony at the counter, "A booth in a corner, please. We'd like some privacy." He winked, so as if to give the impression they were on a date, but really it was to make sure she could be kept a bit out of sight. A part of him desperately wanted to help her conquer her fear, but it wasn't time yet.

Soon, they sat in the booth and a waitress approached them, "What can I get you two?"

Fender jingled his bit bag for a sec, checking the weight, shrugged, and said, "Two of your finest salads...the best you've got." He grinned. The waitress looked a bit confused, but simply walked away rolling her eyes.

Fender now found himself leaning on one hoof, admiring Sunset's eyes. Well, eye, the one that she was showing. "Y'know, you shouldn't hide behind your mane so much, you have wonderful eyes." He grinned.

Sunset was grateful for him asking for the corner booth. That way, she wouldn't be easily seen.
She heard Fender telling the witress to give them the best salad, and blushed, but at the same time her ears drooped with guilt.
"Y-Y-you didn't have to get me s-something nice," she mumbled, hoping she didn't sound ungrateful. She was, but she didn't want him to blow his money on her. "I-I'd be fine with a n-normal salad... o-or even a bad one... I-I'm used to bad food... A-and I wouldn't want you wasting your bits on m-me..."

He simply smiled at her, "It's not a waste at all, and plus, if you're used to bad...I think you deserve a bit of good." He continued smiling politely, "You honestly don't deserve as bad as you seem to think you do." He reached a hoof across the table and took hers. "This is why I also want you to live with me...if you've been in an orphanage all of your life, which I'm wanting to guess that you have...I think you finally deserve your own comfort zone." He chuckled, "Well, sort of your own...but hey, you can have the bed, I'll take the living room couch." He grinned, "There's time for that later, though. The salads will be out soon." He said excitedly.

Sunset listened to what he said, but her ears pricked up and her blue eyes went wide when he entioned her taking the bedroom.

"N-no! ... I-i mean, I-i couldn't possibly take your b-bed... I-it's yours, I-I don't want you to g-give it up to b-be nice to me... -I'd feel bad if I let you s-sleep on the couch..." she said, the guilt already setting in.

I don't deserve for him to be so nice to me... I should just leave, right now, and go to the orphanage.
But, for some reason, she stayed where she was.

Fender was surprised by her reaction, but then understood it, "Oh no, no, no. Comfy sleeping place for you!" He happily, yet jokingly insisted. "I mean, we could share the bed, but I didn't want to suggest that as I figured there might be some discomfort sleeping next some stranger stallion." He laughed nervously. "There's no shame in accepting gifts, y'know?" He smiled. "I suppose meeting such a nice pony was my gift today, now I get to return the favor." He still held her hoof, as if to back up his words.

Still blushing from Fender's comment about there being discomfort with sharing a bed with a stallion she had only met that day - even if she had known him for a long time, there still would be some discomfort, so he wasn't far off -, Sunset tilted her head.
"G-gift?" she echoed, confused. She'd heard the word once or twice before, but had never really understood what it meant.
Something about giving things, I think...? How was meeting me giving him something?

He grinned, in a way that almost resembled confusion, but still answered her.

"Yeah, it's been a pleasure meeting you." He smiled widely.

Soon, the salads arrived, and Fender's stomach finally growled, as if to say 'Put that in me, now.' Fender let go of the mare's hoof, and gestured toward her salad, "Now eat, I'm sure you're hungry." He smiled politely, then proceeded to dig into his own salad.

Sunset was still confused - perhaps even more so now, as she didn't see what could be pleasurable about meeting her - but she did as he said and started eating.
When they finished their food, she timidly looked up at him again, the confusion back on her face.
"I-I don't know wh-what a g-gift is..." she mumbled. "S-so I don't really u-understand..."

He was confused, and a little sad that she didn't know. "Must've been a really hard life..." He almost spoke his thought out loud.

"Well...a gift is usually something good somepony might recieve. It usually means an item...like, if somepony were to give you a dress for a birthday...that'd be a gift. Though, it doesn't always have to be an item...whatever you recieve in life, if it's a good thing to you, you could consider it a gift." He smiled, "Thus, I consider you to be a gift to me. From who? No idea...but hey, doesn't make being around you any less exciting."

@,
Sunset blushed profusely as Fender said she was a gift to him.
"I-I don't see how m-meeting me is a g-gift..." she started, before giving him another tiny, timid smile. "B-but thank you... f-for thinking so..."
The waitress from earlier trotted up to them.
"Is that all?" she asked, looking at Fender expectantly. Sunset wasnt sure how he could stand that, and she hated to think it, but she was at least glad she wasn't the one being stared at.
Selfish... so selfish.

Fender rolled his eyes slightly at the seemingly impatient mare, and grinned. "Of course."

He payed for the food, and walked himself and Sunset out of the restaurant. "Well, what now?" He asked out loud, not to anypony in particular. "Hm...would you like to see my house? It's a little out of the way of the town, but not horribly far...especially if we fly." He smiled.
