Lyra is best background pony!

Okay, okay, I admit that the title of this post isn't entirely true but, I do think she has one of the best color schemes in the show and, thats actually the main reason why I decided to paint her. tongue.png 

Anyway, I painted this in Photoshop, more specifically version Cs5. Now, I know I say this a lot and Im likely going to say it over and over agin until I feel that my work is of higher quality but, I still very much consider myself to be a complete novice when it comes to digital art so, my apologies for how sloppy this painting may look.

Also, I dont remember who it was but, ether @Bronyette or said something to me that was really motivational and kept me going, wanting to push myself to get better when I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. So thank you for that. Im going to feel like such an idiot if it was nether of you. XD

I never really got into Lyra, but you painting is really good! I do agree, her colors are really great.

 

The only thing I see is that her left eye (our left, her right) might be detached from her face. But that does give it a kind of cute look...

Yeah, with the eyes I was trying to give them a stylization, so there a bit over exaggerated than normal. 

 

I admit that I may have gone a little over board with it though. img-2016337-1-laugh.png

That's one nice looking pony (mind you, the pose could be perceived as questionable).

The colours and shading work really well, kudos.

-the horn looks a bit wobbly

-the whites of the eyes look a bit dark

Thanks Sliver, its always nice to have a fellow artist critique my work. smile.png

 

My reasoning for making the eye white as dark as it is, is so that you can really see a difference in contrast between her eye white and the highlights in her pupil where the light is reflecting and bouncing back. I don't think Im quite getting the effect that I want out of it but, hey thats what practice is for right? 

 

I'll also try to work on the posing, I generally have a hard time with that and perspective.

I actually don't remember if it was me or not, but either way your art is adorable! The eyes are certainly my favorite part of this painting. They just pop so well, and it looks way better without the black pupil.

 

Oh and the ears. :wub: I adore larger ears on ponies, makes them so much cuter.

 

Overall, great piece! It's awesome! :catface:

It looks great, but the eyes kinda bother me. I guess its because they're a little out of place, but that's just me. And on to best background pony, this is full of bias but best background(and best pony) is Vinyl Scratch. AGAIN, full of my bias. :3
