As the day of Hearth's Warming Eve approached the town on Yanhoover, everyone was looking forward to the official winding ceremony of the famous Clocktower of Yanhoover, a massive building that, according to legend, used to be a coven for unicorns who specialized in time travel and manipulation. They were supposively all decimated by a rouge spell that sent that spiraling throughout time and space but left the building untouched.

As the Equestrians moved in and sprang up the town, it remained a tradition to keep the Clocktower winded, as legend said that, without constant attention, it would plunge the entire world into chaos...

As Lord Inquisitior Moonlight sat back from reading the file, he sighed and stood up slowly. He was considering retiring, but he decided to get as much out of this old body as he could first before stepping down to a life of relaxation.

As he went abovedecks of the airship, he winced slightly as the cold air suddenly began gnawing on him. Sighing, he stalked towards the stern of the ship, watching the countryside fly behind them...

((Alright, everyone starts on the airship except who can enter whenever she feels she can. Enjoy, everypony! :D ))

Equinox was already on the stern of the ship looking down at the countryside before yawning. "I can't believe it's almost hearths warming eve" He turned to head back inside and saw the Lord Inquisitor. "Chilly day out isn't it" He grinned as he said that.

"Indeed it is. Almost heading towards too cold." Moonlight shivered a bit, wrapping himself up tighter in his cloak. "It is what it is. At least we are not going to the Crystal Empire. I'm not sure these old southern bones could handle that trip." He sighed.

"Yeah it is a bit too cold but it works out for me in case anything happens" He up at the sky. "Crystal Empire would be freezing cold though, hell I wouldn't even go there" He joked as he looked at Moonlight. "Do you mind telling me about this Clocktower please" He asked

Monkshood stared out the airship. He sighed as he watched, what he assumed to be, bits of shrubbery and forest lands slowly roll by. The plant-life of so many regions still seemed to beckon for him, holding so much unexplored possibilities. He turned his head away from the view. It was best not to ponder personal pursuits at such a time as there would be time for that later.

Slowly, Monkshood moved from his resting position, and began ascending up the decks looking for the Lord Inquisitor. As he arrived upon the uppermost deck, he stared onwards as another questioned the aging pony.

@,

Shadow Star smirked as she faced her opponents across a wooden table. "So," she drawled. "What's your move gonna be, boys? Are you in, or are you out?"

One of the stallions, an earth pony, put down his hoof of poker. "I fold," he said evenly, as the other stallion, a pegasus rolled his eyes. "Coward," the pegasus teased. "I'm in, for sure!" He was certain that he was going to win this game; the earth pony simply kept his even smile on his face.

Shadow Star raised the stakes again. "I'm putting a whole bag of bits in," she said to the pegasus. "You in, or are you gonna fold and do this the easy way?"

"Hell no!" the pegasus stallion exclaimed. "I'm not folding to no mare!" He threw his last bag of bits on to the gaming table, full of confidence.

"Guess it's time now to reveal our hooves," Shadow Star remarked. "You first."

A confident smirk still on his face, the pegasus stallion revealed his poker hoof. "A pair and a trio," he said. "Beat that, mare."

"Well, you can't say that you didn't ask for it," Shadow Star replied, as she revealed her own hoof. The pegasus gaped. It was a Celestial Flush, which effectively knocked his hoof into a cocked hat. The earth pony snorted with laughter.

"I warned you about playing against Shadow, but you wouldn't listen, would you?" he said, tears of mirth rolling down his cheeks. The pegasus scowled as he threw his bag of bits over to the unicorn mare, who grinned as she levitated the bags into the air and down inside her already bulging saddlebags. "Good game, gentlemen," she replied, with an ironic bow to both. "I think we ought to call it quits for the night."

Still grinning, Shadow Star trotted away in the direction of the uppermost deck. The unicorn mare hadn't gained her cutie mark for nothing; her talent was at gambling, and she always won. If the cards were stacked against her, she wasn't against using her magic in order to win, and it was a foolhardy gambler who dared to take her on. A member of the Luna branch of the Inquistion, Shadow Star had kept her wits about her during her long and chequered career. She saw the Lord Inquisitor on the upper deck, talking with another pony.

"Evening," she said to him, still unable to suppress her grin at her victory.

@@@Nomadic,  @@Pripyat Pony,

Moonlight smiled at the ridiculous smirk on Shadow's face. "Why, hello, there, Shadow. I suspect that you won yet another round with the airship crew?" He chuckled and shook his head. "I keep warning them, and they keep ignoring me. And you keep making bits." He sighed and turned to Equinox. "I would like to get a little closer to our target before divesting that information. With all the hurry you've given me on this information, I might start to think that you were a spy." Moonlight laughed, but there was a warning hidden within it...

"Yes I am but you haven't given a mission and besides im more of a assassin if you may" He took notice of Shadow. "Ah and now two more appears before us" He said as he also noticed Moonkshood appear also. Being part of the Luna Inquisition he knew one of them but only as part of the inquisition.

@, Shadow Star laughed. "Yes, sadly, that's true enough," she replied. "It seems that the pegasi stallions want to believe that they can beat me. I regret to say that hope is in vain. In any case, the bits I won ought to come in handy sometime."

Shadow Star's son Diego was also in the Inquisition, but in a different branch, as was her granddaughter Glory. She hardly ever saw either of them.

Monkshood looked onwards as another pony emerged from below. This was irrelevant to him. He had come up he for information from the Lord Inquisitor not to listen to others prattle infinitely. He ignored and trotted past them. His mind was set ablaze with questions as he approached the Lord Inquisitor.

"Lord Inquisitor forgive my impertinence, but what is the purpose of our accompaniment to this mechanized abomination? Surely it must not take a small accompaniment of Inquisitors just for a sight seeing tour of Yanhoover". Monkshood stated in his typical prideful manner.

@@@Nomadic,  @@Pripyat Pony,

Moonlight sighed. "Well, since everypony seems to be bugging me to no end about it..." He sighed. "As you stated before, we are headed towards the Town of Yanhoover. In the northernmost part of the town, there is an abandoned monastery that has several components inside with immense power- yet, due to Yanhoover technically being a free city-state and other politics of the sort, Celestia agreed that we- the Inquisition, the Guard, what-have-you- would not be able to enter the city unless a danger had arisen. Well, that time has come." He sighed. "Two things that would be alright on their own, yet extremely dangerous if considering that they are not coincidences. First, a known demonancer has been on the move towards the area. Second, there has been a buildup of dark energy..."

He sighed and shook his head. "I swear to Luna, these ponies think that we cannot add two and two together."

@, "I suppose then, that it's down to us to investigate," Shadow Star replied. She rolled her eyes. "What a shame. I wonder what it's like to have a peaceful life?"

She turned then to face Moonlight fully. "Do you know whether or not we'll have to call in the Black Legion?" she asked. "They are the experts in demons, after all."

@@Pripyat Pony @

His mind recoiled, the blue mare's snide remark made him think of before he had joined the Inquisition. The wandering and freedom of all Equestria laid before him. How his journals still remained unfinished with so many empty pages, yet to be filled. Monkshood shook his head realising he was merely staring off into space, and now was not the time for day-dreaming.

Monkshood snickered, "If we can cut the demonancer off before they arrive, I'm sure my knowledge will more then suffice".

He turned around and sighed. If it was as the Lord Inquisitor had stated, then some more specific preparation would need to be in order.

"If I'm needed, please call for me. I'll be in my quarters", he stated as he began to turn around.

@@Pripyat Pony, "We would do that. I would do that in a heartbeat. But the entire Black Legion has been deployed en masse to combat a full scale northern invasion of Manehattan. All that's available is a token squad that was left at Canterlot in case of emergencies." He shook his head. "I wish that we had a more offensive team... we're going to be running around in there like a bunch of guerrilla fighters."

@@Nomadic, "Eh? Well, if you want to get preparing, that's a good idea. Actually, I have a few things to do myself. If anyone needs me, I will be belowdecks." Moonlight bowed to the group before shuffling downstairs.

Stardust looked around the old wooden corridors of the place as she looked for the stairwell down below, Her memory shady since it had been so long ago.

The wood creaked underneath her wait for a second, and she stopped so that she wouldn't fall. She was in the older part of the clocktower, the part left alone by everypony so of course the maintenance hadn't been kept up since the last time she stepped on the panels. She was heading for the basement, since that was the place she was there for last time, and that what she wanted to find out was surely to be there.

Stardust remembered what happened as she took tentative steps on the wooden panels, memories sprouting as she walked on further.

Stardust walked with five other ponies through the dimly lit corridor in the tower, all of them in simple dark brown hooded cloaks that covered mostly all of their features, except for their tai tale horns and fringes or bangs. All of them were unicorns, except for herself. But they didn't know that. She had hidden her wings with magic when she talked to them without cloaks on, and  when they were she had no need of hiding them with magic since the cloth did that for her.

The door creaked as it opened, one of the lead ponies using their magic, their aura of magic around the door handle and around their horn gave a bit more light to where they were standing. The other ponies filed into the dark room, the floor no longer wood but now hard earth as they had reached the bottom of the clock tower.

They instantly fell into positions, unknowing to the ponies that knew them, but all of them were unicorns who partook in Time magic. All of them doing small tricks or slightly bigger ones in the past on a regular basis, Time magic was more flexible in this age, since it was still a raw power in its sense and ponies had better access to it. Stardust came to this time on a regular basis because of that, she could live with ponies who understand a little as to what she could do, but they understood it at least and that was made her come back more and more.

But these ponies weren't trying to perform a trick or entertaining somepony, they were planning to do something more sinister. Stardust couldn't watch as a world she lived in and loved died around her, it all connected through time magic which she was control over, it was her job to look after time. So when she caught whiff of this group, and that they were needing another pony, she was onto it.

She found the door, she was staring at it now, her memory fading as she compte- plated walking through the door.

She had felt a presence, something dark. She felt is miles away in her home, but she felt it all the same, and knew that it came from here.

She had saved the day in her younger years, the ponies in the circle didn't make it, but everypony else did.

But now as she was standing at the door she couldn't feel it anymore, not in the standing presence she had felt earlier at least, but maybe it was still there but hiding.

She pushed open the door with her hoof, and it creakily swung open. The room was pitch black, and stardust took a few deep breaths before she took a step inside. Her wings flapped open as she had to keep afloat in the room, since there was no floor.

And thats when the notes started to play in her head once more

@, "Yes... now you mention it, I do remember my son taking off with the Legion to head towards Manehatten," Shadow Star replied. "Of course, we don't really talk much. He grew up very distant from me, and his father leaving before he was born didn't help matters."

Shadow Star gave a shrug. "I guess we'll have to handle this on our own," she said. "We've done it before; we can simply find out what's going on, and then plan accordingly."

"I would agree with her on this" Equinox started. "But it also best to plan ahead and change accordingly to the situation" He added as he looked at the others. "It's always better to plan ahead then to find out what is going in order to change the plan to better suit the situation"

His tail swished through the air as he descend into the belly of the ship. Monkshood weaved through its corridors, and began to ponder the meaning of events about to transpire. His mind poured over the eventualities. His head shook in uncertainty as he worried about his fighting fidelity. Could he be truly counted on in such a situation? Whilst he had been always a more than capable apothecary, he had never much cared for the way of the blade, and oft preferring to simply leave an area if any such thing occurred. Though within such a short time it seemed, he had been thrown into a situation where this was no longer an option.

"Argh, parents what should I do?", he shouted in a fit of uncertainty as his hooves clanged against the metallic floor.

It didn't matter, Monkshood's pride would hopefully not let him falter. He approached the entrance to his quarters. As he glanced inwards the room appeared barren and sterile, except for his journals and some of his flasks strewn about the desk. He was never one for organization much to the chagrin of his many superiors, but they still let him continue his research to some limited capacity. Was his research even that necessary, or did it simply keep him out of everyone else's mane.

Entering the quarters, he approached the desk. His mind began to slip into thought of the plants he had studied over the years, and slowly he began to mutter and jot down a list of possible toxins he could acquire or make before he was needed. Hopefully, this would be an acceptable solution for now. He reached across the desk with his hooves and grabbed a rack containing only two vials. One contained some refined mandrake root. Whilst the other contained a small amount crushed nux-vomica seeds.

"I guess I'll finally be able to try these out finally" stating with a look of exasperation.

Shadow Star shrugged, carelessly. "That's not how I roll," she said. "I've found that sometimes, even if you endlessly plan ahead, you can't cover every single eventuality and problem that life throws at you. It's better to find out what you're dealing with and then decide. Then again, life itself is a gamble, and you won't always have the perfect hoof."

A lone figure wrapped in a long cloak stood up on deck, stood aside from the small group. She stared ahead, her mane whipped around her face by the wind. Mariposa was a Changeling, and a member of the Inquisition. Her skills amounted to stealth and spying; she had been a spy for her Queen, previous to joining the Inquisition in the Luna Branch, which suited her secretive nature.

Monkshood stared at the two vials containing the plant remains. He had never incorporated them into anything before, but knowledge spread quickly around the Twilight Branch. Gaining insight into what uses and potential these two seemingly harmless ingredients could possess. It was curious really, so many worried about the danger posed by demons yet unbeknownst to so many ponies that nature could indeed be as well cruel in its actions.

With a slight sigh, he pulled his mortar and pestle out of his bag. Monkshood placed the two objects down upon his desk and began his work. Filling the mortar with the contents of his saddle bag, he already began to envision the end result. Despite the constant movement of the airship, he remained calm as he tried not to lose any of his materials due to the turbulence. Smashing what few plants and fungi he had been able to gather before their mission, together into various powders and pastes. Slowly, he combined these with any of his remaining tinctures, and began to fill his multitude of vials with a variety of what was soon to be tonics and poisons.

The creation of such things, gave him a vaguely euphoric feeling, relaxed him to a state of near-bliss. Despite what the Inquisitors had taught him he stilled preferred to incorporate his skills of the natural world within his brews, yet he sighed realising that such mixtures would not be truly effective against demons, no matter their strength. His work was not yet complete. He would need a few more arcane ingredients to truly make them their finest. With an exhausted look upon his face, he placed the vials carefully one by one onto the nearest rack and slid them back onto the shelf. His work would be finished soon enough, but first he needed some rest.
