Favorite horror game?

My mind wants me to say Amnesia The Dark Descent or Resident Evil 2. However my heart says Silent Hill 2. I love that game a lot. The soundtrack is so good. Such an unsettling game.

This might be out there a bit

But Home Safety Hotline is my favorite horror game.

It doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares like so many horror games do.

The entries/entities you never get to personally meet, but if you fail an answer, it ranges from typical customer annoyance to hearing them on the phone get mauled to death by something, or they hallucinate on the phone. And there's literally nothing you can do about it.

Omg the calls on some of the failed answers. It's no jumpscare but the voice acting made many of them very chilling. There's one in particular that's just terrifying if you give the wrong answer.

The variety and integration of ancient fae and paranormal activity mixed with 90s Anywhere, America, is done very well. You'll get entries like termites mixed with otherworldly things.

Lore-wise, it's interesting how cops and doctors just tell people to call the HSH because of how insane these specific issues are. They want nothing to do with them and I can't blame them.

Especially when these issues just roll around each other in an endless wheel of suffering. The remedy or solution of one problem can attract another entity. One that may be even more dangerous than whatever the caller is dealing with.

As well as what would happen if it isn't dealt with soon enough. There are some freaky yet friendly entities but if you don't take care of them, they will take on metamorphosis and turn into something that will make you wish you put out the bowl of cream every night.

There's some that aren't even creatures; paranormal locations can pop up... many of which just cause people to fall into madness.

Their implementation of analog horror is done very well too. It's not forced and fits with the atmosphere of the game.

I also appreciate that nothing is a quick time event. Everything's at your own pace so you can just keep callers on hold forever if you want.
