Once upon a time, before the founding of Equestria, there were only five major planets in the surrounding universe. Each of them were ruled independently by wise yet powerful monarchy alicorns, known as the Wise Ones, each whom represented one of the five elements.

 

(Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Void.)

 

They all lived in peace with one another, until the day that each of the five planets had run out of resources for their monarchs to use. The Wise Ones then left each one of their planets and raced through the vast universe, with their own people, looking for a new and bigger planet. And did they find one? Yes, yes they did.

 

A dark but yet beautiful planet stood before them, bigger than any of their own planets combined. They quickly touched down onto the dry, deserted and dark land and there after held a grand summit meeting between the five Wise Ones. They quickly came to the conclusion that the planet was big enough for all of them to live on, in peace and harmony. They then clashed their hoofs together and combined their elemental powers, with each of them creating an element on the planet itself.

•          The creation of Fire, by Emperor Pyre.
•          The creation of Wind, by Kaiser Typhoon.
•          And finally, the creation of Void, by Duke Zion.

All five of them then created and chose Princess Celestia and Princess Luna to master the elements of Night and Day in their new world. They then created two more alicorns to represent the elements ofLife and Death, to maintain balance:

 

Lord Occidere of the Underworld and Empress Spiritus of the Promised Land.

 

The creation of what would become known as Terraum (“Terra + Equorum” - Land of the Horses), took a total of six days. On the seventh day, all the Wise Ones rested, overlooking the new and prosperous land they had created, together.

 

But soon after, a situation between Lord Occidere and Empress Spiritus erupted. Occidere, being resentful that his younger sister was more worshipped and appreciated than himself, by the Wise Ones and the ponies they had created and placed on their new planet, grew a stronger hatred towards the five Wise Ones and his sister.

 

And then, a horrible day came by for Terraum. The first stroke of death had claimed its first victim. A young pegasus pony named Blackhoof had died from an illness, and was sent, with much grief, down to Lord Occidere. But Occidere had other major plans for his first "guest".

 

Using his powerful dark magic, he transferred all his bigotry, hatred and rage into the young Pegasus pony, transforming him into an image of Occidere himself. He became known in the underworld as Overlord Miseria, or in local folklore, as The Traitorous One.

 

You see, way before the five Wise Ones had started to carve out each of their new territories, Occidere had been travelling through the underworld, overseeing his new “kingdom”. In that search, he had found a mythical portal, long built before the Wise Ones even had arrived on the planet. Curious, he used his dark magic to open the portal, and soon discovered a red and hellish land. A dark and red wasteland covered in black crystals, acid, volcanoes and mythical shadowy winged creatures and pegasus ponies alike, eager to obey a new master. One of its dark sorcerers, named Anguis, greeted and accompanied Occidere throughout his many walks across the wasteland. Anguis told Occidere the story of the kingdom he had discovered, the Kingdom of the Nova Roi, latin for Sky Kings.

 

Many millenniums ago, the Norovian Empire was one of the most powerful empires on the planet, conquering kingdom after kingdom, turning its castles and fortresses into prison dungeons, burning its cities and forcing its citizens to become slaves. However, over time the resistance grew larger and stronger, and finally the downfall of the empire began. Three powerful wizards managed to open a portal to the Abeyance and after a long struggle, the resistance managed to trap the remaining forces of the Norovian Empire, alongside it's leaders, inside the portal, closing it behind them. But not before Anguis managed to cast a deadly fire sweeping spell upon the mainland, incinerating all life on the planet. Anguis told Occidere of the power he could achieve by leading the Nova Roi for a final march. A march that would sweep Terraum in eternal darkness, making the Nova Roi the most powerful empire on the planet once again, and perhaps even in the galaxy.

 

Occidere went through the portal each day, increasing his powerlust by each minute. But his younger sister had been watching him, and went to the Wise Ones to warn them about the portal. But they simply did not believe her, since they were the ones who found the planet in the first place. Surely, no none had been here before them.

 

On the eight day the Wise Ones awoke by the sound of the ground shattering beneath them. Soon after, dark crystals began plummeting through the ground, alongside sharp edged mountains, volcanoes and shadowy pegasus ponies, attacking the nearby cities. Queen Cinder, King Plethora and Kaiser Typhoon stayed behind to battle these enormous waves of elemental forces as Emperor Pyre and Duke Zion rushed to the underground alongside Empress Spiritus. They quickly discovered swarms and swarms of armor plated shadowy like knights swarming out of the giant portal. By then, the alternate image of Occidere, Overlord Miseria stepped forward alongside Anguis, proclaiming that the game was up, and that he had had enough, and that he was going to shroud Terraum in eternal darkness.

 

By then, the hostiles above ground had been hold back, and soon after the remaining Wise Ones rushed to the underground, prepared and eager to face Miseria and his dark league. The battle was fierce and intense, but Empress Spiritus and the Wise Ones managed to push back Miseria and his dark league back inside the portal, shutting it behind them.

 

King Plethora then proceeded to flood the cave with water, and Queen Cinder to bury it beneath the ground, never to be found again. They then made Empress Spiritus responsible for both The Promised Land and The Underworld, which she accepted.

 

As time passed by, the Wise Ones had gone into a deep slumber and three tribes were struggling for control. The unicorns, the pegasus’s and the earth ponies. However, after a long struggle, involving the tribe leaders, they came to agreement to forge the Principality of Equestria, which then Princess Celestia and Princess Luna took upon themselves to co-rule together, whilst still keeping a solid connection between them and Empress Spiritus.

 

However, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna knew of the portal as the Wise Ones had told them about, and the danger that one pony might open it and that Overlord Miseria might rise from his tomb, to conquer Terraum and shroud it in eternal darkness.
