What language would they speak?

I was wondering this for a while, but if Equestria were a real place somewhere in the universe, what language would be spoken?

In the show, the characters all speak English (Well, they speak the language of wherever it is being aired), but if they were real, would all the creatures speak the same language, or would they have different languages depending on their species?

The ponies would speak in whinnies and neighs, griffons would probably screech, etc. But , correct me if I'm wrong, only Fluttershy seems to truly be able to communicate with all species from what we've seen so far. If every creature had a different language, the ponies would need to learn numerous languages. Wouldn't it be easier if there was one Equestrian language?

 

PS. Do you think there would be a difference in writing between ponies that write with their mouths (Pegasi, earth ponies), unicorns that write with their magic, and creatures that can write with hands/claws, such as Spike?

I think all the sentient creatures (ie: Ponies, Griffins, Zebra....) speak a common language. Fluttershy reads body language of the animals, and knows from talent and practice how each species displays emotions. She even hints towards this in todays episode when she said she didn't know how to communicate properly with the bats due to lack of experience with them.

Judging from their unique form of writing, I would imagine they speak some variant of the English language. As shown in the following examples:

 

 

 

 

 

Certain aspects of writing could give you some kind of idea as what language they speak to communicate with one another. I mean in  almost all of the international dubs of this show, the mane 6 are referred to by their name. 

 

And that banner from the topmost example seems to say: WeLcomE Prircess CeLeST

 

So that could imply that their ways of speaking is a more primitive form of the English language. But who knows really. It's impossible to say for sure.

I'm not going to come out and say english. Other than the top picture, which twilight points out is unacceptable, the other examples could as easily be russian.

Some of their writing indicates English,  however some signs have a writing that is very similar to Eastern European languages.

It could be a mix of languages? The writing, while some of its characteristics are clearly recognizable as being derived from the English language, I have to agree with Harmonic Revelations that some aspects of it do resemble Eastern European language. So their language could be just a mix of various words, phrases, and dialects from a variety of different languages while being mostly similar to English.

I'm going to go with, independent language that just so happens to look like english at times. Like in Happy Feet when Mumbles says, "I'm speaking plain penguin." and it sounds like english to us as the veiwer. By all seriousness, it's an american/canadian show. Of course display are going to be in english so the viewers can read them.

Ack. This is what I get for not seeing episodes on time. Yes, I do have to agree with your point, languages would be only within the sentient creatures. Nonspeaking creatures can interpret through their actions.

They would probebly just speak in some strange language. Vocal chords are very mannable and could move any which way. They would just speak in a language they could pronce just like humans did when the many languages were formed

Words like Sihovi and Exclusiev are just a fault of lazy animator. They speak English, but there are real world's languages in Equestria, we know that German, Suahili and French exist on the Planet where Equestria is located.

it wil be cool if they spoke latin or some medieval ancient language   btw i think they speak some altered version of english.. the way they write it remember me cyriilic.. maybe english writed with cyrilic chars? lol
