How often does magic get in the way of friend ship?

we've had it happen before,

 

sonic rainboom we're the wings raritty got kinda ended up sabotaging the oringal intent  to help rainbow.

and than with the bats and having flutter shy got horribly mutated.

I for one like seeing magic with draw backs,

 

Which is exactly the sorta thing the elements should have had.

You do have some examples of that, but the Elements of Harmony at times can't exactly have drawbacks unless they have a weakness. It could get in the way if it is portrayed as a road block in the way of their friendship.

 

You never know what to expect in magic, when it corrupts you and turns you against your best friend it can show how corruption can be unpredictable in the terms of magic.

yes I do like seeing magic with side effects. Because that's what magic is. Wild and unpredictable. However, equestrian has magic down to a science, reducing the unpredictability a bit.

Magic can be fatiguing if the complexity is to high for the unicorn in question.

 

Sombra shows us that magic can be corruptive.

 

Equestria does have magic that is powered by fear, hate and/or is parasitic in nature (the changlings).

 

Magic can mutate people into other creatures. plenty of examples
