"No! He tried to save us! Work that our bodyguard Steel should have done! He got angry at something, and then did this thing and some monster came and lit everything on fire! It could have hurt us! And why? Because of Steel! And then, instead of guarding us, he went to drink some "adult" cider! I want Wanderlust to protect us! Because he does a better job!" Her hooves started flaring up.

(This hydra would have been so much harder of a fight for anyone who wasn't Embers and his sun shard to seal the wounds :P )

The hydra squealed in pain as another of its heads came loose and tumbled into the swampy waters. The three remaining heads stared at the two stumpy necks in confusion, usually when a head was lost two would take it's place and it didn't understand why these necks were not following suit. The three heads were dizzy with pain but all three now resumed attacking. Now with a more sluggish uncertain pace, as it was unsure now if it would win this fight and it was losing brain power as well.

******************

Luna felt like she was going to cry as Steel's sentence trailed away, but she could still feel him there even if it was weakly. That gave her some relief, if he lost consciousness and was still there he might have stabilized, she prayed this was the case.

However where she had thought confronting the vagabond would make her feel better, instead it had only opened up a whole different can of worms. She had thought that her girls would be more likely to listen to her and not argue considering how close she had been to being gone forever. She should have known better, the little fillies had always had a mind of their own. Especially Willow, she thought, as she had entered into the more rebellious years where young mares thought they knew everything and their parents obviously couldn't relate. But Luna knew in this case that she was right and wouldn't let the girls think that this magic the vagabond was using was acceptable.

She looked sternly at Willow, "No. I had a spell so I could keep an eye on you through Steel. The vagabond was already drinking cider with Embers before Steel even arrived. And you and melody have not been accepting of Steel, because of his past! A past that was under my orders, you both were down right mean to him, when all he was trying to do was watch over you for me." She took a breath before continuing to lecture the girls, "Steel controls that demon in him, if never tried to attack you, only the vagabond and that was because Steel saw him as a challenge and threat to my authority in the group! Steel can control his demon, unlike the vagabond's magic that will eventually control him! All Wytches end up controlled by nature, puppets of the magic they drew on, they all eventually turn into mindless animals! They are that timberwolves once were! A particularly strong coven of three Wytches were turned into the hydra of froggy bottom bogg when they fought starswirl the bearded! They all become monsters and I don't want something like that taking care of my daughters. He will be overwhelmed by the magic and then you'll be glad Steel will be there to stop him!"

Wanderlust paled at all this information, "I'll become a monster?" he asked, he had heard the rumors of how dangerous it was but never like that. "What if I stop what if I don't use it again?"

Luna was somewhat taken back by this, she had assumed he was more regular user of Wytch magic given how he had been using it. Her voice was more forgiving and sorrowful, "it's addictive magic. You'll find a reason that you 'need' to use it again and then again. Eventually you'll lose yourself to it, wytches always do."

"Fine! Maybe you are right! Maybe Steel is better! But why, why is Wanderlust such a vagabond? He did that to protect us! Its the first time I've ever seen him use that magic! I saw you give him an angry look when we came here. I didn't understand why! But then I figured out that I disappeared, and you were worried. What about when we were gone and Steel and Wanderlust were drinking cider? Shouldn't you have told Steel to do something? Weren't you worried?"

Willow shrieked and hid behind Luna. Melody took one look and burst into tears, even though she was much to tired.

《What... ha-a-a-appened!?》 She wailed. Willow cowered at the sight of the blood-stained ponies. "He tried to kill himself!" She whimpered, at the sight of his soiled dagger. 《Waaaaaah!》

Runedawn was stuck in a battle in his mind while another one was fought outside of it... All the things that had happened to Runedawn were now being added up and taking it's toll. His nightmares of the torture and pain in the crystal empire, the menories of the days before the disaster taunting him, the screams of his ancestors resonating in his dreams. He was mentally weak and crying. Why had all this happened. He couldn't even wake himself up anymore, that was how weak he was.

Then, the worst thing imaginable happened. Ironhearted awoke because of the weakness in Runedawns mind, that had surpressed him at first. Runedawn was now so weak that Ironhearted's ripped soul could fight him.

The darkness around Runedawn was filled with eyes. The sound of laughing ponies was screeching at his ears. The cold chains on his hooves, and the feeling of daggers puncturing his skin everywhere. The distant noise of his screaming ancestors amplified the horror of his nightmare... But then it suddendly stopped. He could feel another being awake inside him. Another soul in this body, sharing it's brain. "No..." Runedawn thought.

"Did you really think that I would have ever let you go... Do you think I will ever set you free Runedawn?" A voice cackled in his mind, and it stung him painfully. "LEAVE ME BE IRONHEAR-" he was interrupted by another stinging laugh. "If you do, I am sad to say that it simply isn't so... You will NEVER get away from me!" Ironhearted boomed violently in his... Their head. It hurt, and slowly started to surpress Runedawn, locking him away in a smaller corner of his... Their... Ironhearted's mind. But Runedawn wasn't having any of it. He got himself together and struck back!

A battle was going on in runedawns mind, and he desperately needed help to win it...

How would you walk, how would you talk if you thought: "Three percent of the population likes classical music, if only we could get it up to four percent we'd be back in business and all our problems would be over." How would you walk, how would you talk if you thought: "Everybody loves classical music! They just haven't found out about it yet!" It's an entirely different world. It's what you make of it that counts.

I found an easy way to find out if you've inspired someone. If their eyes are shining, you know you're doing it!

Embers kept on jumping, trying to find another time to attack. He need one of them to stumble, he could take 2, even though that the 3rd one was going more slowly, he had no chances to attack unless it hit a tree, or something he could make it stop "Oy, 3head! Why dont you talk to me? We make a good deal, you see, yeah!"

Sapphire sighed and walked outside

Luna moved to Steel and nuzzled him, "thank you Grell. Put him down here, we can take sometime to rest."

She turn back to Willow, "You asked before if I was worried, of course I was worried! But I have spells throughout the castle, I knew you both were at the sun shard." She gestured at Steel, "Steel was to keep an eye on you, but I know I need to give you both room to grow up! We both know I can't protect you forever. The world isn't kind right now and you both are having to grow up so fast it's not fair I know, but you are facing such darkness, I still need to let you both grow when I can."

She was starting to cry, the girls meant so much to her and she only wanted them safe, especially with how close she had come to dying. She didn't want to leave them in the hooves of somepony she didn't trust, but she hated fighting Willow like this, it made her heart hurt so much.

"You want to know what makes him such a vagabond?! Why I don't like him? Why he'll never be half the stallion that Steel is?!" She gestured at the unconscious stallion, "Steel was forced from his family when he was young he lost them but he chose to move beyond it to be strong to serve Equestria. He lives and dies by his word and his honor! He'd die just because he thought he failed me!"

She then whirled turning toward wanderlust and yelling at him, "But I know you Wanderlust, I recognized who you were. You have no honor. You left your caring loving family, a wealthy noble family of Manehatten, and you didn't even say goodbye to them. You abandoned them and never even let them know what happened to you. They searched for you, they never forgot about you but you didn't care about them! You left your family, you abandoned Equestria." Luna was fuming now, "And you dare to think you can help raise my daughters?! When you have no loyalty to your country?! No love for your own family?! The firestorm came and they are gone now, you know that? They died never knowing what happened to you. How could I trust my girls to someone like you? To someone who abandoned everything for his own selfish 'wanderlust'," she said his name like it was a curse word. "On top of that you've become a Wytch, even if you don't abandon them you'll only end up hurting them one way or another."

Luna's words cut through Wanderlust's heart like a knife. She was right, he hadn't thought of his family when he left and he had wanted to come home but it was too late now and he would never see them again and never be able to make it up to them. Wanderlust felt like he had been sucker punched, his gut was empty and his heart ached, he couldn't keep walking. They had reached the surface and he just stood there hurting.

He leaned back and nuzzled Melody as Luna glared at him, he shifted her off setting her on the ground gently and turned to Willow, "I-I ne-need sometime alone, I'll be b-back." He tried to smile at her but it hurt to much, his eyes were tearing up.

Luna snorted at him, "you're just going to prove me right? You're just going to run away?" She was haughty and rebuking in her voice.

He looked at her, but couldn't bare to meet the former princesses accusing eyes, "I never said you were wrong princess." He turned to gallop away from them before the tears could start to fall from his face.

"Mom... please stop... Wanderlust is my friend. I don't care if he is dishonorable or a Wytch. Just... stop. I don't care anymore. I don't want to make you sadder." She sadly looked at Wanderlust, who's was running away. Melody rushed over to Willow and cried into her mane. Steel was lying, limp, in the cave. His bloody dagger glinted. "Why does there need to be so much fighting? I remember when Steel used to be all lovey-dovey and soft with Star Struck, but now everypony wants to cut something's head off! I don't see, where is the honor in that?"

《Why can't it be normal anymore?》Melody sobbed into Willow's mane. Willow's eyelids drooped. She hadn't noticed how tired she was.

The hydra head didn't want to talk, it didn't know how to anymore but it could tell when it was being mocked and it didn't like it. However that didn't help it as the mocking did make it stop attacking to roar angrily at Embers; the two other heads tried to use this as a distraction striking at the same time one from Embers left the other form his right, they wanted to meet in the middle and tear him in half.

******************************

Luna let Wanderlust run off, she had no respect for him. She knew her daughters liked the vagabond but she would not forgive him easily, she had been close to his family and knew how much his disappearance had hurt them, she couldn't help but see all his bad qualities and overlook the good in him. She move over to Steel protectively and laid down next to him wishing her magic could restore him; she looked to her girls feeling distant from them and hoped they would come lay down next to her. She wanted them to see the good in Steel, that they could come to respect and like him, then maybe they could forget the vagabond and it wouldn't hie them as much when he failed or left them. She knew he would eventually, just as she knew that once they accepted Steel he would never fail them or leave them.

Luna sighed, "girls come here lay down. I'm sorry I don't like Wanderlust, you know I just want you both safe and I don't trust him. I'll let him be from now on. I said what I needed to say to him, what needed to be said for the family he left behind. You're both right, we need to be kinder to each other. I'll try to be kinder to the vagabond if you both try to be kinder to Steel. We'll get everything back to normal, it might take some time before things are right again but I promise we'll fix it, we'll make it right and happy again."

Willow couldn't move anymore. She longed to sit next to Luna, but she couldn't. Instead, she stroked Melody's mane.

She wondered. She looked at her empty flank. She wondered, what could Melody's cutie mark be? Something to do with plants, really. Melody had been even closer to wildlife than she was. She traveled out to the gardens at nighrtand checked on all her beautiful flowers. He eyelids closed furthers as she thought of all the wonderful possibilities. A rose? A musical note? She had the voice of an angel. A rose shaped like a musical note?

Melody had silenced. She asleep as well. She was dreaming about the stars, where Celestia was. Where their parents were. How she ached to be up there with them. To eternally explore the infinite beauty, the serenity, the perfection.

(Starbound did you see what Luna said? I added it as an edit :P so wanted to be sure you saw it)

Luna saw that Melody had fallen asleep and that Willow had basically collapsed so she got up and walked over to them. She was a proud pony but she loved her daughters far more than her pride. She went to lay just between them so that all three of there heads would touch snouts if they lean together, she missed her wings, wanting them back if only to lay them over her daughters in a protective blanket. She saw Steel flare into fire and then extinguish himself, she touched his mind mentally and used some magic to send peace and reassurance to him. Then she floated him over closer to them, she didn't move him into the snuggle she had with her daughters, she wouldn't force them to like Steel but she would do what she could to help both sides become friends. Warm and more comfortable between her little fillies than she had been in what seemed like forever her eyes started to close.

"I'm sorry, Mom. I shouldn't have gotten mad, either." She wrapped up Melody and as much of Luna as she could and fell asleep to the steady rhythm of her sister's breathing.

For Melody, everything was black. One by one, stars appeared and she was standing in space. <Welcome, little one. I see you have found us.> 《What? Who is there?》A milky blob of light appeared in front of her. <I, am but a lowly spirit travelling the cosmos. And I have come to enlighten you. Give you peace. Take you on a tour of the Universe, as you may. > 《Really?》<Yes, little Melody. Now follow me. >

Embers ducked just in time, and he got out "Ooooh, scary, arnt we?" He laughed as he ran to the side, grabbing a stick and looked at the head that wasnt attacking "Hey dingo brain!" He laughed and chucked the stick at the things head, then started running at it as he went, pulling out his sword

Wanderlust stumbled down the mountainside, his tears blinded him and he kept tripping and falling. At one point he tumbled into what must have been a small ravine and rolled and bounced several times before coming to a stop, his saddlebag was even shaken loose. But he didn't care about it, he didn't even feel the pain, he was hurting too much inside. Everything Luna had said was true and that was why it hurt even more. Earlier Melody had helped restore some of his memory, but only the most important memories had returned and he realized none of them were of his family. He remember Galena and Willow and Melody more than the ponies that had raised him, what did that say about him? What kind of colt was he? Luna was right, he couldn't be a good one. Maybe it was better that he wandered off, no good could come from him, even when he had loved Galena and been loyal to her he couldn't save her.

He felt so empty and useless, he did it with out thinking he began to sing gently reaching out to connect with nature. He just wanted to feel connected again to feel something, to not feel weak and powerless but powerful and strong. Luna's warnings about nature magic being addictive were forgotten. At that moment he hated himself and would be happy to be swept away and overwhelmed by the chorus of life, but before he could finish the song and connect to nature he slipped again slamming his head into a rock face and knocked himself unconscious. He didn't get back up and simply fell into a deep and fit full sleep. His dreams were all about far away lands and the beautiful allure of nature but wherever he went ponies with faces he couldn't quite remember and names that were on the tip of his tongue but couldn't be recalled stared accusingly at him.

*************************************

The two hydra heads collided painfully with each other as Embers dodged out of the way. The stick he had thrown hit the third head right in the snout and it charged at him its mouth wide and determined to swallow this annoying snack whole. It's slimy foul tooth filled maw looked over him and raced forward menacingly.

Embers laughed as the two heads slamed into each other, now he had a chance. As the 3rd head came, he could see a mad rage in its eyes. He got next to a tree, waiting for it to come after him, knowing he would have to time this just right if he didint want to be come mashed pony

Melody slept fitfully, tossing and turning, mumbling, and breathing ragged breaths. At one point she accidentally hit Willow in the nose, waking her up. "Yes... Melody? I'm awake. Melody? Never mind."

Willow peeked at Steel, and hid again. "Why did you do that? That knife is too dangerous. One day you will hurt somepony other than yourself." She carefully picked it up with her magic and dropped it further away from Steel. "There. But don't get mad when you wake up." Melody stirred behind her. "Melody?" Willow shook her gently. "Melody?" She shook her harder. "Melody!?" She nudged Luna. "Mom? Mom? Melody won't wake up! And she isn't breathing right either!"

The hydra never hestiated, it was too angry now and didn't even realize that there was a tree behind the pony. The two other heads were to dazed from their collision to add any extra perpesective to help it. It struck forward with such force that if it missed it would bury it's snout deep in the wood if not shattering the tree completely. The other two heads merely watched as the stars slowly cleared from their sight.

************************************

Luna blinked the sleep out of her eyes and but wasn't fully awakened from Willow's gentle prodding, "huh, just five more minutes Willow, the moon can rise five minutes late tonight. Just five more minutes." She rolled over snuggling more into Melody for warmth.

********************************

Wanderlust's dreams had turned even darker, diamond dogs hunted him through an endless jungle; he could hear Galena calling out to him from far in the distance, always far in the distance no matter how long he ran toward her voice it never got closer; the dogs just kept coming at him and there were other ponies but he couldn't remember their names and he knew they would not help him if he did not say their names, instead they looked at him in disgust; he began to realize why the more he fought the dogs the more of a monster he become starting to morph into some terrifying jungle creature; but that didn't matter to him, with the creatures power he could kill the dogs, he could kill all the dogs it was only during a never ending against wave after wave of dogs that he realized he couldn't hear Galena anymore, she had become lost to him; the monster him howled in rage fighting as never before; it was then that the thing made of ice came, it was even more monstrous than him and froze him in place, moving to stare into Wanderlust's eyes grinning as the dogs came forward with picks and saws and start to slowly break Wanderlust apart, to mine his very body and soul. On the cold stone Wanderlust tossed and turned.

"Mom!? Mom, wake up! Something is wrong with Melody!" Melody took a few deep, gasping breaths, and then continued to her ragged breathing. Willow felt her forehead. It was mysteriously cold. "Mom, please wake up! Something is wrong with Melody!" She continued to shake Luna out of her stupor. (Drowsiness)
