Geoff smiled and reached out to touch the armor. A sensation went up his body, but nothing happened. He held the armor.

 

'That...was even easier.' He said, spinning the helmet.

 

A loud crash was heard and the pillar where the armor had been rested on fell through the floor. Then a small area around it. Geoff jumped back as where he had been fell.

 

'WE HAVE A PROBLEM.'

The group began to run from the collapsing tunnel. The floor was falling faster than they could run from it. But through some miracle, they had survived and jumped through the door.

"Ha ha! That was like some kind of action movie."
"Is everypony all right?"
"We are Fine, Tia. You?"
"Unscathed. Come, let us depart. The group had made it out to the town square. Something felt off though, but they didn't mind it. They began their walk out of town and were almost to the train station until they saw a light up ahead. What was coming was not the train station, but the entrance to the town once more.

Geoff looked around confused. 'We are back where we started. How did that...' He began.

 

'Aaron, does that mask have an on/off switch? You may have left it on...' Geoff said as he walked into the 'town' once more. It was an exact copy. At the end, he only saw it repeat. He laughed.

 

'Great. Add Inception to the cliche list.'

"This isn't me. Believe me I want to get out of here as well, so we can get on to the next artifact. But this... doesn't seem like me."

They began to look around the town. Something was off. Yet some of them felt some kind of eeriness about it. More so than usual.

"Tia. Lets get out of here."
Just then. The lights began to flicker off. Beginning at the end and slowly shutting off. One after the other until they reached the town square. And with a small flicker. It was completely dark.

Geoff felt around for anything. There was nothing there.

 

'Hello?' He said. No response.

 

'Hey guys!'

 

He moved around carefully. 'Luna? Aaron? Celestia?' He said, blindly moving around. He looked down at the armor. That was it. Everything screwed with you. This was the armor's version.

Celestia and Luna's horns started to glow. illuminating the town around them. Luna began to scan the area for her friend. He had wondered off.
"Geoff! Are you there?"

They kept close to each other and looked around for anything. Including Geoff. They made the light extra bright.

Geoff could see a light. 'Hey, I'm over here!' He said. No response. That's when he realized something.

 

The armor could change him into anything. He most likely changed into something invisible.

 

He began to panic. He didn't know at all how the armor works. He saw a patch of clear dirt and began to write a message in it.

 

'GEOFF HERE'

They heard Geoffs voice and began to run to him. Luna was the first to spot him. She ran towards him and embraced him.
"Oh Geoff. It is so good to see you safe. Please, do not leave my side."

Luna was relieved to see her new colt friend okay. Aaron was looking around with Celestia.

Geoff turned around to see Luna. He let out a sigh of relief. He was ok. He hugged Luna.

 

'I won't.' He said with a smile. He looked around.

 

'What have we found out, if anything? Is it just a loop, or is there a way around?' He asked, noticing Celestia and Aaron searching around.

"We don't know. However, the armor should not be responsible. It only effects the wearer and only the wearer. This... this seems like Aaron's mask."
_{"But its not!"}

"What it actually is, I can not tell you. But we need to stay together for now."

Geoff nodded. 'It is probably his mask...' He mused as he searched them over.

 

'Wait, weren't they all made by the same per-pony? They might be linked. Two near each other make a defense or something.' He suggested, holding his armor out to Aaron's mask. It did seem likely that a defense measure would be activated.

"Not exactly. The items were made by star swirl. But were given to his closest students and colleges. They could be defenses from their dead masters. Trying to keep grave robbers away or thieves for that matter. These artifacts are very powerful and valuable."

Geoff sighed. 'So there is only one way to solve this. Do something with the mask.' He said solemnly.

 

'Is there anything else that might work? Aaron? Luna? Celestia?' He said, switching his view between the three. 'There has to be a way to turn off the mask or something.'

They all looked around and began to think.  Tia was the first to break the silence.

"I say we hold up in one of the houses and think of our next actions. It could be dangerous to be out here in the dark."
"Agreed. We need to find shelter from the shadows."

They opened the door to a house and entered. Their they could try and find a way out of this town.

Geoff nodded and flowed then into the house. It was barely lit. He say down in a creaky chair. 'So what now? We know that one of the artifacts is causing this, but which?' He said as he began to think. Something came to mind. 'This armor creates allusions. Just like the mask, but it could be anything. What if it just duplicated the city?'

[Mr. Critical 434]

"No Geoff. It changes your physical appearance. Morphing your body. Its no illusion."
Luna finished her explanation. They began to think. This was not because of the items. Something else was at play here. Celestia found some candles. She brought them over so she could save her energies.

"We know its not the items," Aaron began. "Thus it must be something else. Guys, lets search this house. We won't be going anywhere for now."
Little did they know, they were, not watched, but stalked by something. Something terrifying.

Geoff got up and moved into what he assumed was the bedroom. It was small, with what looked like a bed frame in the corner. A small wooden dresser sat next to it. He moved over to it and opened it. A small slip of paper was inside. He pulled it out and held it up to the candle he had brought. It wasn't a map, but a line. Directions probably. But to where? He slipped it into his pocket and began to check the other rooms.

Aaron and Tia were looking through the small house. Aaron went into a small bedroom. It seemed to belong to a filly. He was searching it and found a small diary. He picked it up and went back to meeting place. It was the only thing that could help them find out of what's going on.

Geoff passed where Celestia was and found Aaron holding a small rectangle. Geoff entered the room and looked over his shoulder. He could make out nothing on the cover.

 

'What is it? What was this room?' He asked, looking around. It reminded him of a child's room. That made sense. Of course a child would have some books laying around. He turned back to Aaron. 'What is it?'

Aaron sat down on the near the candles.

"Its a diary. Something should be in it?"

Aaron began to flip through the pages. looking for the something of use. And he found it. The final entry.

 

Dear Diary. The town's residence has all but gone. I know they couldn't have left. None of us can leave. It makes sure of that.

The lights will be going off soon and I fear for my family. We are the last of the ponies who remain. We don't know if anypony else is out there. We dare not venture out to see. But if I am to die this night and somepony does find this diary. I have one form of advice for that unfortunate ponies. Listen for the music.

Geoff looked at it puzzled.

 

'Music? What music? I haven't heard anything...actually, I did!' He said, remembering the faint sound.

 

'When we were coming in I heard a tune...I don't know the name, but I did! Just barely. I dismissed it as something that was playing in my head. Game music often does that after I stop listening to it.'

Aaron placed the diary down. That was the last entry.

"So. What shall we do?"
"What else, Aaron. We find a way out of here. That is our main priority."
"Agreed, Tia. Geoff, Do you have any plans or tricks up your sleeve? Anything at all."
Aaron could see fear in their eyes. This was odd. They were all powerful beings of a land. And they were terrified.

Geoff nodded. 'No. I can't think of anything right now. But we're going to get out. We made it out last time , let's just hope our luck holds.' He said as he grabbed the diary. He looked around for anywhere to keep it but couldn't. He threw it back down and looked around the group. Everyone was on edge. 'Ok. Step one, music. I'm swore I heard music in the towns behind us.'

"And what prey tell, shall we do with this knowledge?"
Luna asked. She was on edge and wanted out of this place. They all did. Aaron was the next to speak.

"Alright, then what. We lull this thing that's out there to sleep? Cause after reading that, I ain't going out there."

"Would you do it for a damsel in distress."
"... maybe."

Geoff looked between the group. 'Fine. I'll go. I heard the music, and I have the armor. I'm the obvious choice.' He suggested as he looked between them. 'Aaron, grab the diary. I'll probably need that when I go out.' He said, motioning towards where he had thrown it.
