Olden Times and internet Forums

I just had a pleasent (but rather cringe-worthy) trek through the olden days of my internet career. An amazing little site known as TheWayBackMachine let me look through the old and now disbanded Nsider forums, which I still miss dearly.

It later led me back to the forum I defaulted to when Nsider finally got killed off: NSFCD. And thank god I never deleted any of the PM's I got. I had a wonderful sense of nostalgia as I reread PMs from various friends, such as Wiiman600 and ChaosEmeralds and HeroOfTimeO0. All of them missed.

And then I took a look at the various posts I made through the years. I found my old sigs! Those were great. I found some rather stupid stuff, found epic threads... it was overall a great journey.

So I made this thread to gather stories about your younger years on the Internet. The epic times, the strange times. We've all had them! Come and be nostalgic with us, and recount tales of yesteryear!

I suppose I ought to start:

When Nsider crashed, with pretty much no warning, everyone scrambled to pick up the pieces. In the wake of it all, there were two forums that seemed far more active than the othjers: New Nsider and Nsider 2. The forum I was on, later to be merged with FCD forums and renamed NSFCD, was New Nsider, admined by the trio of Silverhawk, Snorkle and JMV. And all was well.

However, sometime in 2008 (The forum came up in September of 07), the site mysteriously stopped functioning! We had lost our domain! Silverhawk scrambled to put the forum back to how it was, with the help of JMV, but on a different domain with a different host. Had Silver not been diligent (He was young, so that was every bit a possability), we could have lost the site for good.

So then what happened? Why did the site do that out of nowhere? Turns out, the co-admin Snorkle had sold our domain to a guy named EJ Raven (of Nsider 2, our pseudo-rivals) for the sum of $1000 or so! Silver was understandably pissed, banned him from the site, stripped his adminship away, and renamed him "Judas", and made the forum better than ever from then on.

EDIT: the announcement thread of that incident. It sounds much more relaxed than it was at the time.

Ah, man. Back when I was 11-13 I was on Gaia a lot. I was participating in all sorts of show/game RPs, and looking back I was...well, better than I expected at it, considering my age. I find it funny seeing that I was a better writer than a lot of older teenagers and even some adults on that site.

I wish I could find my old signatures, but I think I saved them on a laptop which got all the stuff cleared from it. A shame, I actually did some pretty good stuff learning to use photoshop, and I've totally forgotten that skill now. If I had the .psds I bet it'd do a lot do refresh my memory.

Well I never used forums, but when I was 11 an under, I played Games like Webkinz, and Roblox.

I remember how many friends I had on Roblox, but I stopped playing because every time I go to a game I always run into some jerk, or get asked out by Internet whores ^_^ pretty much all the time I played I had a weird time.

Hah! I remember Roblox! I loved that game, especially the Hide and Seek servers. I've always wished there were some real, fully featured hide and seek-based games because of the fun I had there. I swear you could make a fantastic commercial game around it. Though I guess it might not sell.

I used that to look at moonromance.net, when the forum was alive. I totally forgot half the people I knew from there lol. Shame there wasn't much to see other then thread titles and sub-forums.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.
