Sittin' out here on the hood of this truck

Yes, there is a pony in this even though the title doesn't say anything about them.

I got the idea for this from a country song, Gary Allan's "Watching Airplanes" The line that got me to do this was "Sittin' out here on the hood of this truck lookin' up at a caramel covered sunset sky" and since I cannot draw people we see Rainbow Dash chillin' on the hood.

I actually drew my truck in there, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4x4. The background was pretty much made up as I went, originally it was just going to be Rainbow Dash on the hood of the truck but then I decided to step it up.

That is quite a beautiful picture, Intimidator. I love the amount of detail put into it - all the littlest features of the truck, the blades of grass, the tire hanging from the tree, and the subtle tire tracks on the dirt path. The style is also quite charming, though I'd say that the truck looks noticeably more realistic than the rest of the picture. Perhaps this is due to the lighter lines used on the truck in comparison to the dark outlines of the background objects and Rainbow Dash?

 

The perspective and angle of the truck against the backdrop doesn't look quite right, either; it's a bit difficult to determine exactly where the image's vanishing point is, and Rainbow Dash seems to have a vanishing point all her own (the proportion of her head to her body differs from the proportion of the truck's windshield to the grill).

 

Lastly, the lower part of Rainbow Dash's body isn't quite centred with the truck's hood. It's a nitpick, really, but it looks almost as if she is lying on the hood diagonally as a result.

 

I'm hardly an artist myself, and your picture is loads better than anything I could accomplish. But these are just a few things I picked up on where I think you could improve in future drawings.

The title of the thread caught my eye because it sounded like something Yelawolf would say (southern rapper). Anyways it's a great piece of work; scaled nicely, good perspective drawing, and shading.

Thank you for commenting and for the suggestions and tips! I understand what you are saying about the truck looking more realistic than the rest of the drawing, probably because I drew the truck out first and then added the buildings and trees around in the background. It was also one of the last things I double-outlined with the pencil.

Rainbow Dash was one of the last things added to the drawing after I lined it all out, the biggest reason that she isn't centered is because I wanted to make sure her tail wasn't covering the Chevrolet Bowtie, (kind of a dumb reason, but i'm a Chevy fan too).

I think I may have drawn Rainbow Dash too large for the truck because like you pointed out, her head isn't proportioned with the windshield correctly.

I appreciate your comment and your suggestions to improve on future drawings it was very considerate of you! I hope to have more drawings soon, one thing I like to do is try to draw stuff that hasn't been done before but If I can't do that, I'll at least try my best to make it the best I can.

Wow, you draw inanimate objects very well... I always have trouble doing that for some reason.

 

Besides that, I think it is a really good drawing, drawings with backgrounds are usually those which become more popular or eye-catching.
