Thread Section For 18+ Users

I have noticed that this forum does allow mature related talk but to an extent. One cannont bring up NSFW content though. I am not talking extreme NSFW material but for example just talking about what is your favorite NSFW artist or fanfic.

 

I have noticed some others users have had this idea as well.

 

My idea is to create a thread section that is not viewable to guests and is only viewable for registered users 18+ based on their birth date. One can also change their settings whether mature content can be viewed similar to what fimfiction does.

 

Now I am not requesting for extreme content to be allowed or create a section for NSFW images but rather a mature section that allows 18+ users to discuss their favorite NSFW artist or fanfic.

 

I contacted a mod before I made a thread requesting if I can make such a thread even if I just included the title of the fanfic for discussion. Due to the rules I was told I cannot create a thread discussing the fanfiction.

 

So I come here making a suggestion for the forum as I am sure others feel the same way.

 

Also NSFW does not have to be sexual it can also include allowing users to post videos of horror clips, violent video games or creepy pasta videos that include things that would not be allowed for someone under 18.

 

I hope this idea will be considered and eventually implemented into the forum.

While I agree in principle, I don't know if there would be enough traffic to justify adding another section of the site. I haven't seen "mature" fanfics be mentioned all that much in recent months (now that I think about it, aren't the bigger Fallout: Equestria stories like Project Horizons fairly mature and yet we have roleplays about them). If there was some story that a person really wanted to share, they could just as easily PM it or contact friends and other interested parties using off-site methods.

 

Again, agree in principle, disagree in need.

It's been brought up numerous times, and there was once even an idea to make a Poniverse site for the content, which also fell through. I unfortunately do not see us creating mature content boards, threads, forums or anything related anytime soon.

Rock and role would be allowed. Sex and drugs is a big no.

 

I have yet to find a MLP based forum that is popular as MLP forums that allows such content despite many of its users are adults anyway.

 

Cant argue with the mods, rules are rules.

There are over 20k members on this forum, and I think if enough request it, it might happen, but that's a big maybe.

 

I for one would love to see it happen. I have this huge urge to create a thread just discussing one of my favorite NSFW fanfictions without going to much into detail but sadly I wont be able to. I am not going to risk my account and get in trouble with the mods.

 

Luckily I asked before I made the thread. Since the answer was no, I created this thread so others can voice their opinions and maybe help change the poniverse staff's mind.

Just from the perspective of a neutral observer, there are a myriad of sites with boards that have no rules whatsoever about content. It seems that the people here are here to get away from a lot of what that brings into the fandom.

 

It's nice here. People feel comfortable with what they're looking at. One of the main knocks on this fandom seems to have been that we're all a bunch of weirdos, who have some sort of sexual deviancy. to start posting stuff that would add to their arsenal doesn't seem like a good idea imo.

Of course there are a bunch of sites like 4chan and other boards that are all over the place. I have yet to find a popular MLP based board that allows such stuff.

 

And not just an image board like derpyboru, I mean a site that is forum based, surrounds MLP and is quite popular just like this one.

 

I really enjoy this forum so much so I am not going to complain and put down the forum over this issue.

 

But a suggestion cant hurt, all I believe allowing an 18+ forum would allow is more freedom and enhance the site. But thats just my opinion.

 

Although I admire the fact that there is a thread section for ideas and suggestions on this forum so we can discuss our ideas that would make the site better.

No, no, no, it's way too easy to lie about your age on the internet. A different site I know about has a much better method: donate to the website or subscribe. This is not something minors can do without adult supervision and I highly doubt that someone's parents are going to agree to let their underage son/daughter see NSFW pony content. You know, since it isn't awkward enough for one to tell their parents that they're a brony, let alone seeing NSFW content of them. So yeah... at least try to think things through a little further or at least bring up questions about them. Even I would say that this method could be susceptible to being bypassed. How easy is it to pay for something on the internet under someone else's name?

 

As for what I think about the idea in general......

Well, best this doesn't get advertised. Guests and members who don't donate shouldn't even see that there is an 18+ section because that could be sending the wrong message. Another point of concern for me is the type of people that might attract. It's not hard for me to see that some people would end up joining primarily for the 18+ sections. That in itself might not be a bad thing but think about it... Someone who would not have joined had there not been 18+ sections? Not the sociable kind I would say and they would be sure to seep into the SFW sections too. It's not going to take many of those types to make a lot of people uncomfortable.

 

I'm not saying that cloppers aren't sociable. I'm well aware that there are cloppers here and that they are reasonable people. It's just that they, just like the all of us here, have come to stay here and have nestled into the community just fine without there being any NSFW pony material in sight. That's not something I would expect from someone who comes barging in with a mentality of "making friends and being part of the community? **** that, I'm here for the porn!" They can be very obnoxious people and whether or not they're being genuine about it or not isn't relevant.

 

EDIT: Something I forgot to mention. If we're going to allow for 18+ sections with NSFW content, you (because I'm not going to be part of it) would do well to be prepared for more controversy. The types of of NSFW material (and I'm only referring to visual art here) is mindbogglingly diverse. Even if interspecies or adult-&-minor relationships are made against the rules, there will still be plenty people are likely going to fight over, I guarantee it.

The type of thread section I would want is just the discussion of mature rated fimfictions or favorite artists. Since there is plenty of NSFW images on the internet it would not be necessary to have a forum thread having such content posted. But yes I can understand, there would be many who would argue some even more taboo artwork should be allowed even if it was banned so I see where you are coming from.

I don't see a real problem with it, since it's kind of restricting 18+ members to speak -17 discussions, but I totally respect the decision of a "no". ^^

As much as I wouldn't mind this at all I understand and respect why staff her dosen't want to do it, 18+ is not impossible but is quite difficult to enforce as numerous users will lie about their age. As a matter of fact in this one NSFW site I am a member this actually happens all the time, it is the most common reason why users are banned. Granted the users are banned until their 18 birthday instead of forever, but still. Then there is the reputation of all bronies being cloppers which while there are a lot more than are willing to admit to this we know is absolute BS which I think is another one of the reasons why I think the staff is reluctant to do this. I personally could care less as idiots will think this no matter what, but this isn't my decision to make.

 

I know you are suggesting that we talk about things like our favorite NSFW artists and what have you but even that can go in some rather explicit directions and their is a very high probably that people will post links to said fics as well as pics. And you said you are not advocating be allowed to post "extreme content" the problem with that of course is that people have different ideas as to what "extreme content" is. What you mentioned about horror clips and violent video games would be viewed by many as "extreme content". I have even noticed some inconsistencies among the staff about what they consider "borderline NSFW content". There was a thread a while back asking which pony had the best plot and some pics including mine of Applejack were removed while there was this Most Attractive Pony tournament a year ago with pics that I and a few others have posted that are just as suggestive and most of them were left alone.

This has been suggested before. I don't have much to say on this matter other than we won't be adding one. MLP Forums has always endeavored to be SFW, which hasn't and will never change. One reason people come to this place is for the simple fact that we don't host that sort of material. Even some of the conventions we've partnered with have cited that as something they appreciate. There's also the obvious problem of people being able to effortlessly circumvent such an age limitation. Furthermore, even if you place restrictions on the type of content that is permissible in that section, the very nature of the board will cause them to be frequently violated.

 

Regardless of one's personal opinions on the matters of clop, gore, or what have you, many bronies are not into that sort of thing, and there are more than enough forums and image boards out there to get your fix. We aren't going to be one of them though.
