This is directed at everyone. Steam included, despite some of Gaben's fabulous deals. When a new game comes out, and it's digitally available...It should be cheaper. Because there's no cost of packaging nor shipping for a digital copy, all digital content should cost the price of the software plus a bit to make a profit on.It shouldn't cost the same as a physical copy that you buy in the store. Sometimes, the digital copy is actually MORE than what it'd be to go out and buy the physical copy.

 

The $60 you see for a Video game at your EB Games or Gamestop, that price is taking into account the cost of packaging, the cost of shipping and the cost of making the discs and writing the software to the disc.That all takes time and effort. Where as digital stuff, nothing of that exists. all your'e using is your bandwidth.

 

Though the downside to digital downloads is you can't exchange it or give it away or sell it...it's locked to your account. And some people have a bandwidth cap. 

 

So it depends, digital and physical have both their pros and cons.

Digitally-distributed games should be discounted. You do not need any additional packaging or anything so what's the point in the extra $20? Besides, how many games these days are actually worth $60?

At least you don't have to deal with the $60 = 60€ bullshit. That's 27% more expensive for Europeans so it's not all that bad for you.

Back on topic though, publishers are greedy and they will do anything to get a few extra bucks from every sale. People don't seem to care too much since they still buy the games so the publishers have no reason to change the prices.

I've given up on paying the full price for the big $60 releases. I can wait for Gaben's glorious sales. It's a simple solution.
