Courageous Thunder Dash

@,

The filly fumbled the fork in her hoof upon hearing that, letting the utensil clatter onto the table; causing herself to cringe nervously at the sound. Then she looked back up at him with wide eyes and stared, apparently uncertain on how to react to what he had asked. It seemed to have come out of the blue.

Then she stared down at her plate, suddenly not sure that she was so hungry anymore. She slowly picked up the fork she had previously dropped onto the table, and twiddled it anxiously between her hooves. Again, she felt conflicted; wanting to potentially come into a nicer home, but still feeling as if she would be an unnecessary burden.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Well?" Thunder asked, waiting for a response from Ariel. He sort of read her thoughts again, that she would just be a burden. "Ariel certainly won't be a burden. Rainbow, Storm and Blitz would love her.

(OOC: In some RPs, canon Rainbow Dash is Thunder's younger sister. I'm gonna add that into this one. What do you think about that?)

@,

(OOC: That's cool with me, bro. :P)

Ariel kept nervously twirling the fork in her hooves, glancing up at him before looking back down at her plate. Would she or would she not be a burden? Would she truly be welcomed into an accepting family? Certainly, any situation would have been better than what she had had to live with up until now, she reasoned.

Slowly bringing her gaze back up to him, she silently nodded her head, deciding that at the least, staying with him would be better than starving on the streets - and almost certainly better than staying with her original parents.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Great!" Thunder said cheerfully. "I can't wait for you to meet your new mother." Thunder said happily as he continued to eat his burger. "Rainbow's gonna absolutely adore Ariel. But before we go up there, I've gotta get her adapted to the pegasus lifestyle." Thunder thought to himself.

Ariel slowly started to eat her salad once more, thinking about the prospect of a new family. All that she hoped for was that they would be kinder to her than her own parents had; that was all she wanted. Acceptance. Her parents hated her for not being the perfect foal, or so they had told her on numerous occasions. To be so utterly disdained for something that was out of her control... she couldn't even begin to understand it. But for eight years, that had been her reality. Now that she had finally gotten away from that... maybe, just maybe, things would start to get better.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Ariel...there's something I have to tell you, and this is from the bottom of my heart. You will make a great foal in our family. It's too bad that some parents just do what they do because somepony's not "perfect". Nopony will ever be perfect. But there is no reason in Equestria that parents should hate their foals because of not being perfect. If you would just keep your head up and don't get stuck in the past, your future will be brighter than ever." Thunder stated as he continued to eat his burger.

Ariel set down her fork, her plate now empty, as she listened to Thunder Dash speak. It took her a little while to process what he was saying - but once she did, his words struck her deeply. She averted her gaze, though that did little to hide the tears that were forming in her eyes. What he had said hit home with her; with her in the situation that she had been in, such assuring words had been precisely what she needed to hear. And, though it would be hard to let go of the past, she couldn't help but to agree that she should at least try to keep her head up; to express as such, she slowly nodded her head.

@@Miss Reaper,

Thunder soon finished his burger. "So...are you ready?" Thunder asked as he wiped his mouth from excess ketchup and got up from the table. Thunder could see the little tears in Ariel's face. "I know is very difficult Ariel...but you're gonna have push through, because trying is all that matters." Thunder stated.

The filly looked at him and slowly nodded once in agreement before wiping away the tears in her eyes. She knew he was right; all she could do was try her best to keep moving forward, rather than keeping herself in the pain of the past. Even though that seemed so frustratingly difficult, the least she could to was try. With that in her mind, she carefully climbed down from her seat.

She still couldn't help but wonder what was waiting for her in the near future, though. What was this family going to be like? Would they be kind to her? Would they love her like a true family should? Everything was doubtful to her, since all she knew was resentment and disappointment from others.

@@Miss Reaper,

Thunder got up and gently picked up Ariel. He then put her on his back and walked outside. He then spread his wings proudly. "Hold on!" He said as he slowly rose into the air in a very slow flight. He looked back at Ariel. "You okay?" He asked before he continued to fly.

Ariel didn't complain this time as she was picked up and placed upon his back. She let out a questioning sound as she noticed him opening up his wings. For a moment, she admired the sleek feathers, having not really seen Pegasus wings up close before. But she was again confused when told to hold on, and hardly had the time to ask before he began his ascent. She immediately clung tightly to him, quivering slightly as she feared the possibility of falling now more than ever.

"Don't worry. Daddy will make sure you won't fall." Thunder assured as he slowly continued to ascend keeping an eye on Ariel. Calling Ariel his daughter for the first time was a bit awkward, but it would start sticking to him as life progressed on forward.

Ariel's flicked up in mild shock when she heard that from him. It did indeed feel somewhat awkward, and it would likely be some time before she would feel comfortable with calling Thunder 'Daddy,' but she supposed it was simply something to get used to if she was to be part of the family. She kept holding on tightly, though she seemed marginally calmer about the flight than she had been just a few moments before.

@@Miss Reaper,

Thunder continued to fly. Ten minutes passed. They soon arrived. "Alright Ariel, before I let you off, I just gotta do one thing. This may feel a bit funny, but it won't hurt." Thunder stated as he gathered some electricity and let it out in a fast current, but not too fast to hurt Ariel. True pegasus wings grew out from Ariel's sides. "You can get off now. It's okay, you won't fall." Thunder stated. They were on clouds.

The filly let out a little squeal of fright, tensing as she felt the electricity surge through her. At first not noticing her new wings, she hesitantly climbed off of Thunder's back. She looked down at her hooves; she was standing on clouds! But how? Had he done something to enable her to walk on clouds? That was when she noticed the sensation of something odd resting upon her sides, something that clearly hadn't been there before...

Turning to look, she gasped when she saw the feathered appendages; the wings in question instinctively unfurled from her surprise. In a slight panic over these strange new things that had seemingly attached themselves to her, she tried to bite down on one of them and yank it off. Of course, she received a shock of pain the moment she clamped her mouth onto one of her sensitive new wings. She cried out, releasing the wing at once as tears started welling in her eyes.

@@Miss Reaper,

"They're fully attached. Bite on them and you'll feel the pain." Thunder stated. "It'll take some time to get used to it, but I, being your new father, will teach you how to fly, and so wil your mother, who's also a great flyer." Thunder stated as he waited for Ariel to adapt to her new wings.

Ariel looked back once more at her new wings, seeming uncertain as she slowly moved them about. Surely enough, they responded to her will, flapping up and down gently. After a few moments, she stretched them out to their full span, examining the soft feathers. She wondered how she would get used to these new appendages, let alone learn to fly with them. She sighed almost silently as she carefully folded her wings.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Here. Try flapping them slowly, like this." Thunder stated as he demonstated. He flapped his wings slowly and gained a little bit of height. He then stopped and landed gently back on the clouds. "Now you try. Don't be scared. I will catch you if anything." Thunder assured.

Ariel looked at him uncertainly before she opened her wings once more. She started flapping them gently, slowly at first, and then gradually trying to increase speed so that maybe she could get some lift. However, she was hesitant. She was less than a foot in the air before she panicked, feeling that her hooves were no longer standing on anything even remotely solid, and closed her wings by nervous reflex. She flopped back onto the cloud ground as a result; she wasn't harmed by the little fall, but she was almost in tears yet again because of the failure.

Thunder went and gently picked up Ariel. "Shh, shh. It's okay. Don't be sad. You can always try again. I know you can do it Ariel, and it does take time. Don't panic when your hooves leave the ground. Here, I have an idea. I'll keep my hooves under you so you can feel something. After a while, I'll remove them. Does that sound good?" Thunder asked hugging Ariel.

The filly sniffled, rubbing the tears from her eyes as she looked up at Thunder, and then back at her wings. She stretched her wings out again, contemplating whether or not she really could succeed in learning to fly. It seemed so difficult and frightening to her... But, she decided that one more try couldn't hurt anything, reasoning that any pony hardly ever did something new correctly on their very first try. Looking up at Thunder once more, she nodded her head, indicating that she was ready to give it another try.

Thunder wedged his hooves under Ariel. "Alright, ready." Thunder stated as he waited for Ariel to start flapping her wings. "It's gonna take some time, but I know that Ariel would overcome her past and grow up to be a loving caring mare, and soon have a family of her own." Thunder thought to himself.

Ariel took a deep breath to try and steady her nerves before she began to flap her wings, again gently at first. She was again hesitant, this time even more reluctant to gain too much speed. But she had to at least try. The filly started flapping her wings just a little faster, barely enough to gain a bit of lift. She kept glancing at Thunder, as if making doubly certain that he was still there and his hooves were supporting her.

@@Miss Reaper,

Thunder moved his hooves up as Ariel continued to rise. "That's it sweetie. Keep going. You can do it!" Thunder encouraged as he kept his hooves under Ariel and waited for her to rise a little higher. All the while, he continuously thought about Ariel being a part of the family.

Realizing that she was so far doing well, Ariel started fluttering her little wings a little more rapidly, trying to gain yet more lift. She still felt the support of Thunder's hooves, and was starting to feel just the slightest more confident in herself; her uncertainty and hesitation beginning to wane, if only somewhat.

Suddenly, the prospect of a new family didn't seem so bad to her. Somehow, it clicked in this moment as she thought about it; if her new family was to be as supportive as Thunder was for her right now - in more than one sense of the word - well... maybe it would be a good thing, after all.
