gaming Can anyone recommend any horror/survival games?

The Forest looks quite good but I think it will be quite short and may get boring quickly. Still it should be good!

There's also the F2P game, Cry of Fear.. or Condemned: Criminal Origins. There's also Cryostasis, Penumbra, any S.T.A.L.K.E.R game.

Silent hill 2 if you are into atmospheric horror

silent hill 3 is also good in the same regard

Cry of Fear is a half life one mod that operates like silent hill, but with a bit more combat

Daylight is a recent game that is soon to be released,it plays a lot like amnesia

Since no console is specified I will just list a few and let you go from there:

Eternal Darkness

Any of the Silent Hill games

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (It's the only one I've played so the only one I can actually recommend but I hear the ones before this are amazing as well)

Fatal Frame

Extermination (more survival than horror)

There's also Parasite Eve but they'd qualify more as RPGs than horror but they've been known to be called horror games before.

Condemned: Criminal Origins

I second this one. This game is quite intense and will keep you on your toes. Such visceral combat. The control scheme is a little weird but you get used to it.

Never heard of a few on that list, extra points ;) !  I can play on Xbox 360 or PC so that covers almost every game...

Quite the experience. It has some of the best first person melee combat ever.

I'll try it soon, one thing I have to say is that it looks to be quite combat orientated which in the past has made most games not scary as you just kill the monster. Also the storyline progression (Fingerprints etc) looks tacky. Does anyone know what the sequel is like?

Good luck with Eternal Darkness then. It's Gamecube exclusive. Extermination is also PS2 exclusive.

The combat is precisely what makes it scary in Condemned. Usually I would agree with you but in Condemned it's very easy to get your ass whooped so the rush of keeping yourself alive along with the EXTREME darkness will keep the adrenaline going. It can be quite scary.

Especially when you're running around in farm houses with no guns and enemies that are very dangerous to get close to. :(

I haven't played it but I've heard Condemned 2 is more about story than gameplay, which is the opposite of the original.

The sequel basically took the concept of Condemned (1) and went complete overboard with it, including retconning almost everything. Not really worth it, in my opinion. Oh, I also forgot to mention another game, called Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Let this set the tone of the game:

By darkness is it controlled by finite things such as batteries or lamp oil etc? That was the problem with Outlast, batteries were a massive problem and you never could see anything...

I recognise that music from another game, can't remember it though! Call of Cthulhu doesn't look very outstanding.

It's a VERY creepy game, but it's pretty old. It has sorta the same game mechanics as Amnesia, with the insanity meter and all that. You can get it on Steam for not a whole lot.

- If you liked Amnesia, I bet you're going to like Call of Cthulhu aswell.

I'd recommend the first two Dead Space games. You could also try anything from the Silent Hill series.

Dead Space is good aside from the awful controls...

Try "Gone Home": http://store.steampowered.com/app/232430/

Left 4 Dead 2, Amnesia, uh...

Swamp Sim Horror: It's Slender, but with Shrek and onions instead of pages. http://gamejolt.com/games/other/swamp-sim-horror/20797/

Shrek and Onions? Sounds like a bad morning...

Naw, you don't have to worry about those sorts of things. It's just that your flashlight gives you very limited light and you can only see what's basically right in front of you. Sometimes they will take your flashlight away and force you to walk around in the dark too. Half the time you won't see an enemy until they are right in your face. And by in your face I mean with a crowbar.
