Adachi 772 May 7, 2014 Share May 7, 2014 Reading the SMT x MLP crossover made me think, although I like Tia and Luna, maybe they wouldn't be the best option as rulers. Sure, they're doing a good job now, and are well loved and respected by their people, but whenever a crisis occurs, they always rely on the Mane 6 to bail them out. On the other hand, Shining Armor, and his Pegasus Royal Guards get more directly involved. I feel that if they weren't busy guarding the princesses, they would go out and stop trouble themselves. I know that the actual show is entirely different canon from that crossover, but anyone who has read that crossover knows what I'm getting at. I think Shining Armor would be a better ruler, because he doesn't need protection, and he, along with Princess Cadence, would still know how to keep the people happy. And finally, there's the Mane 6 themselves. They do almost everything, and they also do much for others using their professions as well. In the end, I think either the Mane 6, or Shining Armor, Princess Cadence, and the Royal Guards would be best as rulers. I just think that any ruler should be a fighting ruler, or at least be a master tactician like Zhuge Liang. “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain

Dattebayo 2,850 May 7, 2014 Share May 7, 2014 Granted, most main problems the Mane 6 face together in FIM are world-shattering apocalypse things. They, as the bearers of the Elements of Harmony, are specifically meant to protect Equestria from great threats. It's not that Celestia is weak or a bad ruler (quite the opposite, considering the relative peace in Equestria), it's just that they have designated people to deal with major things. ^Click for my Deviant Art^ You truly are the Rosa Parks of not understanding what r34 is. Yeah, that's true. Although she was unable to protect her people from Chrysalis, but then again, the sisters rule because of their leadership, not their fighting ability. Even if they can't directly protect their people, Celestia was the one who brought the Mane 6 together. “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain

Besides, in the comics, where things aren't limited to 22 minute episodes, you can really see how bada$$ she is. ^Click for my Deviant Art^ You truly are the Rosa Parks of not understanding what r34 is. Rift enchanted 380 May 7, 2014 Share May 7, 2014 Well celestia and luna are trapped in the castle by a giant invisible force field created by plot. So they get others to do what they need to do without denying the powers of plot You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestiaAlso if your not familiar with the count to one million post then check out our welcoming cheer!http://mlpforums.com/topic/69955-count-to-one-million/page-1188Just scroll to the bottom and it'll be there

Creamy Arty 6,252 May 8, 2014 Share May 8, 2014 Military prowess is one necessary aspect of a competent ruler, although far from being the most critical, in my opinion. Compassion towards one's people and a sense of stewardship is what I believe is needed most, as well as economic knowledge, and a good grasp of diplomacy to prevent a war or conflict before it can begin. Princess Celestia has demonstrated all of these in sufficient measure. We've little knowledge of Equestria's inner workings, but based only on what we've seen it would appear that poverty is either nonexistent or at a respectably low level. Even the Pies, rock farmers in the middle of nowhere, had a decent house on the inside, it's only their chosen profession that kept them living amid such desolation. Assuming that she makes economic decisions with an appreciable impact on cities and towns throughout the land, I'd say she's handled this part of the job quite well. As Equestria is not at a state of war, even with the Changeling kingdom, I'm going to say she's also doing well in that regard. The Mane 6 are mostly ordinary ponies if one was to take away the Elements of Harmony. Without them, they would have been unable to save the world when Nightmare Moon or Discord returned. However, these were once controlled by Celestia and Luna. If they eventually passed from the princesses to this band of friends, they'll eventually pass to another set of ponies or back to the princesses once the Mane 6 live out their days. At least that would make sense and is what I'm going with for now. Without the elements, Celestia and Luna are still more than powerful enough to fend off whatever mundane threats pop up. The Mane 6 can be on call for the world-threatening catastrophes. I don't think any one of them or the lot currently possess the wisdom and temperament to take the reins of Equestria anyway. The Royal Guard aren't needed for the princesses' protection. There's nothing they can do against an assailant that Celestia or Luna can't do themselves. For the most part they're ceremonial and guard the castle grounds, and most likely serve as the police force of Canterlot; perhaps also abroad in a limited capacity. Shining Armor, while he could be a competent soldier, hasn't done anything else to inspire me in his abilities to lead a nation. Cadence is someone I would trust to rule given her affinity for pleasing others and inspiring love, while keeping a cool head under pressure. Unless I was to make might the paramount concern, which I'm not, I believe everything can remain as it is. Celestia and Luna are well-rounded rulers, have saved the world several times on their own prior to the birth of the Mane 6, and have centuries of experience building and maintaining this kingdom, garnering the adoration of their subjects. Adorkable 2,737 May 8, 2014 Share May 8, 2014 Well, yes. I'd like to see it more often though. As would I. ^^ It's a wonder what the leader of Equestria can handle at her limits, I think Queen Chrysalis just took Princess Celestia by surprise.
