Going to Start Writing a Fanfic

Recommended Posts

'Ello there. Name's Astral, everypony. I want to start writing a fanfic, if nothing more than to just see if my writing skill is still up to par as it used to be. Though, I was wondering if there was some place on this site where you could practice writing? I'm still fairly new here so I don't know all the ins and outs of the site yet but I'm slowly learning what I need to know. Since this fanfic is nothing more than a writing exercise, I'd rather not post it in the thread fanfics would go as it might not be up to par. Still, if I do write it then I'd like to hear some feedback on it so it'd help me to improve on my writing. Thanks again for anyone who can answer this question for me!

I imagine you could post in this very forum asking for criticism/reader evaluations.

If you're going to post the entire fic, I personally don't know of a more fitting place than the forum you wanted to avoid--though, I'll say that you probably don't have to worry hugely about it being up to par, as everypony naturally has all different levels.  :)  I know it's hard to feel right about posting something unless you're in the upper portion though.

Otherwise, you may have to do it in a more roundabout way, such as the first option I mentioned. Maybe. I'm not fully familiar with all the ins and outs of the site myself.  :muffins:

Regardless, I think this forum (creative resources) would be where you'd want to conscript help with your project.

@@SFyr,

Ah, thank you so very much. I guess I will go ahead and post the fic there. As I do hope that it'd be good enough in it's own right without me having to be too serious with it. Regardless, thank you for answering my question because it's been bugging me for quite a while. The fanfic itself is more or less telling my OC's true origins, as the backstory I written does tell some of it. It's not the full story and the other half hidden part is what I'm going to write about as I think it will help with future roleplays that I'm in. I should go ahead and jump on that.

Sure thing. Again, I think you're choices are just those two main options.   Roundabout here or full fic there. Though, I'm not saying there may be a 3rd option somewhere. ...Though I suppose seeking people out specifically would count.

I wish you well with it, regardless. Good luck man.  :muffins:

Greetings Astral Legend!  As far as official sources for helping you improve your writing skills on these forums, I can think of two: the Writing Centre and the recently created Authors Helping Authors group.  The Writing Centre is run by a number of members ready to assist you in all kinds of ways, from proofreading to answering questions you may have concerning editing, punctuation, story direction, etc.  The Authors Helping Authors group functions as MLPF first ever fan fiction library, and in addition, once your fic is stored there, if you review someone else's fic in our library, they will be obligated to read and review yours as well.  All reviews should be posted on comment sections for the fics themselves, not in the group thread.  Hope either of these help, and have fun writing!  :muffins:
