Technically Can Anypony Become An Alicorn?

Yes, it's been stated that any pony can become an alicorn, even earth ponies.

I'd go with yes, but it's the absolute pinnacle of achievement; it's insanely rare for a pony to perform a feat worthy of endowing Alicorn status, and once it does happen, that pony then has an enormous responsibility toward ponykind. (We can see Celestia, Luna and Cadence slowly guiding Twilight toward hers. I'm assuming Cadence herself was immediately mentored by Celestia since she became an Alicorn quite young. Celestia and Luna can probably tell immediately when an Alicorn appears.)

 

Celestia and Luna themselves, I believe, have always been Alicorns. Hence the immortality, which we've been told Twilight (and by association, Cadence) doesn't share.

Yeah, probably. I mean, anybody can become a princess (Princess Cookie), so why couldn't they become an alicorn?
