Friendship is Optimal - thought dump

I've read the fic Friendship is Optimal the other day and... well, let's just say it had an effect on me. The story is here, but I should mention that I found it... kinda horrifying, among other things. So, be warned if you plan to read it, and if you're already familiar with it, read the stuff below let me know what you think. I already posted it in the comments section of the story itself, but I could use different perspectives.

Episode 40 - Computer Upgrades

Episode 40 - Computer Upgrades

Hey.  Y'know what really grinds my gears?  When you purchase a new sweet-ass graphics card and a nice SSD and some sweet-ass RAM for you gaming computer, and then you install everything, and turn the 'puter on, but it doesn't boot.  The tower turns on, but the monitor stays black and just doesn't boot anything.  So you double check all connections and re-seat everything, but it doesn't help.  You already know everything should be compatible for your motherboard, so then you double check your sys

The Duck Knight Returns's fandom commentary

The Duck Knight Returns is perhaps the best episode of the new DuckTales. Of the many reasons why, the brilliant commentary on fandom's one of the most creative. It's able to comment about fandom without being mean, narcissistic, or retaliatory to criticism. It knows how to shape this commentary into the canon with nuance and care. There are five specific points that really shape up this commentary. Launchpad (representing the older fans) had a valid argument against the Darkwing Duck movi

Going dark

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” If that quote is indeed true, then I am most definitely insane. And that quote applies to every single time I’ve tried to become a part of a community, or fandom, or any type of social interaction. For quite a long time now, I’ve attempted to be part of a social circle, just wanting to feel like I belong somewhere. Try as I might, I can never seem to fit in with a group, and the on

Tycho, Madeon, the weather and dreams

Tycho, Madeon, the weather and dreams

Everyone's happy Masters of the electronic genre — Tycho and Madeon — drop an album and a single respectively, lifting the week for everyone around the globe. Released yesterday on July 12, Tycho's fifth album, 'Weather' is a downtempo, chill experience featuring the classic reverberant and mellow 'Tycho sound' of layered synthesisers but with a twist: he's introduced vocals. The voice of Hannah Cottrell (AKA Saint Sinner) is present on most of the album to spice up the usual airy atmospher

The Stigma of Suicide

The Stigma of Suicide

In my last piece, I argued that immortality wouldn't be the blessing that it's cracked up to be, but rather a curse.  Today, I tackle the opposite side of the same coin: suicide. My thoughts about suicide are quite simple.  I have always believed very firmly in complete bodily autonomy.  I believe that your body is the only thing you can ever truly own in the purest sense.  No one can tell you what you can and can't do with your own body as long as you're not infringing on the rights of oth

Rewrites, Review, and Character Backstory

I haven't really seriously written a story before, especially in the MLP universe. So I thought it was good practice. Truthfully, it was a rough start. I had originally intended it to be a 'fluff' story and slice of life but couldn't quite get what I wanted down on screen. So in favor, I threw in a more major plot line that fits in with the story I'm writing that doesn't have any ponies. I just thought it would be an interesting scenario. Before I explain who Evelyn Night is, I'll toss in t
Poppy's latest EP, 'Choke', sees more bending of the pop music genre

Poppy's latest EP, 'Choke', sees more bending of the pop music genre

If ever there was an artist to start this blog with, it's Poppy. What is Choke? Cult leader and popstar, Poppy, released her latest EP, Choke, last month on June 28th, 2019. Featuring the rapmetal band Fever 333, Choke further develops Poppy's spiral into eerie, sonically-perplexing and experimental pop-influenced songwriting. The EP features five songs, each varying in style and demonstrating the breadth of her artistic capabilities. The tracklist is as follows: Choke Voi

Immortality

Immortality

Nearly every religion is based on the promise of immortality after death.  For as long as humans have existed, we have feared death, and for many, the only solace is the bedtime story that when we die, we will be reunited with loved ones and get to experience everlasting joy in heaven for all eternity.  Countless peoples have based their entire lives on ensuring that they are admitted to this paradise when the time arrives.  People teach their children what they need to do in order to get into h

MLP Showdown: Lesson Zero vs It's About Time

(yes this is a rip off of Therealjims shut up) Despite all the recent complaints about Twilight breaking down too often, it has been a part of her character since Swarm of the Century, though this aspect wasn't focused on until season 2 where it got two episodes: Lesson Zero and It's About Time. Even past the general synopses, both episodes have cold opens that establish Twilight as hyper-organized (in very similar ways) and both episodes have a big breakdown scene leading into the third act

Supernatural

Supernatural

I regularly find it utterly bewildering, dismaying, and depressing that the majority of the world seems to believe in ghosts, spirits, and anything else that would fall under the umbrella of the "supernatural" or "paranormal".  I certainly do not, because I don't believe in anything on insufficient evidence, and neither should you.  Incidentally, this goes for things like astrology and psychics as well.  I was tempted to write a separate piece on this, but I don't think there's enough material t

Solid Foundations

There's not a whole lot to say here other than that I'm still working on improving. My last few pictures have been decent, good even, but I can't help notice the flaws that are probably caused by my rushing to improve too fast. These past weeks I've gone back to the basics: body structure, anatomy, proportions, etc. I don't have anything to show because I'm sure no one wants to see a bunch of incomplete sketches focused on improving rather than producing a high quality finished product. My

Episode 39 - When Computers Can't Count

OMG, this one's the worst. Y'know what really grinds my gears?  When some computers and devices can't count properly.  Okay, so if you're titling a bunch of files, and you number them, and then you sort by name, you'd expect them to appear in numerical order, right?  I mean, that's how it works.  Like, if you're using Windows, and you have a folder full of pictures from your camping trip, you can select all of them, and retitle the first one "Camp", and then it will automatically retitle al

Equestria Girls: Legend of Everfree Review

I had no idea what to expect going into Legend of Everfree. On the one hand, Friendship Games surprised me in being a pretty decent movie, but on the other hand, this could've still ended up as bad as Rainbow Rocks. Instead of going in either of these directions, Legend of Everfree ended up as the most mediocre of these movies.  Everything about Legend of Everfree feels dumbed down from Friendship Games. Starting with the visuals, they're not nearly as dynamic and interesting. Not one scene e

Equestria Girls: Friendship Games Review

I was slightly apprehensive going into Friendship Games. The first time I watched it, I thought it was terrible, even going as far as saying it was worse than Rainbow Rocks. And seeing how my opinion of Rainbow Rocks decreased when I rewatched it, I thought I would hate Friendship Games for sure.  Fortunately, that didn't happen. Friendship Games is the most competent EQG so far with a return to the lighthearted tone of the first EQG, more of a focus on what role every character should play,
