society views are so twisted.

edit: I too have autism, high functioning autism as it's called ( very slight variation of Asperger's syndrome ).

I have Autism, and I am very much able in society.

Yes, people are weird about it, but there are so many different kinds of Autism.

And I don't think companies view it negatively, heck, I think my bosses treat me nicer because of it. And there is a somewhat equal workplace in America... SOMEWHAT.

But yes, it is a weird subject that is kinda uneducated among people.

It does depend on the level of functionality of the autism how-ever. Because there is low functioning autism, (like the boy in Mercury Rising or The Rain Man), where the person can be extremely intelligent, and a genius, but has the social abilities of a flea, meaning they cannot socialize what-so ever. Then there are people like me, who has Asperger (or as my friend calls it Ass Burger) Syndrome, where it is quite high functioning, you can socialize quite well.

As someone with aspergers, I think the mentality is only fueled by the internet's habit of using "Autism" as an insult, as well as pe

People who had seen "Rain Man" consider themselves EXPERTS on autism. That, and it often has a negative connotation as an insult today.

So just ignore those types of people, because they are the obvious idiots.

Yes, I obviously ignore the people who just use "Autism" as an insult but I can't as much as I would like to ignore the people calling Autism a death sentence because as I pointed out in the video that are even well meaning people who have that false impression and I have to do what I can to set the record straight on that. Autism is a very complicated issue that has a lot of people confused and the amount of misinformation makes it all the more crucial that people like myself speak out and build on the gains we have had over the years in educating the public as well as addressing the things we still need to work on.

Is this old information? Because I was googling some of this stuff and it came up with posts from 2009. Only people that have documented on this information (like you) have reported on this a year or so ago, rephrasing the information. This is nothing but a conspiracy theory. Wheres the research? Wheres the cited information? Guess what. Theres none.

It depends on who you are talking to, to someone who is on the Autism spectrum and their families this is old news but to many in the general public this is new.

I don't understand what you are talking about, exactly what have I said on this video do you believe is a conspiracy theory? What claim have I made that is there supposedly no evidence of? Autism Speaks really has said the things I have claimed as much as it pains me to admit, and people have either because they don't know any better and are simply doing what they is right or are unwilling to listen do bring a message of doom and gloom that is highly inaccurate. Or are you referencing my statement of vaccines which was only a small part of the video and not the main point?

Oh my god, what kind of a mother would throw herself off a bridge because of her autistic child? That is just sick. :( What makes me angry more than anything are parents who dislike their autistic children. It's not like those kids asked to be that way, and it's not like they asked to be under their roof either!
Poor kids, if I had a autistic child, I would love him/her. I could see me having a bit of stress here and there, but I would never ever ever retort to something like that!
There is this woman who was on Dr.Phil, who said she hated her autistic daughter.

In this case a better question would be who what kind of mother would actually say this in front of both of her children in a documentary that could be and was indeed seen by millions? She didn't go through with it and thank God for that but there is a disturbing increase in cases of parents of Autistic children that actually are doing these twisted "mercy" killings and statements like that do not help matters. It is one thing to think something like this but an entirely different matter to actually say this in front of your own children and millions of people.

That is why I don't watch shows like that, they always the bottom of the barrel for shock value to get ratings. As ashamed I am to admit it I used to out of morbid curiosity but then I got sick of them and decided that there are far better things to do with my time.
