Nice to Myself

Otter

You guys keep saying that I'm too much of a douche to myself, so I decided to try and make a blog in which I say nothing but nice things about myself. This is not going to be easy...

1. I can eat a lot, but I always remain thin.

2. I suppose I have a decent family life. My dad's annoying, and my mom's a moron, but at least they leave me alone. And my brother's pretty cool, I guess.

3. I'm a decent snowboarder.

4. My hairdo looks like Severus Snape's, which is always nice.

5. I can type at a decently fast WPM.

6. I guess I've got a couple good friends.

There, I said some nice things about myself. Happy now? Don't expect me to do any more stuff like this, because it's freakin' hard and I don't like it.

It's a good start.

And an even better end, because this is the last time I'm ever doing something like this.

Nope, that's it. That's every good thing about myself.

No, I'm not happy about it. Because my happiness does not depend on you having love for yourself. For it is obvious you still don't as you mentioned you don't like it. Your first line indicates an anger that almost says you feel as if the world is judging you and that you should think more positive which I would say it's true. If that really is all you can say is good about yourself, that tells me you have a lack of belief in yourself which creates doubt in yourself, which creates a hate within yourself and thus all you can see is a world of negativity.

You are better then that. Always have been. But light only comes when the veil of darkness in you mind is lifted by the belief and love in oneself.

edit: typo

Tell me something I don't know.

This world IS negativity. There's hardly anything in this shitbag world to be happy about. From the moment you're born, you're thrown into a world of torment. First you plan for school, when you're in elementary/middle/high school, you plan for college, when you're in college, you plan for work, when you're working, you plan for retirement, and when you're retired, you plan for death. There's no time for enjoyment, because you're too busy worrying about the next stage of your life. Death is the first time I'll ever see peace in this godforsaken world.

No, the world IS what you want it to be.

You see the world as a crappy place full of negativity, that's what it is to you.

I see the world as a wonderful place full of new experiences, that's what it is to me.

It's all about how you look at it. What you think rules your world.

Believe it or not, I used to think the world was a crappy place too when I was younger. Now look at me, I'm the farthest from that.

You CAN have a positive outlook, but you have to want it. You have to get your mind into the right place. Having self-confidence and a good self-esteem is a great start to getting your mind into the right place.

I doubt I could, even if I did want it. I always overthink everything, which makes me worry even over tiny little things. The only way I could be happy in this world would be to shut off my brain.

You don't think you can, therefore you can't. If you tell yourself that you can do it, then guess what? You can do it.

I suggest you try more things, you might end up being good at something you never even would have imagined. You'll never know unless you try.

Try doing things that you enjoy, or things that people say that you were good at.

People kept telling me that I was good at speeches, but I was so shy and timid back then, I didn't ever think that I could be. Now, I'm that weird kid who LOVES to give presentations in front of the class and make them laugh.

If you try something and find out that you aren't any good at it, don't let it discourage you. Don't look at it is losing, look at it as an opportunity to grow better as a person.

Yeah, that helps a lot... Everything I enjoy, I'm no good at. Everything I'm good at, I don't enjoy. The only people who've ever told me that I'm good at something are my parents, but it was that "parent" kind of compliment: "Oh, Cam, that was REALLY good!" In that mushy kind of "you suck but since you're my child I'm going to lie to you and say that you rock" voice.

Are they really lying to you? Or do you feel that you aren't worthy of praise?

Are you really bad at what you enjoy? Or do you just think that you are bad at what you enjoy?

All my life, I've loved technology. I've also gotten D's in Math. My teachers said: "You can't be good at computers. You're horrible at Math. You'll never be any good at computers. You might as well just give up." I didn't. And you know what? I'm pretty good with computers. I help people out all the time with their computers and gadgets, and I love it. Guess what? I still suck at Math. It never stopped me though, because I never let it.

If something makes you happy, then do it. It doesn't matter if you're "Naturally" good at it. What matters is that you try to get better at it. If you never fail, then you can never grow as a person. If you fail at something more than others, in the end when you make it to your goal, it makes it all the more rewarding.

Probably a mixture of both.

I suppose I'm good with computers, been using them practically my whole life. But I'm good with computers in the "recreational" sense. In other words, I have no programming abilities, no skills with any professional-type software, nothing that could actually help me get a job. One of the only other things I'm good at is being a know-it-all jackass. I'm always spouting off random facts and correcting people (in real life anyway), which I'm sure is very grating to everyone I come into contact with.

I think this all stems from the fact that I have no professional skills, no skills that will help me get a job. I suppose I have mediocre skills with the pencil, but that's not going to get me anywhere in life. I can snowboard, but not good enough that I could make a career out of it. Maybe I'm good at a few things, but none of those are going to get me a job.

Try taking a computer class. Start building that skill now.

No classes in the area. No classes for my skill level, anyway. The only ones around here are stuff like "How to Type" or "Basic MS Word Skills".

You could try to get some books or taking online classes.

Here's another problem with me: I know I could find books on the subject (hell, my dad's got tons of them), I know I should take the classes, but I just feel no ambition whatsoever to do either.

And here's yet another thing that's wrong with me: Every time anyone tries to give me advice, I just shut them down and try to find something wrong with their advice, no matter how small. I can't just accept your advice and try to better myself with it, I just act like you're always wrong.

Well, this is a start. I know it doesn't seem like much now, or that it feels forced to find nice things to say about yourself, but keep doing it. As time goes on it will get easier and easier.

How we think begets how we feel. Negative thinking begets negative feelings, and positive thinking begets positive feelings. Keep a positive outlook, even if it feels like a facade at first. Over time, though, your outlook will slowly brighten.
