  1. 1-4 AM, depending on if I have school, work, and homework on the same day. Up at 6:30 AM on weekdays. Some days I don't understand how I function normally. Stupid school cut my 9 months course down into 6 the day I arrived, so the amount of work to do gets disgusting at times. Standing in place and feeling dizzy at the same time for no reason isn't a fun experience. At least it'll be over soon.

  2. IP.Board is kind of lame from a developer's perspective, but I've been around the block with forum software, and on the whole, it's as good as it gets. I'm not aware of any history of IPB being a failure; IPS have been a trusted name in forum software for a very long time, even if they're a bit of an underdog. The security holes that are periodically found sometimes leave me scratching my head, but IPS are usually very quick to release critical patches, at least. IPS do get big points in my book for their addon apps such as IP.Content and IP.Nexus, which provide important functionality for us and are as fully supported as IP.Board itself.

It's been some time since the last time I evaluated the options, though, so things may have changed. What are your thoughts on the current state of forum software, GeneralDirection?

Well, it all comes down to what you need. Maybe for you, IPB meets all your needs, and in that case, great. I personally have never run a community this big, so maybe that's where our opinions will vary. In my mind, phpBB, vBulletin, and XenForo have been the best options for forum software, and while phpBB is the one I've used the most, it probably won't fly here. I hear a lot of good things about XenForo. I personally do not have a copy though, as I have no use for it. Might be something for you to consider. smile.png vBulletin used to be one of the best but lately vb5 has placed it on the bottom of the barrel. I was never able to figure out just what it was exactly that made me and IPB not get along well.

I wanna respond to this myself as well as GeneralDirection :3

Forum Software that release to large amount of clients usually focus on a "general use"

It's not designed to be perfect for each individual, but to provide a base plan for starting forums. It's good yes, but isn't designed to handle every need of every forum as it's pretty much impossible. My Personal belief is IP Board could be used to start a community, but if possible, a self built forum software should be looked at after a short while, that way you're able to do what you want when you want. You get full developer control over it...

This is probably the best route to take, but (obviously) is by far the hardest. Back when I was doing web stuff one of my goals was to create a forum using XML, completely eliminating the need for MySQL databases. Never quite got there though. dry.png Anyway, if anyone here were to take on such a task, I would be elated to have some sort of part in it.

  3. Excuse my relative newness to this community. as such my information is limited. I'm not new to forum solutions though. I'm curious as to why we even use IPB period. It's got a long history of being a failure and I can't think of anyone I know that's happy with it. Plus the security holes were/are loads of fun.

At the original topic, if you really do need space for your pony stuff, shoot it my way and I'll upload it to my site for you. But there are so many free image uploading sites these days that you should be able to find something.

  5. For all car enthusiasts a car is an extension of yourself. Which is why car enthusiasts take very good care of their cars as well as spending tons of money on customization, tuning as well as just the basic costs of having it.

    Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

Oooo...Evo. :D Anyway...yea...kinda like how transit enthusiasts throw away their sanity (and money) on buses. :P

    Or mabye a Koenigsegg Azura

    Very nice. :)

As for me, I'd probably be an Evo X or an H1.  Then I could go pretty much anywhere. ^^

  6. Ponies (duh)

Transit buses, particularly ones with DDC engines and ZF transmissions <3 (there's your potentially lethal dose of weirdness for the day)

    Writing

    My friends

    Music

That about does it for now.

  7. Used to dual boot WinXP and Fedora on my old computer, until the power supply went on it one day. Then I bough the one I have now and built it myself. Best decision ever. I have Win7 now. Never been much of a Mac fan, which is also technically Linux too I suppose. Plus all crApple stuff is way overpriced anyway.

  8. I use Firefox because it used to be the only browser with addons. That's about it. Now we have Chrome too but I'm not a fan of the data collection. Safari and Opera are just meh. IE has always been a scumbag browser because it breaks a lot of stuff that isn't specially made for it. You can either code for IE, or you can code for everyone else. But like any good web developer, I have all five installed on my computer to compare how each one interprets my work. tongue.png

  9. At the moment I work at RCSS as a cashier, one of three male cashiers in the whole store, and one of four total guys employed in the front end department. I think I fall somewhere between the over-achiever and the 'content-with-their-current-place-and-position' types. I always try to do the best that I can every day, while still having patience with customers. I have gotten better and better at it and now it's become second-nature to me. I don't do a whole lot of thinking anymore my brain just knows what to do and does it .I used to be one of the fastest until I started going to school and that's sucked a lot of energy out of me. I'm supposed to be getting a promotion but that doesn't look like it'll be happening anytime soon, they always come up with some excuse of why not this month. I try to take pride in my job, even if it is a crappy dead-end one. :)

Speaking of school, I think my work ethic there is pretty good too. Not a technical job per se (one I have to pay for if it is at all), but I try to move a reasonable speed while taking the time to make sure I'm focused and doing it right. I did only start in mid February, though. I don't like making mistakes there, usually ends up costing someone money and wasting my time. I'm usually stuck working by myself so when I do get help I'm very happy to have it.

  10. I have my own email addresses from my website @rotw.ca  I also have one with my ISP, Shaw, plus @yahoo.com. @hotmail.com, @gmail.com. @facebook.com, one with the university I'm attending, and I think I had an AOL one going too at one point in time. I mainly use my ISP email and the ones I have with my web space.

  11. *sigh* What a conundrum. As a human I wouldn't be marrying any pony because that's not my thing. However, if I were to become a pony also then I'd go for Rainbow Dash. I think she could benefit from having someone a bit more rational in her life, in the same way that I would benefit from someone a bit crazier. :P Sounds good to me. Alas, there's only hundreds of thousands of other fans with the same ambitions, I'd probably get run over by the flashier ponies, and Dash doesn't strike me as the observant type so I'd be outta luck. Twilight would probably understand me, so maybe there's something there. But I think that I'd probably feel like I'm compromising and that's not a nice feeling to be carrying around.

  12. Sounds like you've numbed out. Who knows, maybe it's for the best as far as you're concerned. Sometimes feeling can hurt more than it's worth.

Oh it's just wonderful. It's great when everyone else thinks you don't care about anything because you don't show any sign of it. /sarcasm Not really. :/

  13. My emotions can turn on a dime, man. But I only have two...sadness and a state of 'neutrality'. I don't get angry, and I've forgotten how to be happy or joyful. I've messed myself up pretty bad. Like when anything good happens to me that most people would normally get excited about, my external mood doesn't change at all. I can't actually remember the last time it did change at all...aside from being sad. It's been so long...but internally I do feel happy.

About a year ago I cried at least once a week, but these days even that doesn't happen much anymore. Just nothingness. Maybe that's why I'm so bad at conveying emotion through writing.

  14. My dream job atm would be to work for Calgary Transit as the service/maintenance manager. Although right now, I just want to get in at any transit authority doing something...I can't think of anything more fulfilling than spending the rest of my life doing something I love doing. Besides hanging out with Rainbow Dash, of course. :P

  15. Hmm...only a 3.5 hour drive from Kamloops. I could make it if I wanted to. Those dates are a bit iffy for me at the moment. I'll be done with university by then but I may or may not have a new job, might even be in Vancouver from the looks of things. Ugh, I hate job hunting. I'll just have to wait and see what happens i guess. If it works out I'd love to go. :)

  16. Nope, I do have one on fanfiction.net, though. Haven't posted anything on it yet. Is FIMFiction supposed to be better somehow? All I ever hear talk about is FIMFiction.net but never fanfiction.net. I've read a number of fanfics on that site but I can't find any good ones that I haven't read yet so that's why I started writing my own. But I'm really picky when it comes to what I read so that may be part of the problem. :/

  17. You like buses, huh?  I guess I generally feel the same way about trains.  They move freight and connect people, weaving regions and even whole nations together.  They help keep our highways and planes from being overcrowded.  And they're just plain fun to ride, photograph, and talk about.  smile.png  There are a few railfans in the forum, and I'm glad this year's Bronycon is being held in Baltimore because there's a pretty good variety of railway stuff there.

Only transit ones though! Could care less about motor coaches or school buses. See I feel that way too, only about buses...I loved to ride on them when I was younger and I can go on for hours about them if someone let's me. tongue.png I wish I could find more people that like them as much as I do...that's one of the reasons why I'm taking commercial transport mechanics at the moment...I'll get to work on what I love the most and probably meet a bunch of people that feel the same way. smile.png (And also why I have an old Luminator destination sign for a signature...)

  18. Canada, hands down. Yes I'm slightly biased, born and lived here all my life. Canadian Rocky Mountain range is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I had the privilege of living there for a couple years too. I've always wanted to visit Australia though.

  19. Music is definitely the most important part of me. In close second would be my interest in transit buses. Music has gotten me through some pretty tough times, pretty safe to say that I wouldn't be here without it, and the bus stuff? Well, if it weren't for that, I wouldn't have any direction in my life right now. Pretty important if you ask me. :P

When I write stories, I always go heavy on the dialogue...

Oh good, I'm not the only one that writes like that. xD

  20. I used to have a few things about myself that I liked, like my insane obsession with transit buses, my writing, computer, and web design skills, my unwavering loyalty, having lots of patience, high attention to detail, and highly analytical personality. but more recently I've come to not like those things anymore. I'll get over it eventually, it's a roller coaster I've been riding for the last 8 years now, linked to lots of different stuff that's going on in my life. It's just the wrong time right now, I guess. :/

  21. Yea I have no way of getting to Baltimore either, nor do I have time anyway, as cool as it would be to go. So have fun in lieu of me or something. Whatever. This site is awesome and is worth way more than $40 to me, and I know I'm not alone in thinking this. smile.png

  22. Yea, I guess I still sort of am. Don't really have much time for it now between school and work and writing lol. xD I used to know HTML and CSS like the back of my hand. I used to know some JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL/phpMyAdmin, but I never did fully understand them. Also wanted to learn XML. But my webmaster days are over for now, maybe I'll pick it back up as a hobby in a few years when I'm not so busy. I do continue to pay for my web space, I still have a few uses for it. I did build a few things that I thought were cool at one point in time...
