About Me
Well, hi there! Come on in, have a seat and a couple drinks, and let me tell you about myself!
INTRO
For starters, I joined this site back in ye good ol' days of 2013 or so; back then the site was larger, more complicated, and more...well, chaotic for lack of a better word. I, being only 15 at the time, was an arrogant and disrespectful little weasel (my username is evidence enough) who was also (working by the logic of heightened hormones) absolutely desperate and needy for a girlfriend. I'll make this short and simple, it did not end well for me, and I ended up rightly getting banned for my actions around 2 years later (I swear, you'd think I might've learned by that point since I was 17 and nearing adulthood...). Suffice to say, I was...rather angered, and after a brief period where I attempted to circumvent my ban a couple of times, I pretty much decided to give up and properly move on.
So, in the four-year interim, I graduated from high school, wiped my slate clean, and ultimately made an appeal for an unbanning to @Jerica, which surprisingly enough, she accepted.
Now, I'm 24, more level-headed and emotionally mature, and looking to properly become a member of this community. I'm still a weird little burrito of an enigma, however.
MY INTERESTS
I am a fairly simple fellow when it comes to interests: I enjoy anime, manga, fantasy and science fiction stories (especially those from the early-to-mid 20th century), B-movies (like those you'd see on Mystery Science Theater 3000, which I consider to be one of the greatest TV shows ever), mysticism (I have a particular fondness for astral projection and chaos magic), and the ideas of the 1960s counterculture (most prominently Discordianism). I also have a love of music, but this requires its own section, since I have a lot to say about the subject.
MUSIC, OR "Ye Gods, don't encourage her or we'll never hear the end of it!"
Now, I've always loved music, having primarily grown up on hardcore punk and heavy metal in my childhood and teen years. My first actual participation in the field of music, however, was during my middle school years, wherein I participated in Chorus. My first, and most important influence, you could say, was my teacher Mr. York; he was a kind man who ultimately planted the seeds for my future ambitions. While I wasn't the best student since a lot of our grade relied on concerts and I had a habit of not showing up to those, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't passionate about that class. It was my first exposure to a lot of genres ranging from sea shanties to spiritual music, and the Broadway musical, a particular style that I am still a huge fan of to this day. While there was an option for a chorus elective when I got to 9th grade, I never really pursued it for whatever reason.
A-anyways, moving on...
My earliest musical memory relates to listening to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the car at around 3 or 4 years old. I thought Kurt Cobain always said "Here we are now, and potatoes!" Ultimately, this first exposure to 90s alt-rock left a pretty big impression on me, and led me on the path to discovering bands like the Shaggs, the Butthole Surfers, Black Flag, and Captain Beefheart later on in life.
But my other big influence, I admit, is Brian Wilson and his mid-to-late 1960s work. I was first exposed to the Beach Boys via their song "Little Saint Nick" on one of those Now That's What I Call Christmas! compilation CDs. Although I didn't know who did the song at the time, I liked the way it sounded and would sing along to the chorus whenever it was on. And while I wouldn't delve into the Pet Sounds and Smile-era work until my mid-to-late teens, I enjoyed (and still do) the most prominent of the Beach Boys' work: songs about surfing, cars, and girls.
And this leads into my later fascination with artists like Frank Zappa and Daniel Johnston. The former I discovered via the scattered references I could find in my favorite media, and the latter through the recommendation of the late Mr. Cobain. Listening to these two artists, I learned two very different things about music: through Zappa I learned that you didn't have to limit yourself to a single genre, and through Johnston I learned that even through the pains of mental illness and limited resources, one can make music with even the barest modicum of talent and someone out there will still be able to enjoy it even if no one else can understand why (something that I have experience with, to put it bluntly).
And finally, I want to discuss how I decided to pursue music as a career (or, at the moment, wanting to) and what kind of music I make. In regards to the first point, I was ultimately inspired by the various brony artists such as WoodenToaster and The Living Tombstone that I was listening to at the time I joined the forums, and I initially wanted to pursue that same path (mostly) for fame and fortune, which is something I never got around to. As my musical tastes expanded and my interests grew, I eventually decided to settle on being a generally "geek" artist.
The second point is...honestly a bit harder to define, since I've only recently decided on a definitive genre that I can use as a base: psychobilly, a blend of punk rock, traditionalist (i.e. 1950s and early 1960s) rock and roll, and schlocky horror and sci-fi themes. Although I plan to primarily focus on this genre, my influences range from blues to prog to even experimental and avant-garde music; my solution is to subtly incorporate these into the punked-up rockabilly and doo-wop sounds of psychobilly to create a unique, yet accessible brand of pop done my way.
...Now I'm starting to sound like an advertisement. On one last note, my primary instruments are drums, bass, and keyboards (and even then, my mild cerebral palsy limits the actual instruments to the former and to a degree the latter, so I have to rely on DAWs; on the upside, however, my options of instrumentation are limitless and I can ensure that my songs sound exactly the way I envision them).
A BRIEF WORD OR TWO ON THE SUBJECT OF PONIES
Although I am still a big fan of ponies, it isn't to the extent I used to be and I stopped watching the show at least partially around the start of season 6. That doesn't mean I can't or won't discuss or roleplay about our favorite multicolored tiny horsies!
As for best pony, Pinkie, best pony race is a tie between unicorns and pegasi, best member of the Student Six is BEST AND MOST GLORIOUS YA-I mean Yona, fave villain is Discord, and best princess is Cadence.
POLITICAL/RELIGIOUS VIEWS
I am going to be absolutely clear on these matters: this is the only time I will say pretty much anything on my religious and political viewpoints, so do not ask me anything about them unless we can discuss such subjects like sane human beings - without any bias or discrimination. Got it? Good.
In terms of politics, I identify as an anarchist, and am for the legalization of cannabis, pro-vaccination, and support direct democracy as well as the libertarian socialist model of the economy. Here's where I lean on the political spectrum according to 8values:
Religion-wise, I identify as a "soft" Hellenic polytheist, primarily worshipping Aphrodite as my patron goddess; to a lesser extent I also honor Apollo, Zeus, and Artemis. I take an agnostic theist approach when it comes to the gods - I certainly believe they exist, but as transcendent beings is unknowable. Instead, I view them in an immanent light, manifesting themselves in the natural world and in our society. I also believe in polyamory, though in my opinion, it requires a level of trust and consent between all parties involved; this ties into my beliefs on free love and ethical hedonism: you should be able to do as you please without interference but only as long as you hold yourself to the moral, eithical, legal and logical standards we have as human beings.
