I wasn’t confident at all about it at first. My mom didn’t understand and judged me for the things I bought. She told me straight up that I was wasting my money. It made me feel bad, honestly... However, I realized that I shouldn’t feel ashamed for my interests. My parents just don’t understand them and that’s alright! I didn’t need their approval. Over time, they got used to it and eventually stopped asking questions. Of course, my mom still finds it all odd but she knows that I am an adult, I am spending my own money, and I am not hurting anyone/myself. 

I know that this is easier said than done but you should express yourself however you wish.
