Star Force: The Force Awakens is one of the best examples of female empowerment in modern-day cinema. An excellent character that isn't any stereotype, is smartly written, and doesn't need to have any male to be treated as a stereotype.

Looking at this through Syndrome's eyes, the other superheroes are not innocent. They're enemy combatants; exceptional people upholding the status quo that he's opposed to and keeping his worldview down. I think of Syndrome having more in common with the archetypical tragic hero than thr classical villain; as Buddy Pine, he had good intentions, but ambition proved to be his fatal flaw.
