      Also, it appears that Team Sonic has a massive fetish for antagonists that are evil lava serpents with a multitude of eyes and spikes covering them.

      That and having the whole series' villain never get to do anything himself, Which by the way was fixed in both Generations and Colors. Yup, you fight Eggman in the final boss battles.

       

      They've also added some sort of continuity in the new games. Generations is an actual sequel to Colors.

      One good note is that, due to how Sonic '06 ended, it never really happened.
