It's a fair enough thing to worry about.  My guess is it's going to go Act 1: Set up main conflict, 20-25 minutes, 30 max; Act 2: jumping from set piece to set piece to gather allies, most like 30-40 minutes, 45 max; Act 3: conflict resolution, 20-30 minutes.  Considering it's the writers who have managed to do 22 minute episodes and 44 minute openers and finales for seven seasons now, I'm putting my faith in them that they know how to use their time wisely enough and allocate it properly, hopefully.  Crossing fingers on that one big time.

So maannny characters, I wounder how they are going to balance it in so little timeframe. Must mind you all this type of movie (cartoon TV theatrical movies) have between an 80-90 minute run time.

There is admittedly an outside possibility that it flops, but here's why I don't think it will.  I too grew up in that early 2000s period, and here's what really worked against most of those TV shows adapted into movies at the time, at least the ones that flopped: lack of Internet fanbases as truly developed communities.  Keep in mind, Internet was still quite young at this time and fan communities, while not unheard of, we're largely limited to gathering at cons and being devoted to much older franchises.  The biggest developing young fanbase at the time was the Harry Potter one, and even that hadn't fully blossomed yet.  MLP:FiM's debut even marked a turning point in many ways; both it and Adventure Time (and in some ways Avatar: The Last Airbender's fanbase in its later seasons and definitely during Korra's run) were some of the first TV shows that really thrived because of the online communities of fans that quickly sprung up around them.  Lots of adults using the Internet were able to quickly realize that tons more like them were watching these shows, which in turn encouraged more teenagers and adults to give them a chance, and totally changed the game of how TV followings develop.  It's not just going to be kids convincing their parents to take them to this, groups of adults will quite willingly be seeing this movie.

So will it be a runaway success?  I really can't say, but I will say that it's fortuitous timing for it to release at the start of October.  While Blade Runner 2049 is releasing in the same week, both movies won't really be taking audiences from each other, they're too different; the biggest competition at the box office for My Little Pony: The Movie will be The LEGO Ninjago movie, but that'll be two weeks old already, even if I'm guessing it'll still be stiff competition.  We don't yet know the budget for the movie, but let's say that production and marketing costs end up somewhere in the $50 - $100 million range, if even that (which I think is a fair enough guess: LEGO Batman had an $80 million budget and Cars 3 had a $175 million budget, but I'd guess this cost less than LEGO Batman even).  It shouldn't need to make too much then to be profitable, especially if it's good; a solid opening weekend should do the trick especially.  The biggest risk is going to be how it does outside of North America as well as how critics go at it, considering we cannot expect that most of them have regularly watched this show, so this will probably be their first exposure to it; the fair ones will understand that they're jumping into a world that has been developing for seven years, the stupid ones won't and will complain that they're confused.

Well then, if you'll excuse me, I'll just be over in the corner having about two dozen heart attacks... BYE!!!

OK, OK, I do have real thoughts on this.  Pretty much all of this looks amazing, like something out of my wildest fanfiction dreams (heck, we're FINALLY going to get airship-to-airship combat, something which has been played around with in fanfiction, and I myself have wanted to play around with in fanfiction, and something I'm sure most bronies have wanted to see, FOR YEARS!!!), though I will admit that somepony skimmed out on the CGI for the airships.  Those look... kinda shitty, at least the first few shots of them did.  I'm not sure if they just haven't gone through their final polishing of them yet, but it was weird, they looked like something out of an early 2000s CG TV show on something like Kids WB, and it was even more bizarre looking alongside the rest of the GORGEOUS animation in the trailer, I mean, goodness gracious, that's some swanky animation everywhere else.  It does look a bit oddly floppy in some spots, in some aspects almost more cartoonish than the actual show looks, but that is nitpicking in the extreme.  Really, this just looks pretty bucking amazing and like it should be a great event for all of bronydom.  Do I think it'll be the high point of MLP and the fandom?  Nooooooooo, not even close, BUT it's a pretty awesome testament to what enough people doing something as simple as loving a TV show enough can lead to, and here's hoping that it's a truly memorable, amazing event for old and new bronies alike, heck, even people not in the fandom, in all the right ways!!!

Oh, you mean how do you write something and save it before publishing it?  Their system is weird; uploading a story isn't hard but I never use it to save work I'm still writing and editing.  My suggestion is to write drafts on a system like Microsoft word or Google Docs, then just copy and paste when you're ready to publish your story.  That's always been simplest for me.

But enough about that, back to business.  Welcome to Poniverse Summerpalooza 3.0: Family is Magic!!!  Now then, unlike our previous Summerpalooza contests, we will NOT require entries to be centered around Poniverse mascots.  We will accept entries featuring Poniverse mascots (including a few new ones who will be mentioned below) but we will NOT require entries to include or be centered around them.  All entries may be centered around whichever pony characters the author wishes, be they main characters, supporting characters, background characters, or original characters (which includes but is not limited to Poniverse mascots).  If a fic featuring Poniverse mascots is deemed good enough, even if it isn't a winning entry, it will be added to Poniverse mascot canon.  Finally, if you would like to include or center your fic around a Poniverse mascot(s) (not counting new ones who shall be mentioned shortly) you can learn more about them here: Poniverse Mascot Profiles (scroll down in thread).  Feel free to also use Poniverse Mascot canon if you utilize the mascots, or to reference it.  All existing mascot canon can be found here: Poniverse Mascot Canon.

With all that out of the way, let's cover the basic premise and ground rules of this contest.

(1) As stated in the title, the theme of this contest is "Family is Magic."  All fics must be centered around in one way or another the idea of family in some way.  This does NOT mean that all characters involved need be blood relatives.  Family means a lot of different things to everyone, and obviously there are instances where friends or mentors can be so close to you that they are family, so feel free to get creative there.  Also, just because family is the focus does not mean that your fics HAVE to be serious.  The genre can be whatever you wish, drama, comedy, slice of life, adventure, tragedy, whatever, just as long as the theme or idea of family is present in some respect.  We hope this gives authors plenty of room to get creative in what they come up with, so go crazy guys, seriously! 

(2) Entries should be no longer than 30,000 words.  We'd prefer that all entries be one-shot fics, but if the author requires multiple chapters for their fic, that's fine, so long as the fic does not exceed 30,000 words and is complete upon entry.

(3) Entries cannot exceed a Teen rating. We will not accept any Mature rated fics, whether they be Gore fics, Slash fics, Clop fics, etc. That's not to say that you can't enter scary fics, but our group has a strict policy of not accepting Mature rated fics. If any Mature rated fics are entered, we will not read or review them.

(4) Fics can be submitted to the contest in the folder titled Summerpalooza 3.0 Contest Entries.

(5) Contestants can enter no more than 1 submission of their own work (and please, do not enter any other author's work into the contest, even if you're doing it for them; if they'd like to enter the contest, they can do so themselves).  Collaborations between 2 or more authors are allowed, but only one prize will be given in the event that such an entry is a winning entry.

(6) Entries will be accepted until midnight on Sunday, August 13, 2017; after that date, we will accept no new submissions.

New Poniverse Mascot Profiles

The following mascots are newcomers to Poniverse, as they belong to Canterlot Avenue, the successor to brony role play site PonySquare and social media site BronySquare.  There is virtually no background on these characters yet, other than the fact that they may be sisters, and they function as the day and night mascots of Canterlot Avenue, respectively.  No author is required to utilize them, but if you do, you have the opportunity to establish canon background for them if your fic is good enough.  With that said, meet Honey Suckle and Stellar Night, created by MLP Forums very own Sugar Hymn (whose DA profile can be found here: BittiBones)!

As stated, there is virtually nothing established about these two (even the idea that they're sisters isn't established yet), so you are free to go crazy with them however you wish, IF you decide to use them, that is.

Hey, gotta start somewhere, and an idea is normally the place to start.   Like I said, don't be afraid of trying, fanfiction is really not too tough if you devote enough time to a story and let it grow in your head.

Hey, if you think you have a story up your sleeves that's just dying to get out, go for it!  People sometimes overthink things before even starting a fic and think it'll be much harder than it really is, but if you care enough about it, it's really not that hard.

While I was on my long 'non drawing but learning' session, I once watched manga artist live drawing.. I doubted at first and continued to use one line, but now all my manes and tails are based on these two curved lines  A very nice way of drawing flowing things like hair, because while being seemingly simple, it has a mass to it and able to show a lot more than one line at a time 

That's a really great and unique piece of advice, and a really cool story as to how you learned it and picked it up, I'm glad it's worked out so well for you!

Oh that's fantastic!  I've noticed that most of your art so far are solo-pieces, do you have plans to attempt doing art with multiple characters down the road?

Also, I've commented on this before on your art, but how do you do such a phenomenal job on the ponies manes and tails?  You seem to just have a fantastic command over hair in general, which I imagine is something that is very difficult for many artists (and I have seen this within this fandom many, many times), but it's not just a command, you seem to love using their manes and tails to make the characters even more expressive!

Random, silly question, but I just have to ask, what inspired your hilarious and ridiculously adorable pic of AJ with a chicken on her head?  It is so randomly cute and funny, cracks me up every time I see it!  

Got another art question for ya: what is the most important element for you in any piece?  Capturing or conveying a certain expression you're going for with a character, conveying a certain feeling or emotion in the colors you use both with the subject and background, or something else entirely?

Do you have any professional aspirations with your art, or do you intend to strictly keep it as a hobby?  Or do you even hope to like sell prints at a pony convention at some point?  I think people would gobble your art up at a con if it were on sale.

That's super cool that you use music to help lead you along as you're drawing something.  I can almost even see that within your art, I'd say.

So since I'm a fanfiction writer myself, I do have to ask if you read any MLP fanfiction on Fimfiction?  If so, do you have a favorite genre?
