I see people talking fondly about current Disney &
Cartoon Network shows but I guess Nickelodeon isn’t as good as it used to be.

Yeah, that's not a good thing. (I'm a marketing major, and I hate when good things get under advertised). But at least Nick is willing to put out some quality animations from time to time.
Cartoon Network has become famous for being the kings of cheaply-made animation. It's why we rarely get well-made cartoons from them anymore, and more often than not, the good ones get canceled before their time. Too expensive produce, toy sales not doing so well, etc. Pick your excuse, it's still about the people at CN being cheap.
And Disney has their faults too. They might be willing to make some good cartoons here and there, but they have a control issue. If they show pride in any of their shows or movies, then they are SUPER protective of it. Otherwise, if they produce or make a show they don't care about, the quality could end up all over the place.
At this point, each network has their own faults. It really is a matter of deciding which you think is the lesser of many evils.
