  1. Heh, that makes sense. Honestly neither deserves their reputation, they're only dangerous when threatened.
  2. I do find the flying squirrel thing funny, but I personally support her getting a crow or raven. Extremely intelligent, morally ambiguous, associated with wisdom and dark magic. Sunset already has a gecko, let's not give fans more reason to compare them.
  3. The Mane 6 not getting so much attention makes perfect sense to me, because they have the movie! Given that, I feel it's the perfect opportunity to flesh out the side characters in the series proper. Rainbow Dash really needs... something though. As mentioned, season 6 sucked for her, and she's barely been in this one. Season 7 has rescued Twilight for me though. She's been boring and almost irrelevant for ages, yet she's had loads of appearances in this one. Rarity's lack of appearances don't bother me, because season 6 had her in every other episode. Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie seem to be on par with every other season. Applejack... well she's not doing too bad, considering one of her episodes is considered the season's best.
  4. Nothing has broken my theory that the Mane 6 were originally connected to the map (as they created it), and Spike and Starlight were connected to it when they used it to time travel in 'Cutie Remark'. Trixie might have done the same when she teleported it, but I really doubt it. When it calls Mrs Cake I'll have to revise this theory, but since that hasn't happened yet...
  5. Personally I thought the regular changlings were the least sympathetic characters in the episode. The fact that they all become like Thorax when he's in charge, and were like Chrysalis when she was in charge, does not speak well of their sense of identity and pride. Nor the fact that they were all violently intolerant of any opposing viewpoints (where Thorax at least tried to understand his brother). For all their development, they're still kind of a hive mind of weak willed drones. You know, given his treatment of his brother I think Pharynx was one of the most noble and sympathetic Changlings back then. I feel he probably despised Chrysalis for her self serving ways, but remained loyal to her because she was still the strongest leader they had. As he said, he's loyal to the hive above all else. I think this is why he's the only one who hasn't changed. He's not doing things because someone tells him to, or because it's easy or satisfying. He does things because he believes they're right, and that sense of honor is far more resistant to change than simple self interest. I don't think he cared if the dumb ponies got eaten, but Thorax is the leader of the hive, his brother... and likely someone he still thinks of as a wimp. He doesn't want him anywhere near a fight.
  6. I think I had too much invested in these stories, especially Rockhoof (who's comic I adored). It made it very hard to be objective, and enjoy the episode on it's own merits. Still, I really enjoyed it.
  7. Here we are, the Pegasus/Griffon Border.
  8. Apparently (well, according to the really dubiously canon card game, but I like the idea) Private Pansy never rose above private, and was more a lover than a fighter. This makes me think (along with her not appearing in the Journal) that her role as Commander Hurricanes' second in command is a function of Economy Cast and she didn't really have much to do with him. She was inserted into that role because she was important to the Hearth's Warming Eve celebration.
  9. Hurricane is male, the rest were female. Private Pansy doesn't actually appear, though we do have a semi-official picture of her.
  10. Word of god is that Celestia and Luna are natural born alicorns, but even that's incredibly vague. I always liked the idea that cabal of powerful magic users transformed ponies into alicorns while they were still in the womb, but that's pure headcanon with no evidence behind it. The Journal of Two Sisters isn't super detailed for the record. The most interesting things in it? Zebra just past the Everfree forest (likely where Dodge City and Appleloosa are now), the first reference to Queen Amore of the Crystal Empire and that the Crystal Heart was from a Dragon Hoard, that Celestia and Luna are not immortal, but very long lived, that the Unicorns originally raised the sun and moon, and Equestria was a federation to begin with and Celestia and Luna were invited to be impartial overseers. Also that Chancellor Puddinghead and Commander Hurricane were heavily flanderised in that play (in fact Luna disliked Smart Cookie, and thought Puddinghead was a really good leader). Princess Platinum on the other hoof was still a stuck up little brat (and it was her Father, King Bullion, who was actually in charge).
  11. It was quite a trek from the station! Time for a whole Twilight lecture on the history of the area and a 'long journey' montage, though I imagine it would be easier if you could fly. And it was "No alicorn before Flurry Heart had been born in Equestria." Since Celestia and Luna predate Equestria, and might have founded it (depending on when you count the offical founding of the country), neither would have been born there. Heaven knows what happened to the rest of them though.
  12. The line does stop a fair way before Griffonstone though, and it's rather badly maintained. It's quite possible it was built during a peaceful time between Equestria and the Griffons, and Celestia still maintains it for Griffons traveling back and forth from their old home. It's also the one easy access between this continent and the next, so it's likely of interest for scholars and explorers. Bet Daring Doo's used it a couple of times. Manehatten and Fillydephia are never mentioned in books occurring back during the period directly following Hearth's Warming, so I can definitely see the Griffons holding those areas back then. As an aside, the Griffon's argument during the Journal of Two Sisters is a doozy. They had a treaty with Pegasopolis to keep away from their borders, yet soon after Equestria was formed they immediately started to seize territory. Celestia went to demand an explanation, and the Griffons argued that their treaty was with Pegasopolis. Now that country no longer existed all their territory was null and void and ripe for the taking, and all treaties no longer applied. If Celestia wanted treaties for Equestria, she would have to renegotiate them with the new borders. Fortunately Luna saved the day before Celestia atomized the jerk.
  13. Well considering said upcoming episodes... both? What's strange is that they haven't interacted with him at the same time yet. Starlight and Spike are really close, yet Thorax always seems to catch them alone.
  14. The Legends of Harmony comics and Journey of the Two Sisters book seems to strongly indicate the griffons had territory across the main Equestria continent back during the early days of Equestria, near Cloudsdale and across a river that indicated the borderline. That river is likely the one that runs by Canterlot, which means they used to hold a significant part of the country! That's... really damn sad. I wonder if given this those Griffons in the Equestrian games are actually Equestria citizens from one of the towns on the main continent, that stuck around after Equestria annexed their territory. Griffonstone is certainly described like a sovereign kingdom.
