  Yeah, the one story that I found about how she became an alicorn was from a non-canon source, so we'll never know the canon origin story for Cadance. Tbf tho we don't even have an origin story for Luna or Celestia, so I guess that's pretty normal for princesses

  I like the idea of a pegasus becoming an alicorn, which supposedly happened to Cadance (though it was never mentioned on the show). Also makes it seem a bit fairer, with how big an advantage unicorns can get from magic...

  @Tacodidra Makes sense that Cadance used to be a pegasus, since she isn't that gifted in magic even as an alicorn. Many unicorns can surpass her with enough effort.
  
  Tbf we've only see one unicorn turn into a alicorn in the show (Luna and Celestia may have been aliens for all we know), so yeah it's nice that there is balance.
  
  Without balance, everything comes crashing down (just ask the Jedi about that )
