  1. I'll comment as I go along.

    ------

Disagree with a great deal of what they say about Applejack. She has very pronounced character flaws in her stubbornness, her need to not let anybody down, her abrasiveness when arguing with others, her overprotectiveness of her little sister, her tendency to go "too far" while doing otherwise understandable things, and probably more that I haven't even mentioned. I also disagree with writing these things off as being "moments when she's furthest from herself" or, however they said it in the video. It seems like their interpretation of AJ and their need to constantly fit her into the role of the straight man has prevented them from appreciating the unique quirks and character flaws that she brings to the table. Also Leap of Faith is bleh and greatly inferior to Apple Family Reunion.

    ------

Fluttershy I agree with somewhat, though Scare Master also felt pretty rehash-y, and they didn't mention that when praising her performance in S5.

    ------

"Pinkie is the only character whose presence can have a worsening effect on an episode"

Eh. There are some stories she wouldn't fit into well, but that can surely be said of every other character in the series. Also, while their commenters may not have mentioned her role outside of comic relief, those roles do exist and deserve analysis in their own right. It seems that like with Applejack, the other character they complain is lacking fleshed out stories, they decided that Pinkie was "the funny character" and chose to stop analyzing her after that point.

    ------

And wow that comment about Rarity was borrowed from somewhere and I've read it like 400 times. Don't disagree with it in the least, but still. And I really hope their criticism of people who bash on attention seekers and drama queens is still relevant when Dash's segment rolls around ^_^

    ------

Nice, they didn't bash on Dash for needing attention and being dramatic while praising Rares for doing the same.

"RD has the least tertiary characteristics"

Kinda unimpressed with this criticism You could bring up her enjoyment of books and musicals, her struggles with learning, her tendency to put her heroes up on a pedestal and to doubt herself in comparison, her own lingering issues as a result of being bullied at flight camp, her fear of failure etc, but it's hard to define a "tertiary" characteristic or to find characteristics that work completely independently from everything else about a character. Are Twilight's anxiety and Pinkie's tendency to fall apart when she feels unneeded or unwanted somehow unconnected to their "primary" characteristics? Not at all, and it's the same with Rainbow. But yeah, I liked the first half of their analysis :).

    ------

I wouldn't call Twilight bland in Season 1. If anything, I thought she was worse in Seasons 3 and 4, generally speaking, because during that period she had very few mundane episodes that gave her the chance to deal with personal and relatable problems. As for "that's the fault of the writer, not the fault of the character" , I think it's really questionable to ever place the blame inherently on the character. Bad writing is bad writing, and it seems odd to act as though some characters are to blame for being poorly written, but that others like Twilight cannot be .

    ---------

    Final (and original ranking) is

    1: Rainbow Dash

    2: Applejack

    3: Pinkie Pie

    4: Twilight

    5: Rarity

    6: Fluttershy

Rarity, Twilight and Flutters flip flop in my rankings all the time, though. They're all great

  2. I read an interesting (and very creepy) fanfic that suggested that it was caused by somebody wearing the Alicorn Amulet. Thing's supposed to corrupt people more and more as they keep using it. If a few days wearing it turned Trixie from an arrogant, goofy performer into somebody who'd whip kids and try cooking people with lightning, I can only imagine what it'd do to somebody who kept it on for longer than that.

  3. Lately, I've realized that I just might be asexual. Quite possibly aromantic as well, though I'm much less sure about that one. All of that stuff sounds pretty nice, but the idea of taking part in it myself is becoming less and less appealing. This confused and worried me for a while, but I've decided not to get hung up about it. If it happens, it happens, and life'll go on if it doesn't.

I ate all the watermelon and popcorn-flavored jelly beans too.

  4. While Twily's status as the "main" main character isn't really deniable, I have wondered whether there's any reason to give her top billing anymore. She was the main character initially because she was Celestia's student and (presumably) had the most to learn about friendship. However, after Lesson Zero destroyed the Season 1 model of doing things, everybody felt like equals to me. That's why the change of direction in Season 3 and her promotion to princess confused me so much, because it was going against the grain of what they did with Season 2. After it was established that every character's journey and growth was important to the show, it seemed obnoxious to then go back and decide Twilight's journey was somehow more important than everybody else's.

Another thing that affected my dislike of the Twi-focus in big plot episodes was how, for a while there, they weren't giving her much focus in chiller episodes. A friend and I even had this sort of sad running joke about how Twilight could never get slice of life episodes :derp:. Thankfully, as of Testing, Testing, 1 2 3, Amending Fences and other episodes in Season 5, that trend has died. I think while watching Testing Testing, I even said to myself "Twily! You're back  ". Because she's actually one of my favorite characters in those settings. If I've ever said "Too much Twilight" it's been because I want more stuff like the episodes above, and less of "you are the the special chosen one, enjoy your big magic castle thing".

  5. I don't know if I'd say SoL felt like a fan animation. While it featured background characters, it was a relaxing and fun episode that had a lot of heart in it.

If I had to pick out better examples, I'd name the Twilight vs. Tirek fight in Twilight's Kingdom and the battle against the Tantabus in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?. Which isn't to say that those were necessarily bad episodes, it's just that Twilight absorbing everybody's magic and using it to blow up mountains and fight some kind of demonic figure sounds very fanfic-y. And as for the latter example, it was extremely surreal and packed with memes :derp:.

  6.

What do you consider your greatest weakness and your greatest strength ?

I consider myself to be able to see many sides of issues and arguments, which I feel helps me to be empathetic and decent at understanding people and where they're coming from. On the other hand, this can paralyze me when I have to pick one side over another. I'm often compelled to play devil's advocate when I feel one side of an argument isn't getting a fair treatment (even when I disagree with that side), which I'm sure can be aggravating.

Outside of MLP:FiM, what's your favourite wesrern animation TV show?

    Currently airing: Gravity Falls

Ever: Avatar the Last Airbender, with the old Justice League cartoon slightly behind it.

Don't tell anybody, but I prefer these to MLP

  7.

How do you feel you've changed over the last 5 years, if at all?

I'm more motivated than I used to be, for one. I also think I'm better at dealing with people (still not fantastic, but most anything would be an improvement tbh). I also think I'm better at defending my opinions, and less afraid of confrontation. Which is a good and a bad thing, but I still try my best to avoid hurting other people when I disagree with them. All in all, I think I've improved a lot. Often doesn't feel like it because I feel there's still so much more growth I have to do, but I'm proud of how I've changed for the most part.

On the other hand, I'm worse than I used to be at tennis :(.

    • Brohoof 4
  8.

On a scale of 1-10, why am I your favourite?

One of my favorite tennis tournaments takes place in your country. That's worth something :P

more srsly, you're pretty cool. You've got a good heart and I'm glad you've stuck around.

You don't get a number because I'm stingy with those.

Seriously though, if you could have one wish come true what would it be?

World peace and understanding between people would be nice. But only if I could trust that the genie wasn't one of those jackass genies who would be like "hmmm... the world would be peaceful if everyone was DEAD :o:lol: ".

I don't think I'd trust the person offering me a wish enough to make a wish at all.

  9.

Since you said you like Kill La Kill, and that happens to be my favorite anime, who's your favorite character from that show?

That's a tough one. I liked Ryuko most for most of my first viewing, then I really warmed up to Satsuki . My friend watched the series recently, and while discussing it with him I realized that Mako was a wonderful character (and human being), and that I'd really overlooked her before :(. I'd need to rewatch to pick a definitive fave, but those three are all great.

What do you think of, Applejack x Rainbow Blitz? OWO

Tis okie. I used to not be the biggest fan of AppleDash (and by extension, AJ/Blitz) but now I think it's kinda cute.

On a scale of 1-10, how much do you like lions?

Maybe like a 9. They're one of the most adorable types of predator in the world :)

  10. If you were able to give the 13 year old you advice on 'how to adult' based on your experiences, what would it be?

    • When somebody tries to give you advice, listen. Even if they won't always be right, chances are they know something that could help you.
    • Challenge yourself. You won't be a natural at everything you try, but nobody is. Hard work will trump being a "natural" most every day of the week
    • Get a job. Money is good, and there's a lot you can learn even from a minimum wage retail job.
    • Don't withdraw when you struggle. Even if showing weakness is scary, being able to honestly say "I'm feeling sad" or "I need help" will save you a lot of trouble down the road.
    • Don't be so invested in and conscious of what everyone else thinks of you. Don't do anything stupid or embarrass yourself, but you'll miss out on so much if you only do what everyone else expects or wants you to do.
    • Be able to accept criticism, though. You're going to make mistakes, and feedback from others can be a valuable resource for not repeating those mistakes over and over and over...
    • Do your best. You don't need to be perfect, but trying hard is cool :)

There're many many many many more things I'd like to tell my younger self, but those are the ones that pertain most to adulthood :P.

  11.

Jokes on you, KLK is my second favorite anime. :P

    Ah!

Thanks!! One last question hmm... Night Owl or Morning Bird?

No problem, and historically... definitely a night owl. I'd often turn it at 3 in the morning a few years ago, but recently I've scaled it back and tried to have a slightly more normal sleep schedule :adorkable:. I've woken up at seven for the past three days :D. Hope I can keep it up.

Would you rather eat spaghetti or throw it out the window?

Uh, eat it? Unless it's been poisoned or something

@DashForever, Do you have any pets?

I do! An old, very lazy dog named Rex. He's a corgi/lab mix, so just picture a lab with very short legs :derp:. Bit of a pain in the butt, but I love the little rascal. Spent a long time petting him and scratching his ears this afternoon.

  12.

Well, I am safely back home with my family, dog, and kitties to celebrate Thanksgiving

    Sounds cozy :D

If the ponies (not just the Mane 6, the ponies in general) celebrated Thanksgiving, who would enjoy it/look forward to it the most and why? :rarity:

I'm thinking AJ. It's a pretty low-key holiday revolving around family and lots and lots of food, and that sounds like an Applejack thing. Pinkie would be super into it too, but she'd be super into any holiday :P

How can you have such a good taste in games in anime?

F-flattery will get you nowhere

Duuuuude favorite K-On! character and why?

    U20aD5w.jpg

Ritsu is my favorite because she's just so darn funny . Every character in K-ON is amazing, and there're some I relate to more than her (cough cough Yui cough), but Ritsu's various antics never failed to get me giggling. And she's a big old sweetie too :). Love her relationship with Mio.

  13. Is there actually a possible way to be comfortable in an uncomfortable position? I just tried to sit half naked with an open window on a hard chair, while playing smash bros. It sucks. :P

My profile motto is a metaphorical thing, dude :(. It's about challenging yourself and stuff :(

and now it seems I need to add a disclaimer about how I won't be legally liable if you take its advice and do something unsafe

    Favorite anime .gif and meme?

    tumblr_lp6s9sOc721qlxni6.gif

    don't worry, he was ok

    As for memes/image macros/whatever~

    AkHKOHY.jpg

How many languages do you speak?

Only English, and a teensy bit of Spanish that won't be of much help to me if I actually have to have a conversation with somebody. I'd like to learn more.

Dash, what is your best po- oh.

My username is so darn informative :D. Who needs an About Me when I can just convey everything important about myself through a name?

    • Brohoof 5
  14. A simple question but; what led you to Rainbow Dash fanaticism in the first place? B)

She's been best pony ever since her intro scene, for me :). I really liked her energy, and eventually came to appreciate many of her other attributes as well.

And why was @Mystery so insistent on having you voted for in the recent ban poll?

I've been trying to ban him for over two years, so I guess he finally saw a chance to strike back

you're one of the biggest weebs I know. <3

    I'm blushing rn

Can you give me a list of your top five favorite anime?

If you're looking for recommendations, I'll just stick to stuff I think you haven't seen :P

    • K-ON! is a good show. I like to think of it as being like the MLP of Japan. There aren't really morals to episodes or anything like that, so it feels much less structured. Despite this, they flesh out the characters very well and it's just a great thing to watch if you want something chill. 39ish episodes and a movie.
    • Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's a 2deep4u mecha show that deals with a lot of characters who have depression and other lingering mental issues. It's a good show, especially if you can relate to any of that. Even if you can't, it's still considered a classic. Not super lighthearted, so keep that in mind :P. 26 episodes and a movie.
    • Chuunibyou, sort of halfway between the two things I just mentioned. Basically, this dude who was a total weirdo in middle school meets this girl who is still a total weirdo, and they form a club for people who are (or were) weirdos. It's a chill, slice of life show but there's more going on than there appears to be initially, and things get emotional toward the end. But overall, the show balances comedy with drama very well. Two short seasons, but I haven't watched the second.
    • Kill la Kill, sort of a weird one. It's like a magical girl-ish show that's a bit all over the place. It deals with big, reaching themes like freedom vs. authoritarianism, society's expectations for girls, growing up, etc, but... it also doesn't. It's a very high energy show that has a lot of emotion, conflict, and (most controversially) very revealing outfits. Because of this, sites like Tumblr are a bit divided over whether it's a progressive, uplifting and smart show, or if it's just using those elements to get away with a lot of sexualized scenes and violence. I won't say there's a right side in that debate, but I did like the show. 26ish episodes, I want to say?
    • Hibike! Euphonium, lesbians in a high school band. Also features really good animation and attention to detail, when it comes to the instruments and such. 13 episodes.

I'll get to more questions later. Thanks everybody :)

    • Brohoof 5
  15. If you have one, what is your favorite episode in FiM? :)

Testing, Testing, 1 2 3 is my favorite. Aside from having a great message and just being solid all around, I could relate to Dash's struggles in that episode particularly well.

Why do you decide to join these forums in the first place?

I found out I liked pone

I wanted to talk about pone

Google gave me suggestions for forums to talk about pone

    First place didn't work out

    I came here instead

    it was better

and I talked much about pone

What made you join the staff in the first place? :nom:

They needed help and asked nicely :D. Also ties into the "What does the forum mean to you?" question, which I answered earlier :)

  16. I'll go with a simple favorite video game/series?

Tough to say, since I really don't game much. I'll list off a few series' I've enjoyed, but I have no idea what my favorite game overall is anymore.

Pokemon, just because Pokemon. The craze swept the nation when I was little, and I still have great memories of all the time I spent playing (and replaying) those games. Even if I'm not as into them as I once was, I still like to hijack my brother's games (with his permission  ) and give newer titles a try. HeartGold was such a good game

Fire Emblem. I'm a scrub who hasn't played Awakening or some of the newer games yet (stopped after Radiant Dawn), but have plans to check out some of the current titles. Once spent a large part of summer grinding through Radiant Dawn's hard mode, with my siblings hanging out to chat and mock me when the RNG (repeatedly) decided to screw me over :derp:. Those were the days.

Less well known is the Megaman Battle Network series. For what they were, they had great storylines, and they always had loads of content and side quests to tackle after you'd worked your way through the main plot. Series kind of overstayed its welcome (and declined after the third version) but I can still have a great time messing around with them.

oh, and Dangan Ronpa and Kingdom Hearts rock even though I've never actually played the mainline games  :adorkable:

by now it should be obvious that most of my gaming has taken place on the GBA. Never had consoles (besides the Wii) growing up, and therefore ended up being a very very casual gamer. Recent years have given me the chance to learn all sorts of things about the gaming world though, like "what's a Skyrim?" and "what are good graphics?"

Got another fun one for ya buddy. Alright, get this: if each member of the Mane 6 were in an anime show, what anime show would they each be in? :sunbutt: Feel free to assign shows to other characters outside of the Mane 6 as well. :icwudt:

Hm, tough for some of them.

Rainbow Dash: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I think many would agree that this show's philosophy is very RD. One Piece might work too, since it's about exploring the world and bravely chasing your dreams.

Fluttershy: Puella Magi Madoka Magica, because endless suffering she'd probably feel perfectly at home in a show like K-ON!

    Applejack: Spice and Wolf, maybe?

Rarity: Toughie. Suppose she'd be great in the Dangan Ronpa series, what with her being a quirky sleuth and all. Super High School Level Fashionista!

Pinkie: She'd work as a side character in a lot of things (Kill la Kill was an option I considered) but I could see her in a show like Chuunibyou.

Twilight: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, mostly because of how she was in earlier seasons. At it's core, that show is about a cynical, snarky bastard learning to appreciate all the nutty people that he spends time with.

Spike: Neon Genesis Evangelion, because endless suffering. Also because Eva Unit 01 has his color scheme

    eva_unit_01_wallpaper_1_of_3_by_jodec123

Luna: Sailor Moon, duh. "IN THE NAME OF THE MOON, I WILL PUNISH YOU!" (Dramatic pose)

  17. Alright buddy, first question: who would win in a race between Rainbow Dash and Derpy... while Derpy is being goaded on with a muffin hung in front of her face from a stick? CHOOSE WISELY!

I think we both know that Derpy'd find a way to eat the muffin long before she reached the finish line ;)

Dash, what do you think of Simon's fall :D?

Disappointed, in a way. Rewind time a few years and I'd have won that poll by at least fifty votes. But times have changed and I'm but a shell of my former self :(

What do you think of your role on the forums :)?

It's pretty cool. I've been somewhat busy and all over the place at times in recent months and years, and I really appreciate how patient everyone has been with me. Other than that, not a whole lot to say. I think I've gotten a bit better at managing the pressures my role once made me feel, and at balancing my work here with my responsibilities elsewhere. Forums are still a pretty cool place, and I'm glad to have the chance to hopefully help keep them that way.

What does the forums mean to you ^^?

They're where I met a lot of my best friends, and I'll always appreciate that. Having been here a long time, I've seen just how many people this place has helped bring together, and one of my sincerest wishes is for MLPF to keep kicking off friendships that last, and that help people grow too.

    Do you like zeeeeeeee RariDash?

    tumblr_nx7irwdOIs1s7snf2o4_540.png

    Who wouldn't?

I've (sort of) shipped it for several years. It started out as a joke, but these two just have so darn much in common. And their episode this season proved that they compliment one another nicely, and that they have a fun dynamic. Definitely want to see more of this pair in future seasons.
