How did the crystal ponies become crystal?

Are Crystal ponies  different than earth ponies in power form? Reason why I ask is because tirek never mentioned controlling the Crystal ponies. :l

 

We've seen a Crystal Pegasus already in the show. (And a few crystal unicorns, but only in crowds.) Kinda hints that no, Crystal Ponies are not a distinct type of pony on their own. They incorporate an Earth, Unicorn and Pegasus variety, so when Tirek stole each of those kinds of magic, presumably he was taking it from the Crystal Ponies as well.

Fair point, though I wonder if that means crystal pegasi are distinct from their non-crystal brethren then?

 

Either that, or crystal ponies are just simply sub-type of the major pony types.

Well, my personal headcanon is that any foal born within the Crystal Empire (under the Crystal Heart's sphere of power) is born a Crystal Pony, regardless of parentage. So that foal could be a Crystal Pegasus or Unicorn, but the regular kind of Crystal Pony is far more common. (The area could have been first settled by a group which was mostly Earth Ponies and only a few Unicorn/Pegasi.)

 

They would be considered a sub-type of Equestrian ponies in that way, but their link to the Crystal Heart does give them slightly different powers, mostly related to emotion and empathy.

AHHHH, now I get yah! I can see that making sense overall.

 

They are still related to the regular Equestrian varieties; just that the Crystal Heart is the main difference between them. That'll work for me.

A) They were born that way

B ) they were normal and Sombra cursed them.

In my opinion it's just one of the races, though rather rare one. I don't think that they somehow became the way they are Though it seems like a good idea for a fan-fic. Besides, it's one of the questions, which were never answered in the show, so if someone has a headcanon that crystal ponies were created in a certain way, it's fine.

Quite true. There's no real cannonical explanation so who's to say what's wrong or right. (Unless it involves something that is defintley not plausible for the show. Unless it's a crack headcanon, those are always hilarious...okay not always but usually.)
