Suzie Indigo 8 June 21, 2014 Share June 21, 2014 I think there should be more people working for this site, because every member on this site should be monitored, some may be mean and can be lead to cyber-bullying others one day. I know it is very hard for you guys to monitor many people here on this site. Why not tell everyone not to be mean or they will be reported to the owners or moderators of the site. Everyone who has been treated badly here or had been bullied. Please inform the owners/moderators as soon as possible!
SCS 7,537 June 21, 2014 Share June 21, 2014 We do our best to prevent and deal with cyberbullying and other negative behavior here, but we couldn't possibly monitor everyone. That wouldn't be practical, and I honestly wouldn't like the idea of that anyway. I don't want people to feel like they have to be monitored all the time. We're here to ensure that people have a safe and fun experience, not to watch everyone constantly. I do understand where you're coming from though, but even if we had a thousand moderators we couldn't feasibly monitor everyone and everything that goes on here. That being said, we do invite additional moderators as needed in order to ensure that the current moderation team isn't being overworked.
Shanks 10,816 June 21, 2014 Share June 21, 2014 (edited) While I have long advocated for more moderators/admins on this stie due to concerns of this slew of resignations that has happened in the last year or so and my concerns over burnout being expressed by these formed mods/admins I don't think it is possible or necessary to monitor absolutely everyone at all times no matter what. There are thousands of members on this site with active members being at least in the hundreds if I were to take my guess so even if you doubled or even tripled the site staff I just don't think it is realistic. The purpose of moderation should be to take care of problem users, innapropriate content and mitigate disputes not to be a mini big brother over everyones shoulders. We the average members can do a lot though, be mindful of what we post. Calm down and try not to rage too much in posts and maybe come back later or avoid certain topics all together. Report abusive behavior and try to be polite and courteous to everyone are just a few things that come to mind. Frith is Magick 1,471 July 22, 2014 Share July 22, 2014 Why not tell everyone not to be mean or they will be reported to the owners or moderators of the site. There is already a report feature, and in my experience the moderators and staff have always responded quite promptly. It is not feasible to have moderators everywhere all the time, but with the report feature members can bring anything that violates the site rules, including abusive behavior, to their attention. Additionally, as has been stated many times before, hiring more moderators is easier said than done; it is a matter of finding the right people who are also willing to put the extra time and effort in for free, making the list of candidates very short. No matter where you go there will be bullying of some sort, and while having a couple more people on the team might ease the workload, the response here has yet to seem lacking. If more staff are needed anywhere, it's in the technical department, poor Lavo... Keep flyin'
King 5,625 July 22, 2014 Share July 22, 2014 (edited) This won't be happening.Let be honest, some people can act in inappropriate manners, whether it be abusive or trolling. However, we give members enough trust that they will act in a way appropriate for the site, if they don't, then they are dealt with as per the rules.Thats how it will remain, watching people 24/7 seems like an invasion of the trust we give and in the end will only drive people away from the site.
