Are Apple family members as interchangable as any other background pony?

I was just watching the scene where Twilight meets Applejack and I noticed that quite a few members we've met over the course of the show (Braeburn and uncle Apple Strudel for example) were missing and moreover, that scene makes the Apple family seem predominately female, even though the family has been shown to have quite a few stallions in the mix.

Mmh, if you're talking about the first episode, there's something I don't understand: why would Braeburn be in Sweet Apple Acres if he lives in Appleloosa?

Well, during the first episode, it was one of the Apple Family Reunions.

Their absence was likely due to setting up a new town. They appear in the 2nd reunion episode.

I don't think every member of the apple family is able to attend the reunion 100% of the time. So those too probably couldn't make it.
