Name: Magnus Light

Age: 21 (Young Adult)

Gender: Male

Species: Unicorn

 

Appearance: Somewhat orange colored Unicorn with a shorter blue, unsettled mane with a streak of yellow on the right side. Magnus has a pretty strong body physique but more of a toned, athletic rather than a bulky farmer type. He's slightly taller than the average Stallion but not enough to be noticeable. He has a rounded head with a chiseled, square type snout. His ears are rounded and pointed up sharply to the tip.

 

Cutie Mark: The Cutie Mark is pictured above. It is an ornate sword with two lightning bolts intersecting it. It represents Magnus' ability with control over sparks and the ability to conduct those sparks into anything he desires. His name "Light" comes from this ability. Magnus attained the Cutie Mark after powering his best friend's life support systems during a power outage for 48 hours without food, water, or rest.

 

Personality: Magnus is a very loyal and ambitious Unicorn. He tends to branch out and befriend many ponies but still likes to keep his personal feelings to himself. Magnus believes that showing any emotions of sadness or anger will only be a drawback to anything he does so Magnus tries to keep a neutral face with only a smirk or frown in place of his emotions. Incredibly ambitious and tenacious, Magnus can get on a pony's nerves but a loyal friend nonetheless, at least on the outside.

 

On the inside, Magnus can be an incredibly judgmental and emotional pony. He immediately establishes who he can trust and can't from the beginning of meeting a pony and tries not to have really close bonds with ponies he just met. Although Magnus doesn't show it, he's also pretty emotional. Jealousy and sadness can overwhelm him but Magnus pushes it back. Once in a while though, he bursts out in an emotional rampage if provoked.

 

Backstory: Born to one of the most powerful families in Canterlot, Magnus' life was decided from him from the beginning. He was meant to take classes for only the richest and most influential Unicorns and then take a high level position in Princess Luna's Court. Magnus was a prodigy from the beginning. He wasn't the best at magic but he was still good enough for his parents to consider him to be the heir to their family tree.

 

As Magnus entered the Academy, his skills with magic was shifted to one place. Sparks. Other than the basic writing and levitation skills all Unicorns possess, Magnus was considered the worst of the prodigy Unicorns. He couldn't master any spells of teleportation, illusion, conjuring objects, or any other forms of magic. Despite that however, Magnus excelled in his studies and learned to use his ability to create and maintain sparks to an incredibly strong degree.

 

However, Magnus flat out refused to attend a Manners class because he thought of it to be a waste of time and irrelevant to academics. Magnus was mostly ridiculed and berated as a "commoner" and turned down from all cliques. He eventually befriended another pony from a fairly poor family in Ponyville who only got in from his rich relative. His name was Strawberry Quill.

 

From birth, Magnus was already an emotional pony who would cry as a little kid and lash out as a teen. But after meeting the poor pony, Magnus held in his emotions for Strawberry's sake to act like a big brother to him. The daily ridicules and bullying did take its toll, especially one day.

 

When Strawberry was put on life support in a hospital following a bad disease, the power went out while Magnus was visiting. Magnus, unwilling to lose his only friend, poured his ability into the machine for two days without rest or food. It attained Magnus his Cutie Mark but his friend was transferred out of the school and back to his village.

 

After that incident, the stress of Canterlot wasn't tolerable by Magnus. He left Canterlot, searching for a life and giving up his inheritance.

 

Other: As stated above, Magnus is bad with magic. His ability is all that he can do. However, the more emotional and stressed out Magnus gets, the stronger his magic becomes and the more uncontrollable it becomes. Magnus' spark ability can be used as a weapon and is primarily used as a defense tool or to start fires.
