movies/tv What do you think of Confused Matthew

Matthew is an amateur film critic online and he is well know for his Lion King, Back to the Future 2, Matrix and Minority Report reviews, which are infamous. I used to like him way back in 2007-2010. But lately as I have been growing older, I noticed he's not really that good. But I also question his persona while he reviews. It;s unique to question things in movies step by step. But he injects this cynicism, nihilism and just non human like attributes into his reviews.

Case in point was his Lion King review. The following quote(paraphrase) " It's a little kid who lost his dad, That should be a default emotional reaction for someone who lost a parent." It's like he as to place emotion as an object. I actually loath and hate it, when other humans try to copyright feeling and make it like this area that humans ignorantly think they know 100% about.

What is your take on Matthew? He could be a really nice person. But in recent years, I have changed my views on him.

Never heard of him, but from that quote, he sounds quite ignorant of the fact that Simba's dad was very special to him.

I used to watch some of his reviews, but he quickly went from being "Confused" Matthew to "Angry" Matthew.  My problem with his reviews is that he doesn't take any sort of objective stance to any movie he is reviewing.  He mostly whines and/or yells about his personal issues with a movie because it didn't fit his personal vision.  I stopped watching his reviews after he reviewed Spirited Away.  He basically spent the entire review complaining about not being about to understand the point of the movie and hated it because of that.  In fact, I can tell that's how he feels about most movies because a lot of his reviews feel like he doesn't pay attention to the movies he watches.

I found it particulary amusing that he couldn't tell what was going during the opening space battle of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge.  Not just the battle, but he was complaining he didn't know what anyone was doing and used that as a negative toward the movie.  I mean, really?  The movies tells us, literally on the screen, exactly what going.  I wonder what it's like for him when he watches a foreign movie with only subtitles, since he clearly doesn't read what's on screen.

Matthew just comes off childish and complains when he doesn't get his way.

He's actually WAAAY to objective. He micromanages every aspect of a movie and can't think in a 3D manner. I am ok with him expressing himself. I hear he is a brony now and I am actually waiting to see what he thinks about the show. Then again, I am pretty sure he is going to go overboard with all the characters.

EDIT: I also know he has a very odd view in terms of philosophy. He used the word pseudo-philosophy in a review at one time. Pseudo philosophy is nihilism. He said that the author of Simulacra and Simulation meant nothing( the book that inspired The Matrix allegedly, even though historically it was Plato's Shadows on the Wall )

I'm a big fan of The Lion King, and his hateful review of that movie didn't bother me one bit.

I actually find his cynicism humorous. It doesn't agitate me at all; I just sit back and laugh at the points he brings up. To me, he doesn't sound like he's really serious. He sounds like he's exaggerating for effect.

He brings up some points, and while I don't agree with many of them, I actually enjoyed watching his reviews. He's dry and sarcastic in the way he presents his unique perspective; for some reason I actually like that.
