The Ability To Down Vote Posts

Sigma

Recommended Posts

Don't tell me it can't be done, because another forum I occasionally ask questions in, scienceforums.com, has a very similar layout to these forums, and it comes with the ability to down vote posts.

If you're worried about the feature being abused, then just limit the amount of down votes you can give per day, and/or make it to where you have to be a certain rank in order to give down votes. Scienceforums.com has this feature. Only senior members on the science forums can give down votes, and they can only give a small amount of down votes per day.

I wouldn't support this honestly. We're not a forum focused on the negative, if you don't like something then ignore it or explain why you dislike it in a post. (keeping in mind the rules)

Negative voting only causes people to feel shitty when they're post is down voted or whatnot.

No, this was recently implemented on another site I am active on and nothing good has come of it. A user from said site recently got a week long suspension for abusing that in order to troll another member just after a previous warning not to troll said member in another incident. Granted he would have found another way to troll him but the fact is that people will abuse that sort of thing as an offhand screw you to particular users they don't like. And there may also be situations where users won't abuse it but it will be misinterpreted as an offhand screw you.

This is possible, but it's not something that we're going to do. MLP Forums is based on community interaction and friendship, and being able to rate content like this just doesn't fit into that model. If you don't like something, there are more constructive ways to express that than a downvote. If you like something, you can brohoof a post and/or respond to it saying so.

Thank you for this suggestion, but it's not something we're going to add.
