I consider the most "intelligent" TV shows of all time to include both content and writing that makes an amazing cuisine for the brain. Shows may include The Simpsons, Breaking Bad, The Wire, and talk shows like the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. What TV shows do you consider the smartest?

 I can say for certain that Breaking Bad, and some episodes of The Simpsons, are brilliant.

 

The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, while having a typical common formula for most of the episodes, is very underrated, especially considering that it initially looks like a cheap cartoon, made with 3-dimensionally rendered CGI instead of more expressive animation. But it was severely underrated, and actually has aged much better than the Fairly OddParents.

Do documentaries and educational shows count because I got a pretty long list of them that I have watched and currently watch that would fit that category. Aside from those I would have to the earlier Simpsons episodes that have had a great deal of social commentary in them without the show taking itself too seriously for the most part. Certain episodes of South Park also come to mind, yes the show has some rather over the top toilet humor, general gross out humor and sexual humor but even a lot of those episodes can make a lot of really intelligent and thoughtful points even if they may often do it in ways that aren't exactly kid friendly.

 

Futurama contains a lot of references to physics and different scientific theories some of them only those who know this stuff quite well are going to be able to understand but some of them almost anyone like this one joke about technical support in the episode where Bender finds out he dosen't have a backup for example. Many episodes of Hey Arnold fit this category, they dealt with complex issues and some mature themes in ways that children could still understand.

 

There was a political talk show that once aired on Fox Business that was great called Freedom Watch but the host stepped on too many powerful toes and got his show cancelled which is a real shame. The show brought attention to a lot of very important issues that are either distorted or outright ignored by the mainstream media and sounded the alarm on the disturbing increase of unchecked government power.
