BronyPony 575 March 25, 2012 #1 Share March 25, 2012 Well, since I haven't seen many(or even any) science topics, I decided to do one inside the non-pony zone. The topic here is to find what the energy of a certain object or atom is. So, to make it simple, I will keep it to the smallest increment of particles: Find the energy for all types of atoms of the periodic table, list them in the answer.Hint: E = mc2 use atomic masses for this. TOMahwk 351 March 26, 2012 #13 Share March 26, 2012 SCIENCE!!!! Helium!!! E = mc^2 c= 299,792,458m/s m=4.002602 (atomic weight) 4.002602x(299,792,458)^2 = 89875517873681764 grams * m/s 89875517873681764g m/s / 1000kg = 89875517873681.764 kg * m/s I think. Maybe. Idk... I don't think that helium has a mass of 4 g. I think you confused it with 4 u. Where u is the Atomic Mass Unit. So if I take your calculations: mHelium = 4.00 u c = 3.00 * 109 1u = 1.66 * 10 -27 so we apply the formula. m = 4 * 1.66 * 10 -27 = 6.64 × 10-27 which means that: e = m * c2 e = 6.64 × 10-27 * 3.00 * 109 e = 1.99200 × 10-17 Which is a bit different ^^ Edited March 28, 2012 by Neikos is el Presidente I love you! <
