movies/tv Why is Adventure Time so popular? (Warning contains alot of bashing and ranting)

Surrealism and sheer randomness gets the older fans to enjoy. Most of the time I love all that is goofy but I never got myself to be so interested in it. My older brother sure seems to like it though for sure. I guess a majority of young adults and teens like this kind of stuff too?

Adventure time does a few things wrong to get many things right. The first thing is it plays with nostalgia. As a kid you either fantasize about being a brave knight rescuing princesses from bad guys or about space tech stuff (generally of course.) The most cliche thing about AT is the fact almost every episode involves a princess and/or the Ice king.(Here's a link regarding the subject:

) And the Ice King isn't really a villain. His lust for marriage and the fact he always pesters Finn and Jake, is due to his bad social skills. As a kid, you probably wouldn't notice this, but as an adult you see it clearly. Not only that, but he has an entire backstory explaining his life, how he got his powers, and connects him to another protagonist known as marceline.

 

In fact, lemmie go over the characters. All characters are, for the most part, unique in their own ways. No two charaters are alike, not even some of the side characters. Heck, almost every citizen in the Candy kingdom is different. Most characters have backstories that aren't explained in the show, like how marceline became a vampire(the good kind, not that twilight stuff.) Or Jake, a dog with crazy transforming abilities.

Adventure time is like MLP: it's a great view for young ones and is pretty decent for adults. It's a show where a kid can watch and a parent can enjoy it with them, and like MLP it overshot that and now it has a dedicated adult fanbase too. I'm not saying you should like it, not at all. I'm just saying that it holds a lot more than just another show, and it's rally good.

I have no idea, it's one of the stupidest shows I have ever watched. The creators just threw things into the TV to see what sticks out and what doesn't.

 

This is what Disney tried a long time ago, and it went terrible, because some of their worst old shows are AWFUL. Don't watch it, it's literally painful to the human brain.

I haven't watched it in a long time, but I recently saw what they did to the awesome villain that was the Lich King. The show died for me from that point.

 

One of the best CN villains for a long time, and they turned him into a Baby... What the crap?

Ah, well I apologize for sounding defensive. I agree that seems like a stupid twist, but I guess underneath everything Adventure Time is about that surreal, strange humor. I haven't seen the entire series yet, but I've enjoyed what I have seen.
