gaming Would anyone be interested in a Pokemon World Tournament... Tournament?

Alright, let me explain. You remember how in Black and White 2 there was this thing called the Pokemon World Tournament and you would challenge Gym Leaders from previous regions? Well, basically I was thinking we could do something like that, where everyone picks one gym leader or elite four member to base their team off of using Pokemon Showdown, and have a ladder tournament based on the pokemon that the gym leader could possibly have.

 

Because none of the leaders or E4 members in X and Y have 6 pokemon, they're off-limits. Assuming we could get enough members, we should be able to have a pretty big tournament. This mostly would be for fun, but if everyone agreed upon it, we could all chip in for a game on steam or something as a prize for the winner I guess. 

 

Here is the whole rules list:

 

1. You must select one gym leader/elite four member/champion to base your team off of.

 

2. Pokemon in the current Ubers lineup are banned completely. This only applies to the pokemon, you may still use the gym leader/E4 member/champion that has an uber pokemon, you are just not allowed to use said uber.

 

3. All pokemon must be level 100.

 

4. You can select your own items, moves, natures, EV/IV spreads, etc. for the pokemon, all that must remain consistent is that they are the proper species for the leader/E4 member/champion you are representing.

 

5. You may only have one of each species on a team, so no pulling a Lance and running 3 bloody Dragonites on the same team.

 

6. (Optional) Use the sprite for the proper Gym Leader/E4 member/Champion in battle, just to make it easier to remember who's whom.

 

7. Single battles only.

 

8. You may edit your team between rounds as long as it fits within the confines of the rules above.

 

9. Picking is done on a first-come, first-served basis, so choose quickly!

 

Alright, now for the picking of Leaders/E4 Members/Champions. They will be separated by region for sorting purposes only, if we do happen to get enough participants, they will be scrambled and paired up by RNG. First round sorting will be accommodated so you will not face a leader/E4/champion who's main type is super effective against you (so someone who is using a team based on Sidney won't face a person who's using a team based on Maylene for example).

Phew... That's a lot of names. Alright, sign-ups are open! If people don't exactly flood in like I know they won't, I'll probably have a cut-off date to sign up by, say, Halloween? So we have a good amount of time to set this up and if we fill up before then, terrific. I'll only join myself if we don't fill up by the cut-off date, in which case, I'll take whatever's left, unless we have an even number of participants, so I wouldn't screw up the ladder. Also, if you are looking for your possible pokemon, you can find them on Bulbapedia!

Ooh, this sounds interesting. I might join.

 

Just two questions, however. First off, could anyone join without any knowledge or some knowledge on competitive play? And secondly, what time would these battles start?

First off, no knowledge is needed, but it certainly helps. Second off, we'll do the actual scheduling around when we either fill up the roster (not likely), or halloween. The matches won't all take place at once, mostly due to time constraints and timezones being an issue, but hopefully we'll be able to work around it so it'll work out.
