Buck Testa 5,505 September 19, 2014 Share September 19, 2014 Of all the interpersonal relationships the mane six have with eachother, its the one featuring a farmpony and a fashionista that is the the most complex and deep. They are the perfect foils for one another and stem from a similar root at the core of their character. Both Rarity and Applejack tried to abandon their roots as fillies. Rarity for whatever reason was ashamed of her family and their lack of fashion sense and uncooth unsophisticated accents. It would only be natural that growing up she would of had a similar northern accent as well. She at somepoint trained herself to speak the way she does today, resembling Canterlots proper dialect. However as much as she found her family embarrassing she loved them dearly. It is from them she has her giving nature and from their way of life that she finds herself more comfortable in ponyville than with jerks like Blueblood. She feels this same reluctant fustrated yet endearing affection that she feels for Applejack. Applejack on the flip side tried to escape her past as well. However it was not from shame of her roots but the loss of her parents. Their sudden absense in her life and the role she was expected to play was to much for a young filly to handle so she ended up leaving her family and foal sister applebloom to live in the city and forget everything about where she came from. She too aquired a fake accent and that "Applejewel" facade she would later display to Rarity to show the error of her ways. However when she recieved her cutie mark and went back to accept her role as head of the Apple family she left the Jewel portion of her neglected, because it reminded her of when she felt weak and ran from her problems like she did when she did not win first place. Rarity reminded her of that dark time in her life when she was grieving and fleeing and it made her fustrated and arguementative with her. But on the same note Applejack understands Rarity in a way noponyelse does, because they are far more similar than anypony could guess. Its why two so seemingly different ponies can finish eachothers sentences and be so close. Or at least that is the way I see it. Fawkes The Phoenix 737 September 19, 2014 Share September 19, 2014 (edited) All of the mane 6 have an "opposite", but those "opposites" have a lot in common, for example, both Twilight and Rainbow Dash are the best in what they do, magic and flying, and they both got their Cutie Marks after a momentary power increase, they both can be arrogant sometimes, they both have "Daring Do" as their favorite book, etc. Now, about Pinkie and Fluttershy, when they were younger they both had crappy lifes until the Sonic Rainboom, they both have the most "exaggerated" personatilies of the mane 6, they're aren't able to find a golden mean in their emotions, so they have an alter ego. If FS is pissed, she's Flutterbitch, if Pinkie is sad, she's Pinkamena, and they're able to handle that now after a lot of character development. Oh yeah Appledash is supercute and I love several fanfics featuring them, however Rarity is on more of an equal footing with Applejack maturity wize. I ship both...sometimes at the same time :3 1 http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Billy%20G%20Gruff http://billyggruff.deviantart.com/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVpSXbUpDYTcaFHTPiPjYA
Orablanco Account 3,707 September 19, 2014 Share September 19, 2014 It's always really enjoyable when AJ and Rarity interact. I like that, despite being polar opposites, they really seem to get each other and how they think and react. I personally don't ship them, but great paring nonetheless. 1 Onwards to my DeviantArt page! Sig by the illustrious Kyoshi!
Jeric 46,852 September 20, 2014 Share September 20, 2014 Last night it was Sparity ... tonight it's Rarijack ... Mesa loven dis! While I don't personally ship them, I can see why so many do. They make a cute couple, and a dynamic one. The opposing yet symmetrical aspects of their characters makes for one of the most intriguing pairings in the show. One thing that I have noticed about AJ is that she had had the most meaningful impact on Rares. Her common sense wisdom helped bring two sisters together, and likely saved Rarity from herself. Buck, I love the connection you made with AJ and her parents BTW. Oh and the comics ... so much good Rarijack it isn't funny
ShyPie 164 September 20, 2014 Share September 20, 2014 I haven't actually decided on which ships to board yet, but can definitely see RariJack as making good sense. The two have lots of good episodes together and blend well with their opposites attract (but with similarities too). They maybe grated on each other early on (Look Before You Sleep), but because of that they've learned to appreciate the flaws in themselves as well as each other and it's brought them closer.

One of my favorite aspects of the series is that before Twilight, not all the characters were close friends. This organic trajectory of the first few episodes was a piece of enlightened writing when you think about it. How do you write a show about friendship lessons at the center when all the characters are already the best of friends? A lessor show would have had Applejack and Rarity as chums from go. I actually think this piece of art work sums up my personal views of this pairing (friendship or more).

You can see with all of them that they knew a bit about each other before, but it was Twilight who brought them all together. Rainbow Dash found Pinkie Pie to be really annoying, so much that she didn't want to be near her (Griffon the Brush Off) and she's been really frustrated with Fluttershy before too (Dragonshy). It's a testament to the show that it portrayed them that way, like any realistic friendship; there's things that annoy you about people at first, but over time you come to realise it's just part of who they are and it grows on you. sweetolebob18 728 July 27, 2015 Share July 27, 2015 I grew up in a REALLY small, rural town, so I might have some insight most people would not. The 1st thing to consider is "Did Rarity grow up in Ponyville?" If so, the AJ & Rarity went to the same school & knew each other as kids. Now, town kids & farm kids just don't mix a lot unless they are on the same sports team or whatever. (Ironically, if it wasn't for Diamond Tiara, the CMCs would probably not be friends) Plus, Rarity was in the theater/art clique + was clearly one of the glamour girls (IDK what you'd call them today. The ones really into clothes, make up, & boys). AJ was one of the Farm clique & was probably a jock. + AJ was probably older than Rarity & this matters a lot when you are kids. The episode Look Before You Sleep clearly shows they were not friends. The way Rarity reacted to Trenderhoof liking Apple Jack suggests that this might have happened before, that she lost a colt friend to AJ. (As a lady, she prefers not to speculate on what they see in that uncouth hillbilly) Just a thought. Oh & if it came to violence, if Rarity's magic wasn't developed enough to equalize things, AJ probably cleaned her clock (Stronger, + rodeo circuit ponies can be damn rough -she probably had some serious fights)
