Rarity painting WIP (Critique and help needed!)

Ok, so, I decided to do lineless art (or painting ) of Rarity. I also decided to change my style back to a cartoony look since Realistic Ponies weren't working out. So far I like it, her hairs a bit tuff to draw, but I like it. There's just one thing I am really struggling with: The Shading.

I don't want to blur it to much but then again I need to blur it but it looks super and it looks off and just AGH I stopped working on this because I really need help :( I like the drawing but the shading is super frustrating. Anyways here it is :)

The horn is a bit awkward. Too many lines and the shape is funny. Try and bring her hair all the way down past her neck. The ear is super 'dorable. But honestly a lineless piece of Rare is tough, she just has so many lines X.X

You're doing well! If you aren't already, you can always try drawing with an image of Rarity you like as a reference. You don't have to copy it, but it can give you an idea of what should look like what if you need it.

Essentially you've got it all started off. I paint traditionally using acrylic, watercolor, gouache and basically anything else my teacher has available. Digital is something I've never used seriously since I don't have a tablet.

It's okay to start off with line work, just use the color to actually make the whole painting and get rid off the linework as you go just to make sure you stay in the shape you want.

Shading is one of those tough things. Imagine where you want your light source coming from, look at reference pictures for light source to understand what different tones to use. Then just expirament. It's okay to mess up here, you always have the undo button, something digital has over traditional.

I believe most art softwares have this light shade feature in which you can enlarge your cursor to a massive size (like 2000 pixels) and all you have to do is click once or twice and the shading is done :3

Well there are different art styles (some don't even use shade). Personally I think this drawing is already neat on its own but if you want to shade it that's cool.
