Rhythmic Rhapsodist immediately knew the book was the real deal. He highly doubted that this 'Caliber' had actually received this book directly from Lord Discord, it was much more likely he had stolen it from it's rightful owners, the Agents of Discord. Still, it would be wise to check if his story was true...

 

"May I see this book, please? Perhaps I can read it!" Rhythmic Rhapsodist said. At the same time, he sent a series of secret signals to Caliber. Any Agent of Discord would recognize the signals, and send back the proper reply, but anypony else would only see them as normal body gestures.

"heh, your moving weird." caliber said, "so, heres the book, but i want it back. ok?" Caliber looked warily

 

'he dosent trust me. and for whatever reason he wishes me ill.' caliber thought, 'still, i better be on guard. he might try to steal the book.'

caliber touched his sword for comfort, as he looked at double r read the book.

Rhythmic Rhapsodist was now almost certain that Caliber was lying about receiving the book from Lord Discord, but he didn't dare harm Caliber until he was absolutely positive that his story wasn't true. But he would be taking the book; there was no doubt it was from Discord, and it belonged in the hooves of Lord Discord's faithful. 

 

"It's a truly fascinating book. Unfortunately, It would be quite impossible for me to read all of it here." Rhythmic Rhapsodist gave the book back to Caliber. "I would need time to read all of it, time I don't have at the moment. However, if you're interested, I could buy it from you. My client is very wealthy, I'm sure we could reach a price acceptable to everypony."

"i like bits, yes. but you understand that its a one-of-a-kind object, right? so ill want another one-of-a-kind object in return. got anything?" caliber said

 

'he wants the book. that much is true. i wonder what he'll give up' caliber thought

 

"oh and i really did get it from discord. why you dont believe me, ill never know..."

"No offence, but Lord Discord doesn't just hand out books to anypony who happens by. You can understand why I'm a bit skeptical, especially when you don't have any proof to back up your claim."

 

"In any event, I'm sorry to say that book isn't one of a kind. Lord Discord has authored many books, this being only one of about twenty. It is valuable, yes, but certainly not one of a kind."

"well, if the agents of discord already have nineteen copies, why do you want mine? oh and then something of equal value if you want the book" Caliber said.

 

'this is bad. LORD Discord? the only people i know who call him that are the agents of discord. and this fellow fit the bill perfectly.' caliber thought

 

"and also, can you prove im not lying? why dont we ask him? that is, if you can even reach him, which i doubt." caliber said, trying to provoke him

"Agents of Discord?" Rhythmic Rhapsodist asked, clearly trying not to laugh. "You've been reading too many horror stories. My interest in Lord Discord, and in your book, is purely academic. In any event, I of course don't have any rare antiquities on me at the moment, but as I have said before, my client is rich. I'm positive I can buy you something valuable in return for the book."

 

"Ask Lord Discord!?" Rhythmic Rhapsodist, now unable to hold back his laughter. "That's hilarious! What makes you think Lord Discord would want to talk to us? Anyway, without proof I'm afraid your claims are too outrageous to believe."

"oh, well. thats to bad. i dont trade with liers. the book, please." caliber put the book back in his bag. after putting back, he turned back to double r.

 

"when you decide to tell me the truth, ill still have the book." caliber said as he began to walk away

"Very well. If you change your mind, you know where to find me." Rhythmic Rhapsodist decided to just let Caliber walk away with the book. Getting it wasn't a pressing concern, it would find it's way into the hooves of Lord Discord's faithful eventually, it was only a matter of time. Besides, he could always just steal it later.

"Easy control?" Ennex asked, taking a seat in his large green-leather chair behind his desk, "You have my attention."  He leaded forward, pressing his front hoofs together in front of him.  "I take it you have a proposal for me?"

Taking a deep breath, and trying to contain her anger, Sakuya approached Caliber.  She was about to speak, when her eyes fell upon his horn.  For a moment, she saw a different unicorn, one from earlier that day.  Blinking to clear her vision, she finally spoke.

 

"Caliber, I need you to do me a favor," she said, and held out a small business card.  "Here is my home address.  Can you run there and pick up something for me?  There is a hidden key in the hallway outside my apartment, I wrote on there where it is."  She paused.  "Sitting next to my couch is a small, green chest.  Would you mind bringing it back here for me?"

It took a couple of minutes, but Ghost had managed to carefully open the window and leap into the apartment. Landing on the floor with catlike grace, he took a look around the room; rather spacious, with a neat bed and a dresser. A bedroom, he assumed. He took out the note Ravage had given him, along with his own pen, and wrote those two points down on the blank side of the paper. It may seem superfluous, but Ravage did want full details.

 

He put his ear to the closed door to listen for activity. No hoofsteps or voices, so it must have been clear. He carefully opened the door and poked his head out into the main room; a sofa spread along the wall in one corner, facing a small coffee table, with a large window overlooking the cityscape. A small kitchen area stood on the other side.

Ghost nodded, jotting down more bullet points. Two more doors, one opened, were along the walls. One went to a bathroom, and the other was locked tight.

 

Now this is intriguing, Ghost muttered internally, inspecting the closed door. Why have two unlocked doors, and leave one locked? And how did they lock this without a keyhole? Perhaps some kind of enchantment...

He jotted down these mental notes onto the paper, and continued to sneak around.

 

A small green chest by the sofa caught his eye. He trotted over to it to inspect it up close. He tried to flip the lid open, but of course it was locked.

He could take it for himself to inspect it closer, but Ravage did say to leave no evidence he was there, and to take it would prove exactly that somepony had broken in. He scowled with disappointment at the reminder, and instead made a note of the chest on the page.

"OK, ma'am!" caliber said, "ill be back shortly!" he looked at the card, said 'ohhh, clever' and dashed of to her house. when he got there, he walked in the front door, and looked face to face with somepony hes never seen before.

 

"hey." caliber said simply, as he walked over to the chest and picked it up. "you shouldn't be here" he turned to look at the intruder and unsheathed his sword and pointed it at him "if i were you, id run out of here, before i cut you, and your dumb little gettup to shreds." calibers voice had changed. it was dark, cold, and even 

 

caliber smiled "if you dont say something fast, i might just kill you right here and now."

Ghost was taken aback a little by the...somewhat abrupt entrance of the stallion.

The same one he'd seen earlier, at that.

 

"No need to resort to violence," he finally spoke, even and calm, as he tucked the paper and pen into his saddlebag and edged toward the bedroom, "I have everything I need, so take your little box and pretend you never saw me, and we'll both have one less problem to worry about."

"nah, im professional." caliber said, "and don't try sweet talking your way out of this.or running. answer truthfully, and i can tell if you lie. that wouldn't be smart. now, who are you?"

 

'huh. im getting the weirdest sense of deja vu.' caliber thought 'now, where could i have seen him?'

 

"well? who are you, and who set you up?" caliber demanded, "and give me that paper!"

Ghost tutted and rolled his eyes beneath the mask. The holier-than-thou hero act grows quite tiresome after a while.

 

"In that order," he began, backing up into the bedroom as Caliber's sword slowly advanced on him, "you can call me Ghost, I'm here on my own accord, and no, I think I'll hang onto this."

 

With that, the thief suddenly leapt backward, out the window, and used his wings to glide from the fire escape into the alley. He'd be long gone by the time this little swordmaster had even gotten to the ground.

'lier' caliber thought as he tried for half a second and teleported outside to the alleyway and gave chase. this 'ghost' character looked behind him and saw caliber running at him.

 

"unicorn, remember?!" caliber yelled and started catching up, "now, who set you up?!"

Ghost snorted as he saw the swordspony teleport behind him and give chase. He'd have a bit more fun with it if he wasn't so annoying.

 

Grabbing his briefcase between his teeth in passing, he hopped onto some trash cans and leapt over a chainlink fence into another alley. Once he landed he took a moment to tuck his briefcase under his wing.

 

"Persistent, aren't you?" He snarked through the fence, "Perhaps I might tell you, if you can keep up." With that, he turned and darted into a side-alley.

"grrrraahhh!!!" caliber cut the fence to ribbons and darted into the side alley "im gonna catch you! running is futile!" 

 

'whoa. why am i getting so hyped up over this thief?' caliber thought to himself 'meh. must be i just dont like liers. or maybe cause i haven't gotten to use my sword in so long...'

Ghost let out a soft chuckle as he heard the stallion's roaring. Good, he's getting nice and careless. Perhaps I can tire him out?

 

He leapt onto a stack of boxes, using the momentum to leap across the alley and onto a back door shelter. He then ran up the wall a bit and kicked off, using his wings to glide across to a windowsill, climbing up it and onto the roof.

caliber ran up and saw ghost on top of a building. 'ugh. that teleport spell took t much effort, i cant do it again...maybe...'  

 

caliber reared up and chucked his sword at ghost, who ducked just in time. caliber then began throwing a fit  "raaahh!!! give me back my sword!!" he roared

Ghost easily dodged the sword, and watched as it landed on the rooftop with a few loud clanks.

Hearing its owner's roaring up at him to return it, a smirk grew across his face. Perhaps this hothead was capable of bargaining?

 

He picked up the sword in his hooves and sauntered back to the roof's edge, flaunting the impressive blade.

"This is an impressive sword," he called down to the unicorn, taking a glance at it before looking back down, "perhaps you can calm down and we can work out a little exchange, hm?"

"careful you dont cut yourself..." caliber yelled back up.  'crap. my plan failed. oh, well, plan b.'

 

caliber sighed "alright, what do you want?" caliber said, "you want valuebles?"

 

right there in the street caliber ploped down and started shifting through his bag. "i got this" caliber said, waving his fire ruby around, " you, uh, want a golden apple?"

 

without ghost  noticing, he touched each item with his horn...

Ghost tilted his head at the items. They indeed looked rather valuable, and he wouldn't mind having them. Though maybe he can get one as a bonus.

 

"As tempting as that is," He began, digging the sword's tip into the roof and leaning his hooves and chin on the hilt, "what I really need is something less...shiny.

 

"You're here on behalf of the apartment owner, yes? All I want is you to keep quiet about seeing me there. Give me your word, and you'll get your sword back. You can even keep that little chest." His crow-like tendencies kicked in. "Though, I wouldn't mind taking that golden apple as well, if you can afford to part with it."

Malachi watch Sakuya fuming over Ennex for some reason. When he saw her he was going to run over and puller her into a hug. But when he saw the look on her face and the hard slap she gave Enne'x he stopped himself. He knew it was bet to give a mare her space when she was furious. After a minute or two he noticed Sakuya  giving Caliber some orders. When he took off he thought now would be a good time to talk to her.

 

He walked up behind her and spoke in a soft tone. "Welcome back, Kuya ." He said with a small smile and eyes filled with concern. While trying out shortening her name.

Upon hearing his voice, she turned, and suddenly looked away from him in shame.  Oh Celestia, I probably look full of Darkness to him now!  Just great!  She cast another angry look towards the doors her 'boss' had entered, before finally looking away, but still not meeting Malachi's eyes.  Finally, she found her voice.  "I don't want to talk about it..." she said, quietly...
