Creative works on older MLP generations?

The Brony community has produced a LOT of creative works (art, original music, remixes of pony music, fanfics, crafts, cosplay, ect) and...well....a damn good majority of all that is only given to MLP G4. I know past gens get a lot of criticism from many people who call themselves bronies (or not), but...I 'unno...am I the only one wanting to see people who got on board with MLP's "newer' generation start tackling stuff from the older MLP generation, as well? (it doesn't even have to be new gen fans, it could also be old gen fans as well) For instance, Gen 3's opening theme was THE BEST theme of MLP's show series to date (this only includes themes of the tv series, not EQG's opening theme, because admittedly, those have to be the best mlp....ish...themes, and i want to see one as awesome as EQG2s theme for future seasons or gens of MLP's tv series...but I digress) and seeing as how g3's theme was the best (music catchy as hell, and gives characterization and personality traits to the ponies so people can get to know what they're like, before the actual episode) would like to see creative remixes of it, or something, by people who have the tech and time to do so.

 

But that's just me. Anyone else think there's so much untapped potential for fan-creative works with the past MLP gens?

In one way yes, there are sure some unused material to work with in the old gen's. In another way I think most new gen fans has not seen very much of old generations and are not intressted in it. I have actully seen two episodes from gen 1, And I most say that I THINK they where teribble. So because of that I have harder to relate to gen 1. I think that whats most people of the fandom think.

 

But what the heck, Maybe it is some things I could work with(I'm doing pmv's on my sparetime) I will consider taking a look at what I could work with in they old gens.

yeah, maybe not a lot of new gen fans go back and watch the old stuff (just mock it, without having seen it- or parts of it), but surely there's some past gen fans who didn't get into MLP only with gen 4. And surely some of those fans can offer their creativity on the past gens? We just get a whopping amount of g4 MLP creative....everything, and don't see stuff from what preceded g4. Which- need I remind you, could never have paved the way for g4, if the earlier gens never existed. And I know some don't consider past gens as great as MLP g4, but I think it's also easy to forget the years in which they were created, with out of date methods and animation, compared to our current time. (though I don't think that excuses the low quality VA and audience condescending)

 

But I digress. Any oldschool MLP boards seem to be either slow or dead as a doornail, and EQD doesn't cover much old gen MLP creative works, if any, so I'm just wondering when a surge will start flowing for that area that has potential for such works, and if there's original (or newer) MLP fans who'd be willing to start doing creative stuff with the past gens and its characters, songs, ect.

Agreed. Tons of potential w/ past gens. In the near future I'm gonna try and write a series of fanfics retelling the stories from Generation 3,  as the foundations for some interesting characters were laid, just waiting to be expanded upon and delved into. 

 

I'm guessing that the reason most people haven't made many PMVs involving past gens is that it might be difficult to make anything cool w/ past designs or using that animation style and quality. Appearence wise, they aren't as aesthetically pleasing or as eye catching as the G4 ponies, and it is not likely that anyone is going to make vectors of them for custom animations. Also previous gen ponies lack the distinct personalities, quirks and moments that made it so easy for entire PMVs to be made on a single pony.  Firefly wasn't being a bold daredevil or hardworking tough pony. Sweet Heart didn't have a party cannon or an obsession for books. I guess a video could be made about how Minty had a thing for socks, but that's really about it. 

 

It would be a challenge to make an attention catching vid for prior gens that wasn't done ironically or for comedic purposes. But it could be done and would be quite a demonstration of skill on part of the creator. 

 

 

I do agree that remixes are a possibility and could make for interesting pieces of art. G3.5 may get ragged on (undeserving so. Newborn cuties is not part of G3.5. It might as well be counted as G3.6), but it does have the best opening song in the franchise and a remix would be welcome. The songs off of A Very Minty Christmas are some of the more original holiday music I've heard in a long time and would love to hear a remix of that too. Even the orchestral BGM for G3 is pretty good and would love to see it used again in the future. 

 

 

Although the good news is that there has been quite the revival of prior gen characters in the art community.

I want to make a PMV with the song "From the Sun" from G1, but I don't have the means of making it. (I mean G1 song and scenes from G4 for the video) 
 
I also created  g1 OC. He and ribbon have similar color schemes (Ribbon's coat is darker) , so one of my friends say they are related. Picture is in the spoilers. Ribbon is NOT an OC. She is canon.

Yes, yes! Practically the entirety of G3 is designed to invoke imagination and creativity inside the viewer, but the audience wanting to and capable of using that to the fullest just hasn't been there.

It should be focused on Princess Celestia. Try to make the scenes match the lyrics as best as you can rather than just the lips. If you can't, don't make it the opposite. It's just a suggestion. You do it however you wish to do it. You should really do it.

I do plan to make some art of the previous gens in the very near future I believe the previous gens get quite a lot of troubles, when I personally watch it myself I don't find it all half bad,  

 

I do think there DOES need to be more previous generation content across the web.

Apparently I have to like G3 to be a brony now.

 

But you're right. There is potential for fan art. Maybe someone could make G3 into something good by making the characters believable and memorable, giving them their own story arcs, adding some interesting lore, and making stories with higher stakes.

 

Oh wait, Lauren Faust already did that.

If you want to. I am not one to require credits. I just don't like it when people who use my stuff claim it as their own. So as long as you say you didn't come up with it on your own, I will be fine whether you put credits or not.

in attempt to get the creative works on past mlp gens rolling, I'm diving headfirst (not at all knowing wtf I'm doing; just trying to learn as I go) into music creating/ editing

after many attempts, and wall-hitting (countless hours of clipped/ mashed g1 acapella's wasted thanks to my not knowing that stupid soundation wasn't being able to export mp3 files with the bgm) I'm prolly just gonna see what's available with some other free online editing software.

Fans can make material inspired by those other shows if they want. I don't think many Friendship is Magic fans would necessarily care about it or want to buy them. I won't because I am not a fan of those other shows. But for those that are fans, it might be a worthwhile effort.
